I think the counterbalance to this, is that Oscar is without a doubt the smartest and most talented fighter that Mayweather will have faced to date.

Oscar, like Floyd and other boxing stars has a humungous ego, and that counts for a lot in these fights. Whereas other fighters may be content to continue trying the same old thing if they fall behind against Mayweather, Oscar is unlikely to want to go out with a loss.

In the fights he has lost, he has been in against guys with an edge in speed and strength like Mosley, or thought rightly in my opinion that he had the fight won. Let's face it, Oscar really only lost that first fight to Shane, although there were a couple of others which could have gone the other way.

Initially I was all for Floyd, and I didn't take too much notice of the win over Mayorga, but having seen Floyd looking anxious on the occasions that Baldomir did land, I wonder how he will react when the much quicker and smarter DLH lands on him.

Although his KO ratio has gone down over the years, when Oscar does have someone hurt, he has always been a good finisher. Only granite jawed fighters have generally lasted the distance with Oscar, even in his late career, or naturally bigger men. Floyd may be able to jink, and kid and slip slide away from other fighters, but I suspect that Oscar, even if he loses, will have Floyd in trouble at some point, and maybe even drop him.

Of course, this is all moot, the chances are this fight ain't gonna happen, because Floyd's ego will be too big to accept whatever cut Oscar offers him, even if it represents the biggest payday he is ever likely to receive.

Oscar is great at closing the gap, he doesn't waste any energy and doesn't throw looping shots. There's alot of thought to Oscar's work, very methodical and can still bang with the best.

Honestly, I still wouldn't rule out Oscar by late stoppage should they fight.
absolutely!! ive been saying all along its a 50-50 matchup & that oscar can definitely TKO floyd in later rounds!! his best display of power in his ENTIRE CAREER was the mayorga fight a few months ago...and that came after a 13-month layoff!! :TU: oscar has lost speed but has gained power, which sometimes happens in 30s!!
That's a terrible comparison for a Mayweather fight. Mayorga winds up and throws from a mile away, and that's all he does...he's gonna stand there, fight dirty, talk shit, and fire hooks and crosses, nothing else.

Trinidad already proved the guy is limited, and then proceeded to get his face boxed off by Wright. I wouldn't exactly say a 6th round KO proves anything new about Oscar, it just solidifies what we already thought about Mayorga.

I personally didn't think he'd KO Ricardo, but I also thought Ricardo would fight smarter than he did. I don't care how tough you are, you can sit there and exchange 3 or 4 for 1 and expect to be successful.

Mayweather is pretty much the opposite of Mayorga. Extremely good defensively, he's infront of you one second throwing lead rights, then he's out of there, and now you have to chase him down. Mayorga gets in front and stays there until you make him move.
come on, matty!! you spend more time at this site than anyone i know---so read the whole post & think this thing through!!! i wasnt comparing fighting mayorga to fighting floyd...i just pointed out that despite a 13-month layoff oscar had MORE power than EVER before---so the 12-month layoff (5/06 to 5/07) will not effect him any more than the long layoff did vs mayorga, so he will still have enuf power to hurt floyd BADLY if he can connect solidly!! i only brought up mayorga because oscar put more hurt on him than trinidad in LESS time...so that shows how much he has left!! :TU:

Or how little Mayorga had left, or how little Trinidad had left.

At Oscar's age, inactivity is a killer, so it's certainly not a given that he can come back and turn in a stellar performance. Maybe he can, maybe he cannot, we won't know until we see Oscar step through the ropes again.

mayorga had enuf left to dominate piccirillo in his previous bout after being stopped by trinidad, who is MUCH harder hitter than oscar!! 33 is not old when you have not taken much punishment & take care of your body...just ask hopkins!! my only worry about oscar is that he may not be quite as motivated as he was vs mayorga---whose inflammatory antics & press conference assaults has oscar as motivated as he has ever been!! then again, if oscar cannot muster the motivation, he probably WONT face PBF!! :TU:

I've said in other threads, and i still believe the whole fight comes down to Oscars jab. If he can land it often enough, it will keep Mayweather honest. I dont see him wanting to risk moving in to throw right hand leads, then move out again if he keeps getting speared by Oscars jab. Seeing that is the only way PBF can win, rather than standing in the pocket with Oscar, it could be a very hard night for Floyd.

I'd totally agree with that. If Oscar can continually catch Floyd at long range, and he is the taller man with the longer reach, then Floyd is going to have a hard time. It's hard to beat someone from long range if they are taller and have the bigger wingspan. Oscar isn't a fantastic jabber, but he's smart enough to know that is the tool to beat Floyd with.

It will be interesting to see if Floyd tries to take the fight inside with Oscar if this happens, Floyd is good at sitting in the pocket, but he's never done it against someone as good as Oscar, and we know that DLH can fight toe to toe if he needs to. He did so against a peak Mosley and held his own, and there's no comparison between Mosley and Mayweather's power. Shane was a big hitter back then and threw tonnes of shots at Oscar and only really managed to halt him in his tracks, not hurt him.

The possibility is though, that Oscar has a hard time landing the jab, especially coming off another layoff against a slick mofo like Floyd. If that is the case, then Oscar could be in difficulties against a sharper faster opponent.
