nicolay valuev could make a string of universum defenses of his wba bauble such as Samil Sam...krasinici...and virchis and nobody would moan about easy defences ...theyd all be decent fights too ?

sprott v gammer would be a classic war due to their stature

Skelton v sam could be the fight to propel matt into the big time and we gain revenge that way

I totally agree with you funso. The problem is, the promotors and sancitoning bodies and commissions of today arn't letting it happen.

Gammer-Sprott - We've had this conversation on the other thread. Makes sense - Sprott may have a 4-4 record or something of late, but he's been fighting nothing but European opponents, in Germany, the past couple of years. And the BBBofC elect him for an English title with the Fridge, whilst Danny Kipling is made Gammer's mandatory about a week after losing to Skelton and sinking through the canvas? fornicate off.

And SSS is being helped towards his final hurruh on crutches. He won't fight anyone with a pulse unless it's big money - ie. fight with Maskaev.

Say 16 fighters (OK, 8 then  ) with an open draw and they fight it out on one card over eight rounds per bout.

Then semis and a final - not necessarily on the same card.

Winner to get a shot at Gammer.
Good idea, but as you and i know it won't happen.
out of interest who would the eight be? I can identify 6 definates Skelton , Williams, Harrison, Sprott , Steeds .
It would be a good idea, but as you say it just would'nt happen.Especially with Skelton(gave up the British title)Williams(views himself above the belt these days)Harrison(always thought he was too good to mix it at British level!)and Sprott(he is fighting at a higher level, and earning more money on the euro scene)

These guys would see it as a step down, and in Sprott and Skeltons case,I would agree with them.
The prospective tournament would have to be between the likes of Mickey Steeds,Keith Long,Colin Kenna etc.....for a right to a shot at the British title.
Would like to see it happen.
Harrison got the right to fight Skelton for his title by losing twice in a row

Well, it is 99% certain we won't be having Gammer-Williams. Danny is talking about retirement, and I certainly can't see him fighting Gammer at all now, let alone January.

If we assume Skelton and harrison are not to be included, then Sprott is the obvious guy to replace Williams (arguably should have been the mandatory anyway.) Given that he takes fights in Germany on short notice, I'm sure it would not be a problem if he was offerred a fight with Gammer in January.

Alternatively, the bbbc may offer Gammer the chance of a voluntary whilst they try to sort out another mandatory, which leads us back to who would it be. Ellis and Reid surely should have another fight or two at least before they're considered.
