As said earlier, Fight Acamdey have been paying Hatton very handsomely indeed. To the extent that it's unlikely they could afford to pay Clinton on the same bill in a double world title fight, which is a great shame as it would be terrific exposure for Clinton, but they wouldn't stand to make any extra and would in fact effectively lose more money.
Warren remains the number one, but I think a bit of ground has been gained by Hennessy and Fight Academy lately, insofar as they are putting on big regular shows.
Hennessy generally have very well put together shows with often big undercards, and some nice competitive fights. They don't have as many established big name fighters, but with Hatton gone, Calzaghe near the end of his reign, and Harrison looking like his career could be truncated, Sports Network are pinning a lot of their hopes on the shoulders of a young and let's face it, relatively untested fighter, whose career may or may not turn out to be a big deal.
Fight Academy, whilst not earning much from Hatton, are raising their profile, and no doubt forging good links in the USA at the same time, which will be invaluable if they want to be a major player. However, they are going to need to turn a profit if they are going to stay in the game.
Personally, I think the emergence of these two promotional outfits, along with Matchrooms sporadic forays, the reappearance of Frank Maloney as a promotional force, are good for boxing, not to mention the Sanigar's in Bristol, and the likes of Konkrete.
Big Regular Shows fromFight Academy? Have a missed something? When were they exactly? I think you will find that Hatton pays FA not the other way around hence the poor shows supporting him. Not many crumbs left after Ricky has eaten his Pie!

I just wish the smaller UK promoters would work together a bit more closely. Without National TV they will always be a country mile behind allegedly in terms of "size" and the likihood of BBC going back into boxing and ITV looking at other promoters is remote.
I still maintain a small UK boxing channel is the way forward to get the fighters known. The stuff the M channel is showing is good, it was nice to see highlights of Hatton vs Bosworth - although the presenter was poor (although Camera work was MUCH better than Five).
They would need to work together to organise a schedule and funding, but they need to if they are going to build stars.
Derek Williams, Mick Helliet, Koncreate Promotions, VIP Promotions, Paul Boyce etc. There some good cards that need coverage.

Spud, you really are an infantile degenerate. The reason Fight Academy haven't got any dates is because SKY Sports can't stand dealing with them and only suffer them when Hatton is involved.
Also, answer how come Matthew Hatton only claims he received £1,500 for a fight agsinst Bosworth over ten round and and in an eliminator. He earned far more than that with Warren so either he's lied to the Board (Tut Tut) or he's got the shitty end of the stick from FA.
Finally, whose arsehole are you licking these day's whilst your colleagues are fighting for Queen and Country in Iraq? To think the general public pay the wages for a coward like you.

Derek Williams seems to be putting together alot of shows at the moment, maybe he can get CH5 interested in doing a live show, a Thurday night wouldn't clash with to many other things sportwise on TV.

johnswan1 wrote:Just wondering what people think about the current promoters / managers in the UK and how many of them are capable of making a fighter into a star.
At the moment I think it's fair to say that there are only two major stars of British boxing - Hatton and Calzaghe, both made by Sports Network. Also on Warrens books are a number of headliners such as Arthur, Khan and Scott Harrison.
In comparison, Witter despite being WBC champion struggles to attract fans and Froch has been fighting in York Hall events that have not been sold out. Is this down to the fighter or his management?
What other managers / promoters are there out there capable of making a fighter into a major star and when was the last time this happened for a British fighter when Warren was not involved?
Also, out of interest, can anybody tell me who promoted Benn, Eubank & Watson?
Is there room in the UK for another major promoter and are any of the others capable of competing with Sports Network? Have there been any new players recently in the UK promotion business who are making an impression?
Getting back to my original questions, can anybody answer those that were not answered in this thread already?
Also, I thought Friday was another example of how Warren seems to be the only promoter capable of turning a fighter into a star. The Nottingham arena I heard had only 4,500 in attendance on Friday night, despite having a capacity of 7,000. Hennessey must have been disappointed with the gate.

tut tut spudly..
you dont learn do you, now you are on here blowing your 'i was in the army for 24 years' bugle. how many years of that was 'boy service" (which is akin to the scouts !!)
kindly tell the guys in here exactly where you went when in the forces, what you achieved while in the forces, and what dizzy heights you climbed to while in the forces.....and of course im not referring to your 'leave pass filling in' trip to kosovo about 10 years after slobodan left the building.
now back to boxing.....
Fight Academy have hatton as their main weapon, the agreement between hatton and hobson seems to be based on friendship..which is great
but....
the wages hatton seems to be getting paid (by FA to keep him on board) seem to be draining FA as a promotional outfit. i heard from a good source that a major reason that robert waterman got off the train was because of the amount of dough that Hobson had agreed to and was paying hatton.
The FA undercards are a major disappointment to be honest. its no good claiming to put on massive main events for a real world title and then fill the undercard with half a dozen poor bouts. im entitled to have this opinion because i can !! and ive had to sit through it. yes the prestige of the main events is decent...but the back up is pants.

24 years and the most deadly weapon you ever picked up was a fornicating biro. However, looking at you you may have been used for some kind of nuclear experiment, the sort that deforms your head, but other than that you were sat safely behind the desk paying the wages of real men.
I bet you even played with Action Man when you were a kid until you discovered your own gripping hands. That Russian Spy still looked in better nick than you after he was poisoned.
Face it Spud you know fornicate all about Boxing and even less about combat so go back to the womb and finish gestating you feotus faced freak.

Even Dennis Hobson said he is a "sad loner" who he just "felt sorry for".
His role, banging out Hatton comps for cash. He even sold me two.

Didn't he once work for 'Tefal'. To be fair he could'nt fight in the army simply because the defence budget would have gone on trying to make a helmet to fit him
