An increase in the number of prisons, means more people being given custodial sentences not more crimes being committed. Many of those in prison will obviously have been in there for some time, it's not like they all got slung in jail yesterday is it?
hahaha!... you should be a politician mate, 8) ...its the old chicken and egg problem... if there are so few chickens then why are we being overrun by eggs??!. Fact is that if crime was down then fewer people would be going to jail... as it is the jails are overflowing and courts are having to give out softer and non-custodial sentences due to the shortage of prison places. The NHS is a viable comparison, the government keeps telling us how good a job theyre doing with it yet its falling apart!.... I dont believe a word Blair or his government says!....
That's not correct at all, if more people are being put in jail, then crime could still fall, it's to do with how many custodial sentences are handed out. Under Jack straw the prison population has soared as more people have been handed custodial sentences.
I don't know much about law and order, but I do believe that if I had have been the magistrate in this particular case then I think I would have laughed my arse off. Well surely they're not being sent to prison for nothing??... most of the people given custodial sentences are repeat offenders, maybe if many of the prisons werent so soft with video games sky TV etc people would be more wary about being sent inside, as it is many of these people have it better inside than out. The amount of prisoners in jails today exposes the lie that crime is going down, to say otherwise defies logic... if the crime rate is so low then why is the numbers of jailed criminals at the highest level ever?... and this isnt taking into account those offenders on asboes, community service, probation, not to mention those who havent been caught!...
