Was impressed with Saeed, nice little boxer, Gavin and Smith were a little dissapointing given their standings.
There were a lot of scrappy matchsups, and the officiating was pretty poor I thought, constantly breaking the action up, and bizzarrely in one bout someone who was being thrown around like a rag doll got penalised!
There was a bit of a dust up on the balcony with some young scallys giving some middle aged geezer a right kicking which must have distracted me from the Price standing 8, because I didn't see it.

Watched this on the ABA website but missed the first two fights. The difference between the amateur and pro game appears to me to be getting wider.
The amateurs seem to condition boxers into being a bit negative IMO. It is as though the boxers are too apprehensive about going forward in case they get picked off. There are a lot of strange guards, awkward stances and boxers looking to draw an opponent and countering both on the back foot and front foot. If a boxer falls short or misses with a punch they immediately go into a clinch in case their opponent catches them with a clean shot. All of this is due to the point scoring system, I believe. Afterall the judges are not going to catch all the shots in a multi-punch exchange. The trainers realise this and therefore tell their boxers to counter and move or clinch.
That ref with the moustache was an absolute joke. He was breaking up the action over the most minor of infringements. I also noticed that boxers were getting warned for spinning their opponents on the ropes. I didn't know that was against amateur rules nowadays.
Anyway enough moaning there were a few good performances I thought.
Gavin looked good fast feet and hands but fell short with his punches a bit. Impressed with Selkirk. Groves and Mbwakongo did very well in the first Senior seasons. Bradley Saunders looks like a good prospect. Didn't see Saeed.

Buncey and David Haye are in the studio with John Inverdale. Priceless moment when they cut to Khan and Hatton, who were "rehearsing" for the FA Cup draw later today on BBC1. Good thing too - as soon as they cut to Hatton, he picks a number out of the bag and holds it...upside down.
