Universum winning the purse bid so close to Calzaghe-Magee was a smart move. I'll bet they thought he was going to vacate / at best, they knew they had a major event to stage.

Pissed me off though. It was my first Friday night with Sky, and I was hoping to see a decent Calzaghe fight!

Very good fight, IMO. Good to see a young champion in with some power/youth. These are the kind of fights in which he can really grow.

Also, he's a top 10 opponent, so it feels like a real world title fight.

(Then again...oops,just looked in Boxing Monthly and Manfredo Jr is top 10, fair enough.)

Andrade's problem is a lack of fights. He seems in the Israel Vazquez, Castillo, Margarito mould - in the sense that he basically learned to fight in the pros.

I think Andrade can develop well with McCullough, and his technique is already advancing beyond Margarito's.

I think Andrade abit too open and squares up abit too much for Kessler not to blast his jaw off.

I also think he stands over his opponents abit throwing pitter pat punches to load up to a big punch which I think is dangerous.

I think Kessler will do the business on thise guy.

I do think that we're sometimes harsh to the punchers without pure boxing skills. I mean, Lacy was still a good fighter, nasty enough to intimidate most, with some exciting wins and was improving. I do think that Andrade is also a good, dangerous fighter. If he gets outboxed by Kessler - which he might well - it doesn't mean he's no good.

When you look at the absense of punchers on a lot of elite fighters' records, then that is a way to appreciate Calzaghe-Lacy & Kessler-Andrade. We can go back over the decades and junk Tito Trinidad, Simon Brown and Julian Jackson, but they gave us some memorable moments despite having been schooled more than once.

Does Calzaghe struggle more with boxers? Fvck yes. Is Lacy as good as Kessler? Hell no. But it does mean something to beat tough cookies with a punch, another important overlooked one is Mundine v Echols, which was a superb bit of boxing from 'The Man.'

Looks a good one, and by the sounds of it Kessler better keep his guard up, not often you see a decent Mexican SM...

Naturaly those muppets at Sky have given it a miss.

I think Kessler will be well pleased he has the home advantage here - going over to fight on a golden boy show would have given a huge advantage to the Mex.

Plus HBO televises, so everyones happy.

He just changed trainer to a "yes man". His old trainer could keep his ego down. This defeat could actually benefit him in the long run.

Wow, thats some victory from Kessler. I was actually thinking this could be very interesting and like Froch vs Tatesvyan last night - actually thought an upset might happen.

I can see what your saying regarding Zam Zam, Freiheit - but still I suppose this will ask serious questions on his resistance and doubts now must arise if he will go further.

Never been particularly impressed by Zam Zam although getting sparked in a round was a surprise. Now we know why he was being moved in baby steps.

Good win for Kessler, seems he is a man at the peak of his powers. Let's hope we see him in meaningful matches from now on to take advantage of this rich vein of form.
