Maybe lesser fighters but certainly more exciting and marketable. I personally have nothing aginst witter but he doesnt exactly get you excited and my old man watched his fight against corley with me and left after three rounds and i quote "this is boring as fornicate".

Some questions need to be answered regarding this, so I seea 50/50.

Hatton Is troubled by Southpaw counter punchers and has been even troubled by Southpaw counter punchers who were only British/Euro level while Witter's a world class one.

As for Witter he has the skills to out box Hatton, but Hatton won't wait and see what Witter will throw next like most Witter victims.

Callazo showed Hatton can't just walk through punches(just like Calzaghe showed with Lacy muaahahaha) though regardless of power, but Hatton still beat Callazo with a lack of defence but was lucky.

Witter was very negative in his fights with Ndou, Kotelnik, Lynes and even in his accomplished psych job on Corley...Witter is good but he can't help turning people off.

If he had managed to continue his long KO streak at world class, there would be more than just message board demand for a fight.

That said, it's hard to call someone a duck when they're facing a wrecking ball on the weekend, followed by Castillo, isn't it?
Urango is a wrecking ball now? Come on he's average. Have you seen his fight with Ben Rabah?

The only southpaw that's Brit/Euro level that has troubled Rick is Magee - who else are you referring to?

Urango isn't as cute as Collazo or Magee either (who both gave Rick trouble with the lead right hook), he's much more predictable from what i've seen of him.

You can see the influence of Stacy Mckinley on his style - kinda Tysonesque - but Urango doesn't have the speed or footwork to carry it off.

Thaxton cut him and put him In a war.

I know Urango Isn't as cute, he's mostly muscle.

The Thaxton fight wasn't remotely close and he didn't have success with the same punch over and over like Collazo did.

The cut has pedalled the myth that it was a war when in reality Rick really boxed his ears off.

Some such as myself would argue Witters better than Collazo and has a more deadly right hook which Hatton ate all night

Witter kos hatton in a war after Hatton eats too many southpaw right hooks. I feel Ricky will be open to Witters big counters all night.

Hatton's latest Nuts Interview.

Hatton: "I'll knock the living daylights out of Urango.

Nuts: Hi Ricky, your fighting In Las Vegas this weekend - how will you control yourself with all the free beer In the Casino's?

Ricky: Nothing can match the buzz of having your hand raised as a world champion, so the boxing always comes first always. But I'm sure the bars will get a good hammering after I win those two world titles!

Nuts: A lot of people will be staying up late to watch the fight - any tips on a pre fight routine?

Ricky:Don't get too pissed! The fight's around that time when people are getting taxis home from the club, so take It easy, then get the beers and espressos In at home. Try and keep awake. Trust me, I'll be as quick as I can.

Nuts: What do you know about your opponent Juan Urango?

Ricky: For probably the first time In my career, I'm fighting someone shorter than me. He's stocky, he's muscular. He's the mirror image of Mike Tyson- they call him Iron Twin and he models his style on Tyson, like I model mine on Roberto Duran. It's going to be explosive.

Nuts: Do you have to hate him to beat him and how do you build up that hatred?

Ricky: Yes, of course. You respect your opponent but you have to hate him for at least those 12 rounds. He's trying to stop my family, my son, having a better life. If I win, I go on to bigger fights that are more beneficial financially.

Nuts: Do you get satisfaction from beating the crap out of someone?

Ricky: Yeah! I want my stock to go up, particularly In the America. I want to knock the living daylights out of him.

Nuts: Urango sounds a bit like Orangutan, doesn't it?

Ricky: Orangutans are known for their strength, and that's the main partof Urango's game. He's got muscles In his spit. I supposed It'll be like fighting an Orangutan, but as long as he doesn't swing round my fornicating head I'll be alright.

Nuts: Joe Calzaghe's fighting Peter Manfredo from The Contender soon. Which reality TV star would you most like to fight?

Ricky: That guy Pete who won Big Brother. It winds me up everytime I pick up the paper and no matter where he Is, he's always pulling a daft fornicating stupid face. Everytime I see that face I think fornicating hell, turn It In.

Nuts: You move around the ring pretty well. Are you a good dancer?

Ricky: I like to think I'm pretty good, but I'm probably the only one who thinks that. I won't go near the dancefloor sober, though.

Nuts: Heard any good jokes lately? I tried to nick a joint beef from Asda. A security man ran after me and said, "Oi! What are you doing with that?" I said, "spuds, peas and gravy, you nosey bastard!"

Hatton is ducking Witter. Always has and seemingly always will.

Hatton is shortchanging his fans. 1 fight last year and being out of condition for the best part of 6 months between that and this next fight. His career is being shortened. What about the people who have lined his pockets over the years? They want to see him fight 3+ times a year against big names not a fight every 6 months against Collazo, Urango.... and giving himself the best chance possible in the big fights by keeping himself in some sort of shape between fights.

SORT IT OUT!

I agree with your post, but Hatton has said In Boxing Monthly being at the level he's at he doesn't want more than 2 fights a year, so was Ok with this inactivity!

He's using the Tszyu win so not many give him a hard time.

Seriously, Hatton clearly doesn't fancy chasing Witter around eating counters all night. This has been going on for years. Excuse after excuse. First Witter brought nothing to the table Hatton said he would have to win a belt first. Witter now has a belt and its more excuses.

Lets hope Castillo makes 140 at this weeks weigh in there have been rumours to the contrary. Hatton needs the Castillo fight next.

Why hasn't he chose to fight Witter in the more than ample opportunities he's had. Why won't he fight the best his home country has to offer? Witter-Hatton has been the natural fight to make for UK fans for what seems like eons and there is only one reason it hasn't happened...Ricky

How many assorted excuses has Hatton used to avoid the fight.

I pick Witter by fairly early KO (3-5) if the fight were to ever happen.....maybe Ricky on points if he can ride the early storm and swamp Junior late on. If I had my hand forced, I'd go for a Witter KO4

Yeah but that's the one fight that might not tell us how he'll look vs Hatton. I just got his fight with Arnaoutis on DVD - an absolute war! The guy is massive in his torso, throws some solid hooks and is a good bully. However, he appears to tire late in a drag out brawl, hence why he only got the draw.

Physically, he's a wrecking ball, IMO. I don't think he'll be a pushover. The Ben Rabah fight could give Ricky a false sense of security.

These Witter counters are a bit like boxing itself, full of mystique and promise but they rarely deliver, especially now the ante has been upped. When did he last throw counters all night?

Witter has brought a belt to the table but, solely down to himself, is in the position that the belt now means next to nothing, it was a vacant title picked-up in one of the poorest fights I can recall watching.

I would have loved to have seen Hatton-Witter, five years or so ago yet Warren did not make the fight and was 100% right not to make it as only one party brought anything to it.

When you think about the fight taking place next year you only need to read this thread for it to leave you cold. A reflexively fading pot-shotter who never puts in a full round let alone a fully paced fight taking on a guy who is said to be on the wane, lives like a pig and was lucky to get his stripes anyway. Sounds like a doozy to me. Reading this strand makes you wonder why the big anticipation :TU:

Witter needs to produce the goods this weekend, more so than at any point in his career. This guy will probably come at him so no excuses, if there are some big shots followed by a long fade to the final bell the Witter highlight reel, which he needs to market this fight, will consist of him talking about Hatton.

As for Castillo, we'll see what happens when they step on the scales, this time last week Hatton was having weight problems all because a shot was taken of him looking thin and pasty, which is odd when you consider he went from a rainy shit-hole, via a long-haul flight straight back into more intensive training!
Keep making excuses for Hatton, he has ducked Witter for years. He had it written into a contract at one point now he'll never fight him.

Hatton will never fight Witter.

Why the big anticipation? Its been the most anticipated UK fight for 5-6 years and people want to see it.

I like Hatton, but I wish he'd just stop making excuses and say he just doesn't want to fight him. All the claptrap thats come from Hatton and co over the last 5-6 years is ridiculous.

Why the anticipation  We have 2 bonifide World Champions in the same weight division with very contrasting styles and there's plenty of bad blood between the 2, I can't understand how any British Boxing fan can justify defending Hattons stance on the Witter fight.

In your post you run Witter down saying Hatton was the only one bringing anything to the table, that argument doesn't stand up IMO there are numerous opponents that Ricky has fought who didn't bring anything to the table. Beating Junior Witter makes Hatton a massive star over here, beating Urango does nothing

Posted: 17 Jan 2007, 11:27
by Autobarn
Definitely - people say Urango is nothing, but the fact is HBO want to put on fights that look to be good & it pays to put a pair of young bulls together.

Who knows, maybe Urango brings something extra, for his big chance. Certainly a dangerous bloke that you're nott o put a foot wrong against. IMO Hatton-Maussa & Collazo were nail biters, because something goes wrong each time (cut, shaken up) so the rollercoaster ride may carry on.

I don't think Witter or MBaye will ever get approval. But I'm sure Torres, Arnaoutis, Harris (should he go the Hatton, rather than Witter route) will fit the bill.

Should Ricky's itinerary go as planned (to beat Urango & Castillo), of course.
