stanjames are : 5/6 Johanneson v 5/6 Burns How on earth can this be a pick em match??? i know i said earlier that i might back burns, but i thought he'd be about 5/2, i've backed the leeds man at 5/6 now, most likely result is Johanneson KO by body shots early.

Looks an excellent fight this, didn't realise it was tomorrow - Burns looked the real McCoy against Arthur, an excellent boxer and great heart too.

But they're matching him tough lately, that's for sure. He might even pull off the upset....

I was a bit alarmed at how many right hands Johannson took against Femi as well, if he's tightened up his guard he will win tomorrow night, if he comes in thinking he can walk through Burns then he will have problems.

I'm still going for Johannson to win in the 8-9 rounds

Don'tthink so.

Should be a good fight this, pulling for Johanneson to win late after breaking Burns down and maybe losing the first few rounds, but Burns size should cause problems.

Cheers lvlarc, just wondering because I've not got Sky and trying to stay of the sauce at the moment so not sure if I've got the will power for the pub.

Johansson won a unanimous decision, Burns down 3 times he won nearly every round. Very one sided. The pace Carl set was out of this world, great performance.

Thanks nick, lucky I hedged my bets on this one :TU:

Johanneson won a wide points win in a good fight, floored Burns three time and kept pressuring, pressuring, pressuring. Burns couldn't do a thing with him in the begining and when it came to "his territory" he was obviously tired and in some pain.

He did tire a bit towards the end, but understandable - you can tick stamina in the box. No problems there. Burns was a credit, hard as nails. Excellent fight.

I don't know if it was just exhaustion or a lack of experience but I thought Burns just momentarily hurt Johanneson on a few occasions but never seemed to properly follow it up.

Such a shame that Alex Arthur has relinquished the European belt. What a fight Arthur-Johanneson could be. Certainly better than the fight that was announced for Arthur this week. I tipped Johanneson to win, but I didn't think it'd be that impressive, he really was excellent, especially as he'd never gone the 12 round distance before. I was reminded of Ricky Hatton on his way up tonight, Johanneson was just relentless.

Credit to Burns as well though. It's such a shame he doesn't have a punch, because he does so many things well, and he's obviously incredibly fit, not to mention his heart. To finish the way he did, after the punishment he took was wonderful to see.

Once again the Lonsdale belt was done proud. Much like Meager-Thaxton last year, it was a bit one-sided, but you could see how much it meant to both guys, as opposed to a crappy WBU blowout.

Good post States - I now want to really see Arthur vs Johanneson and NOW. I know I have said lets wait a fight or so for other biggies (Hatton vs Witter, Enzo v Haye) but this is different, cannot see either beating the World champions (unless Klassen does become available) - so right now is the fight at its biggest financially.

And now I do want to see it. I think question marks remain of Johanneson's chin but if he does pass that box then he could outwork him. Somehow though, I think Arthur will hit too hard - but what a fight between two SOLID European level opperaters.

Arthur V Johannesson or Johannesson Vs Mitchell would make a great fight.

I'd favour Arthur but the Mitchell one would be a 50/50.

I agree with you on Arthur-Johanneson. But I really think that Johanneson would beat Mitchell with something to spare. That fight is a long way from 50-50 in my eyes.

True, Mitchell does get hit too easy but he hits hard and Is strong so I think that It might be a 50/50.

Johannesson would batter Murray though, he's like Mitchell, gets hit too easy and bruised In stay busy fights.

Erm, what are you trying to say here Max? You've confused me.

As for Johanneson-Mitchell: Carl lands too often and too hard. Mitchell hasn't fought at anything like British title level. Like Femi and Burns, he's got some skills. He just doesn't have the seasoning to live with Johanneson.

Burns wasn't fit enough. Every time he got on the front foot he backed Johanneson up but couldn't sustain it for anymore than threes and fours. Because he was running on empty (and taking body shots) from very early on, he got dragged into a close quarters fight.

Hmm, I can see your point Ian. But having praised Burns's stamina just a few posts ago, I'm duty bound to disagree. Do you not think his biggest problem was lacking the punch, and the strength to keep Johanneson off? I think the fitness was there, but Burns just cannot back his opponent up when he has to.

I don't think you necessarily have to back your opponent up, states. Get the hell out of the way instead.

The lad has heart but honestly, every time he (briefly) got on his toes and jabbed or put a few punches together, Carl stopped ploughing forward. Don't kid yourself that he was some relentless force in there.

In my opinion, Burns just wasn't fit enough to carry this through. He connected many times and when he got through, it was HIM who was looking for the clinch and not Carl. He was tired. Every time he returned to his corner, he slumped as if he was all in.

We've all seen fighters with no punch jab and get out of the way and box their way to a decision against a stronger opponent. If you use your legs, you don't need bull-like strength but he didn't have the fitness. I thought the lad underperformed...or maybe I just thought he was better than he actually is.

Most people who I know felt Burns would win, and so did I. We were wrong and I don't think it was because Carl was better than we thought.

This shows just how crap Earl is. I think Earl is just being kept as foder for Khan. FW wont let any of his boxers near Jo will he?

Johanneson did well, and he should be the natural opponent for Arthur, who FELL SHORT last time he was in a 50-50 British fight.

Impressive workrate and Carl did some good things inside, such as the sidesteps but I did feel his left hook from the outside was poor. Also, he had to use up huge amounts of energy to get a convincing win, and did look vulnerable when Burns returned fire. So it has to be questioned whether he can go beyond British-EBU level.
