Well mate, did you see the newspapers this morning, in the scottish ones at least. Maloney says if Nuumbembe gets beaten from Anderson he will be on the plane back home "cause he's been beaten twice before, and another defeat would spell disaster for him" Basically says he wouldn't promote him cause there is nothing he could do with him cause of his losses. So good to be rightWales wrote:How was it a big mistake? Would he have got this shot any quicker had he won?Top Dog wrote:I understand that, but looking at the bigger picture it was a big mistake. If he really has big title aspirations, he shouldnt fight unless he is ready cause you just get moved down the ladder again.Wales wrote: Yeah, of course, because fighters like Ali have plenty of money to put food on their tables and pay their bills dont they. Ali took the fights because the man has to make a living. He isnt getting paid thousands and thousands to fight the likes of Ernie Smith, and he doesnt have family or parents in this country to house him and / or support him. Its all very well calling him a "dafty" for taking the fight, but im sure he'd rather be a dafty with a roof over his head and food on his table, than a dafty with nothing.
It hasnt hindered his career thus far, and highlights the current British culture of keeping a fighters record intact, or as intact as possible. Its feasible Ali learnt something from the fight, or has become more motivated as a result by not falling into the "I'll beat anyone category".
It didnt move him down the commonwealth ladder, and his managment team would be the biggest dafties of all if they thought Ali was good enough for proper World honours. And he isnt eligable to fight for either the british or euro titles.

Maloney warns Anderson rival
By Hugh Keevins
ALI NUUMBEMBE'S promoter Frank Maloney has warned him to either take Kevin Anderson's Commonwealth title or pick up a-one-way ticket back to Africa.
Nuumbembe was born in Namibia but has recently based himself in Manchester for the sake of his career.
But Maloney doesn't believe Ali will have a career to look after unless he can relieve Anderson of the welterweight title in front of his home-town crowd at the Kirkcaldy Ice Arena on Friday night.
And last night he threatened him with repatriation unless he digs out the performance of his life in Fife.
Maloney was last week wrongly accused of playing mind games with Scotland's Ricky Burns before his super-featherweight clash with Carl Johanneson.
Burns lost the British title to the Englishman on points and Maloney said: "It was a bit naughty of Alex Morrison, Ricky's manager, to say I had sent his fighter a second-class rail ticket to Leeds. He knows I provided first-class travel even though I didn't need to under the rules.
"But this time I'm promising Nuumbembe a-one-way ticket to the end of the line unless he can beat Anderson."
There was a time, during the period when he managed world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis, when Maloney was famous for wearing a Union Jack suit at ringside.
Then Frank became an adopted Scot by taking Scott Harrison to the pinnacle of his career as world featherweight champion.
But he's gone back to being an unashamed Jock-basher.
Maloney added: "Ricky took a merciless beating over 12 rounds from Johanneson last Friday.
"That certainly stopped the Scots from gloating about what they were going to do.
"It was a one-sided fight and who knows where Ricky goes from here?
"I want to see Anderson taking a beating to complete a double over the Scots, even if north of the border used to be my adopted home."
Rows involving the Auld Enemy will mean nothing to Nuumbembe but Ali will understand what 'last chance' means once Maloney has explained the facts to him.
He said: "There's nothing more I can do for Ali if he loses this one but I think he's got a chance of winning it if he survives the first three rounds.
"I've been involved with him for a year but a setback in Kircaldy would bring us to the end of the road."
Nuumbembe is the first part of what Anderson hopes will be a memorable treble for him in 2007.
He is hoping to retain his Commonwealth title and then defend his British championship against Eamon Magee before making himself the No.1 contender for the European crown.

Typical Maloney headline
. Anything to turn heads in the right direction...which is, of course, his job.
As long as a fighter doesn't get "ruined" following a devastating loss, there's nearly always a way back.
I was up in my attic sorting something out when I found some of my old Boxing News dating back to when Ryan Rhodes lost to Lee Blundell and the write up clearly indicated that Rhodes career was over, period. It might have taken Rhodes a lot time and effort to get back to a good level, but his performance against Lockett in their first bout was proof in itself that it ain't over until it's over.
Back to Anderson-Nuumbembe, great match, almost 50-50, but on current form Kevin has to be the pick, but no way should Anderson be thinking of Eamon Magee or EBU titles until Ali has been taken care of. Nuumbembe is too dangerous to be taken lightly.

Very droll 8)
He's facing the highly rated Aussie guy, right?
From experience of watching Aussie boxers, they don't tend to be too tricky, but strong and fit and sometimes quite competent boxers, so if this is the case, I expect it to be a tough battle for Earl, but win or lose it shouldn't be controversial. Down to wire, possibly, but not another supposed scandal (fingers crossed).
I see you've already started your witch-hunt for Graham
Sounds to me like you've completed your scorecard before Earl's thrown his first punch! Nothing like a fair shake, hey?

Yeah he's facing Katsidis for the WBO "interim" (yawn). I actually think he should have enough to beat Katsidis legitimately, and your appraisal of Aussie fighters is in general pretty accurate. Katsidis is a good crowd-pleasing puncher and they tried to launch him in America, but he had visa problems (he's got "form"). I think this will be a very good scrap, whatever the result. However I do fear Earl will get the decision regardless, because he's being groomed to defend against Amir Khan by the end of the year.

No, you're right, boxing is an honest, clean sport in which everything happens above board and nobody ever has an ulterior motive ;)
The judges are naturally impervious to influence and will not let the five-star hotel rooms, complete with Spearmint Rhino girls for company, affect them in any way.
