PBF is a skilful fighter, but put him up against some of the real greats and his ranting looks a mite pathetic.

If he achieves 1/10 of what DLH has in his career, plus what DLH is already achieving out of the ring, he will be doing well.

Mind you, there are few better fighters than an angry DLH, so, it could be fun to watch if he catches up with the running man

1/10? Mayweather has beaten Castillo, Corrales, Jesus Chavez, Genaro Hernandez, Carlos Hernandez & was a genuinely great super featherweight champion, though his later career is more manufactured.

He's a better boxer than Oscar, who let's say was a great handicapper.
And you honestly believe that those fighters are better than any that Oscar has fought?
Its a shame Jesse Owens isn't in there too, Mayweather can definitely run like him.

Prime versions of Mosley and Trinidad are better than anyone Floyd fought so far by a country mile, and Oscar was jobbed in two of three of those fights.

When you say handicapper, are you talking about Oscar's reputedly huge weight advantage over his foes come fight night? There was some talk of him cheating the scales in his early career, though I've never known what was being implied by that.
That's a part of it. Oscar was absolutely dwarving his 130 and 135 opponents. He could only get away with doing this for a couple of years but it was all geared to making him look dominant & devastating (plus he didn't even face the real champs of those divisions).

Oscar has fought loads of big name foes, but most had issues. Chavez was done after those Randall fights. Vargas had been battered by Tito, Mosley 2 had been looking listless, Quartey coming off injuries and layoffs etc.

The peak fighters he fought were Mosley 1 and Trinidad. In these fights his stamina let him down badly, IMO.

The first Mosley fight was absolutely razor thin for Mosley, in fact as I recall, had Mosley not won the last round on the cards it would have been a majority draw. Mosley was at his absolute best, and there was virtually nothing to separate them.

Oscar's judgement also let him down against Trinindad, he thought he had it in the bag, and should have done in reality, and threw the fight away. Sure, maybe Trinidad would have knocked him out if he hadn't run like that, we'll never know.

Yet Oscar couldn't summon the rally over the last couple of rounds, vs the smaller man (plus he fought down to Mosley). That was the 1st Oscar fight I ever saw and left an impression - he's very good, not great.

Vs Trinidad, he used up so much energy he couldn't do anything late. Hopkins showed how to move & conserve energy at the same time, vs Trinidad.

Never liked DLH and he has a slight amateur way of punching, he slouches, his shorts never seem to fit him properly - he just looks so inelegant, although he's held his own vs the best.

Castillo's another guy who held his own vs the elites. Gave Mayweather all he could handle 1st fight, edged Casamayor, fought the outstanding Stevie Johnston to a win and a Fight of the Year draw and battered HUGE LIGHTWEIGHTS Julio Diaz (2x IBF champ), Cesar Bazan & Juan Lazcano (which does away with the theory that Castillo is a lightweight bully wh eats up smaller men).

I'd rather watch Castillo any day of the week. That's a real fighter. Smart, gritty crafty, no frills, no pissing about, no running, just a planned, well executed beat down (usually) and you get the impression that he'd be even more effective in a 15 round era.

Pundit thinks it may be for show but I recall one guy telling me all through the build-up to Oscar-Mayorga that it was all for show to keep Don King happy and that Oscar would have no extra fire. Odd, then, that Oscar beat the living shite out of Mayorga in a way we rarely see him do and then in the post-fight interview said "I gave him a good hiding for all the gyp he was giving me!" Or words to that effect.

As someone said Toney talks this talk then tries to beat you up, if Floyd runs his mouth then runs away he could end up looking very foolish.
I think Floyd is weird looking too, but my ex girlfriend, who is West Indian, but doesn't normally like black guys (go figure?) was like "Whose he, he's really cute."

Oscar however.....ooooOOOOOooo what a dreamboat... :P

Floyd moved a lot against Baldomir and went slightly into running territory for me. He will really feel the size difference when Oscar gets him in that ring and is turning the heat up on him.
Is there really a big size difference though? Didn't they start off at roughly the same weight? I'm not sure... What're your thoughts?

My feeling is that Floyd will win convincingly but people whose opinion is probably worth more than mine are expecting a good fight. So I'm staying hopeful.

As good as Floyd is I'd like to see him lose.
Weight can be pretty relative but when you think of them and see them together then try to imagine them in-ring you think of De La Hoya as huge. You could be right and wecould get to the night with there being a small difference. I just fancy Oscar to carry his weight far better.

I really fancy Oscar for this one, Floyd will have to avoid a lot of shots and if he does it with movement he may be hunted down.

The speed will be an issue. If Floyd finds Oscar hits faster than he thought he may just feel the power a bit more and realise that, for the first time, he is facing a guy with greater physical edges who is no slouch skill wise.
The general consensus appears to be that PBF will come in at no more than 150 on the night, having weighed in at 148. With Oscar trying to get as close to that as possible, so as not to be far behind in the speed and mobility departments Tel.

Floyd has never been able to understand why his skills/speed don't equal superstardom. He never really broke out of that career rut until he plastered a popular guy, Gatti. That'll be why he started crying after the Gatti win.

For some reason Yanks love Oscar. I always found his personality incredibly dull. His words scripted and banal.

Oscar raised his game against a scared Vargas and a cooked Mayorga...both guys who aren't going to be anywhere but in front of you. Oscar had a hard time getting Mosley either time, and will have an even more difficult time with Floyd. Words don't make fights, styles do.

Yes, you can clearly see Vargas shit himself as he bullied Oscar to the ropes.

It was a big lump of fear-shit, shaped like a hairy nacho. Vargas somehow, bravely, if that is not an oxymoron, managed to punch through it until his fear, and lack of ring smarts, turned the fight against him.

Oscars better skill and defense played a small role also.
Matty is one of the few Americans that understands and appreciates dry humour Tel. Even sarcasm.

To answer your question I am going for PBF, in a snoozefest with him running and a far too old Oscar unwittingly finding himself chasing. The only possible highlight will arrive if DLH lands a left hook on Mayweathers chin. Then at least we will find out if it is made of paper mache, or something more substantial. That night though, I will be washing my hair. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Afraid I got to disagree with you there mikee. With Sprott it was a chance, and only a punchers chance. With Oscar its two technically very good fighters, with one of them well past his sell by date. If you get what I am trying to say.

It's going to be about as exciting as DLH/Trinidad was. Once the fight was over, it was pretty awful, but the hype leading up was fantastic.

I think the criticisms of DLH's stamina is a bit much.

vs Mosley 1 - Shane was on fire in that last round and needed it after losing the middle rounds after a bright start. I'll have to view again, but sure DLH won the 11th.

vs Trinidad - I love Gill Clancy, but he kept telling him to take it easy, keep away, Trinidad is dangerous and crucially words to the effect off - "Your a mile ahead on points". He was boxing to orders. Sure maybe he should have used more gumption but I don't think it was because he was so f'd that he couldn't.

Showed great stamina and heart in most of his other long fights - even if the option wasn't so great. After a dodgy ninth vs Mosley II - DLH came back and continued to dominate. Similarly won the championship rounds vs Sturm - was it enough to win the fight? Not sure, but it won it for him with the cards. Came back from adversity to nearly KO Quartey - and did the job vs Vargas (in a fight which was very close on the cards at the time).

Maybe he will lose and i will be sad, but if he wins - and if he BATTERS PBF like he was at Harry Ramsdens, then this board will have a big metaphorical smile on it and not just from me....

Absolutely Mikee, and I will be amongst theose smiling. I just think Mayweather would not have taken the fight had Oscar been anything like his peak. The same way that I will state here and now, that YOU personally have more chance of putting your hands in Ramsdens deep fat fryer for an hour and emerging unscathed, than Mayweather EVER sharing a ring with Miguel Cotto. Cotto would need to have been annihilated at least twice Gatti style, before Mayweather would risk it.

Undoubtedly. The PBF-lovers give it out he is the best in the world (and he probably is dont get me wrong) BUT you have to have fought the best. As i said in another thread, to be considered the anywhere near the equal of SRR, PBF would have to fight and beat Hatton, Cotto, Margarito, Paul Williams, DLH, Winky Wright, and Joe Calzaghe. That compares well to the quality and weight-growth that SRR displayed, IMO.

He wont fight Cotto because of the 'JUST IN CASE' factor. You cannot be champion of the world without risk and if we are all honest he has not took a risk since Castillo

Are you forgetting he offered Cotto a fight at 140 but Arrum said Cotto wasn't ready for Floyd yet. So let the records show Floyd tried to make the fight with both Cotto and Hatton - both camps said their fighter wasn't ready at that time.

Lets look who Floyds been turned down by flat - Mosley, Hatton, Cotto. Judah/Gatti both were risks and had the power to finnish the fight with 1 shot and Mitchell/Baldomir were risky to some extent.

It all comes down to who you believe. Those of you with inside knowledge obv know differently to us lot, but i dont believe anything a fighters team say about matchups gone bad. look at haye-enzo, they are both blaming eachother. And as for PBF asking out Cotto and Cotto not being ready, well that is another example of a risk avoidance, looking for a fighter who is not ready. You have half a point, in that the fight could have been made but wasnt, but if PBF turns it down now or in the future, what is the defence for that? I've moved on? from what? fighting the best? theres no defence for it if you set yourself up as king of the castle you take on everyone or get the mud slung at you. Check my posts i have given Hatton and Calzaghe as much stick as anyone, but no-one can tell me PBF is somehow 'above' criticsim.

Exactly. Mayweathers fanboys would have you believe he called out everyone from Rafael Marquez to Mike Tyson and they all avoided him. I actually wonder if these people have some sort of mental deficiencies. You can look and listen to Mayweather, and unless you are totally niave, you can see that he is garbage and therefore a liar. This within seconds of hearing him.

He said that Margarito was unworthy, yet Gatti, and Baldy were not. The fanboys argument goes that Baldy's title, from an inherently corrupt organization, is more worthy than Tony's title from an identical one.

As you say, let us see what Mayflower does with these guys now they are peaking, never mind alledgedly calling them out when it suited him. The one that always amuses me, is he called out Kostya, and Kostya ducked him. I haven't laughed so much since the the Yanks went running out of Saigon.

Who you believe? Well how about Mosley publically turning Mayweather down? How about Hattons father publically saying they turned down 3-4 offers because the stage was not ready for the fight to happen. How about Arrum publically stating Cotto wasn't ready after a few WBO title fights?

As for Mayweather-Tyszu - Mayweather talked about it (he started to trash talk Tyszu a little calling him a 1 handed fighter) and it was supposed to happed after Tyszu fought Hatton. Tyszu lost and Hatton and Cotto weren't ready for Mayweather. So he went after Judah who was Linear Welter champ. Judah screwed that 1 up and Hatton was offered Judahs opponent. But despite that he still fought 2 linear welterweight champs back to back and is now fighting 1 of the greatest fighters of the last 10 years who is coming off a big win and has the WBC belt at 154.
