Read my previous post about the lack of a referee, and a vet at a dog fight, compared to the presence of a ref and a doctor at a fight. That should answer your question. Also another relevant point about one minute breaks every 3 minutes.

So anyone who watches a fight is complicit in the act? (i.e. boxing= same as dogfighting=we're all savages simplistic reduction)

Ever since movies like PEEPING TOM or HENRY PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER ppl have been forced to contront WHY they are watching i.e. violent material - by thought provoking, self reflexive filmmakers. Regarding boxing, all it takes is a serious injury to being up the subject.

All I said was swings and roundabouts. What McC did was cruel and sick. It's ironic - in a BITTER kind of way - that he would be forever stopped from doing that shit that he BRAGGED ABOUT, in a brutal, all or nothing fight.

I'm glad his family got some money, because they have to look after him. And now that Gerald's no longer the same 'subject', it raises philosophical questions ie is his comeuppance (as it could be viewed as, particularly to animal lovers) disproportionate? Being that he's not the same man now.

(On this subject, I've heard Toney brag about hunting, shooting deer, tearing their "f'ing heads off"...but then again there was never anything that that creep seemed to respect in life.)

I've always grown up around animals, and it's built into me - and a lot of ppl - when they see or hear about an animal that's been abused/neglected - to naturally react like "The bastard who did that should have his head cut off."

I can't hide from that reaction. Does that make me a bloodthirsty savage hypocrite? Enhanced by the fact that I watch fights? Does it wank.

Did you watch Geralds fights??.... did you watch his fight with Benn??... if you did then you've no right to say that Gerald doesnt deserve help just becuase of what he may or may not have done to dogs in the past??... the fact is that many fighters like Gerald come from less than salubrious backgrounds and indulging in dogfighting is part of this background for some... do you boycott Roy Jones fights??.... if you hate these men for what they have done to dogs yet are still willing to sit down and watch them in the ring then your nothing but a hypocrite I'm afraid. And if youre willing to watch someone fight but then begrudge them aid after they get seriously injured FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT! ...then well, thats pretty low imo. Boxing involves two men of similar weight using both hands.

Gerald took a labrador (a natrually passive dog) and taped its mouth shut so it was defenceless. He then put it in with a snarling agressive bloodthirsty pitbull.

The boxing equivalent, would have been to put McLellan in with Mike Tyson then tied his hands behind his back and let Tyson tee off until he slaughtered him.

Then and only then would the dogfighting that Gerald loved not be far removed from boxing.

Dont dare tarnish a great sport with sick fucked up shit like dog fighting.

Your credibility just flew out the window, with you're condescending implication that people from deprived backgrounds are drawn to savagery. Maybe you should try reading about Roman Rulers, even inbred filth like the royals, and there never ending blood lust.

So it follows should McClellan have got the support from the British boxing world that he got? For me that is the only question that needs to be answered.

All I'm saying is that its hypocritical to criticise a guy so much yet still be happy to watch him fight and put his health on the line for your entertainment... simple as that, the real plonkers here are the ones still bleating about what Gerald supposedly did to some dogs over 15 years ago!... its little short of pathetic... the mans half deaf and blind now... talk about kicking someone when theyre down... you hand wringers should give to the RSPCA or something like that, or why dont you go after some people who are actively involved in dog fighting now, rather than taking your anger out on someone who hasnt touched a dog in years and cant defend himself verbally or physically anymore...

Dogs: unwilling particpants, one ends up dead

Boxers: willing, paid particpants

Doing it for OUR entertainment? No Silkov, doing it for their bank account.

Stop getting so emotional and acvcept when Gerald had his full capacities he enjoyed inflicting carnage on other life. And yes, i find his fights and style of boxing entertaining. Tyson too. Doesn't mean i have to like the guys.

I wouldn't go that far. He is after all a human being ( alledgedly ) But I think we should all remember that at least he had a referee and a doctor on hand, even if the medical support was inadequate in those days. The dogs only have a load of evil scum baying for their blood. Certainly no vet on hand.

Inadequate medical support? It was the ADEQUATE medical support that saved his life. He was in Hospital in record time and stabalised in minutes. Get your facts right. Six doctors, an aneathetist, two teams of Paramedics and two fully equipped ambulances. Better than the two Physio's that attended John Terry yesterday if that was a Boxer can you imagine the uproar?

Stop getting emotional about some dogs that died almost 20 years ago mate... you enjoy Geralds fights yet still see fit to put the boot in everytime he's mentioned because of the dogs, in my book that makes you a hypocrite...

I knew Gerald did some bad things with dogs, but I didn't know it was to the extent of what KO Artist wrote. Doing that sort of act to animals is an out and out act of sheer wickedness.

If someone does that sort of thing, and more to the point, they get a kick out of it, they must have some serious mental issues. Regardless if it was yesterday, or 20 years ago, it doesn't deter from the fact of how bad it is to do such a thing.

IMO, it's some disturbed shit by doing that sort of thing to animals. I actually feel sick now.

As it happens I am one of the guilty party's, so I will apologise and desist after this post.
However it was Gerald himself that boasted about his fighting dogs, and how he would buy other dogs to feed to his, just to keep them mean and in fighting shape.
I have at no time thought he deserves the suffering he has had, and nor would I. But the fact remains, some extremists have very strong views on these kind of things, and they do demonstrate, and generally try to cause trouble at public events.
Gerald had a choice, he knew the risks of boxing and chose to box.

The dogs dont know the risks of dogfighting and had no choice. Gerald forced them to fight.

In the case of the labrador he bought and mowing down dozens of flamengo's in his hummer, show that he was capable of astonishing acts of pre-meditated cruelty to animals. He obviously got a kick out of it, so in the end I would say yea, McClellan got what he deserved.
Not to mention the women he beat and put in hospital.

Does Benn have a myspace? Someone should tell him what sort of person McCellan really was as Benns beat himself up about this and said he was near suicide.

good point (again) andy mac about the medical team on hand to save g-man.
to all those who care about such things, had gerald not been injured in the fight he would, i am sure, be indulging his hobby to this day. so, silkov, its not as if he saw the error of his ways. and please, my old mate, gerald was a destructive fighter not for my or yours or anyone elses entertainment, but for his own benefit.
finally, can you say hand on heart that a guy with his mind set would have cared a jot if his opponent had ended up like he did?

I hold my hands up and confess!

I am responsible for the death of over 100 ants by drowning.

The summer of 1983 i dug a pit filled it with water in the middle of an ants nest. I am not sure the total fatalities but it must of been 100+

My coviction from the Box Rec posters, i got what i deserved

A bloodclot on the brain, weeks in a coma and extensive brain damage. Loss of eyesight, ability to walk and 80 percent deaf.
