Has a hugely hyped debutant ever lost his first pro fight?

Shit the bed, Khalid Shafiq, was that broadcast? Was on Harry Simon/Winky Wright undercard, wasn't this on Eurosport?

What was all the hype over Shafiq about? Sounds like a complete tool. How come he hasn't boxed since?

"Only wanted to be a gangsta", too bad he was about 10 years before his time. All the teens think their gangstas these days.

It was on Sky, I think there were a few ringside segments about him. I think he did some good things as a Junior and Brendan was really going OTT.

Didn't he have to fight abroad cause he was too young to turn over in this country? Another reason why it got some publicity.

But my original point was the BIG debuts; boxers that were already famous before they even threw their first punch for pay. Think Audley, Amir, Bruno, Errol Christie, De La Hoya. Did Bugner fit that category? His early career was before my time.
yes very rare for a valuable talent to get matched tough first time out, though the 84 US Olympians were given pretty tough fights for their debuts - but you wouldn't worry too match when matching those guys: Breland, Taylor, Whitaker, Holyfield.

I think Holy had the hardest debut fight of the lot.

Nearest to a debut loss of a hugely hyped amateur star was George Collins: He was fighting his last bout in a vest, looking to break a UK record for longest undefeated run.

With new manager allegedly sitting ringside, looking forward to seeing his new hot property show his talents, Geroge was blown away inside a round by Gary Stretch!

Sh#t, has anybody seen Holyfields debut? Forget the fellas name but he was a reet old tough b#stard, i think the majority of other debutants would have been chinned in that kind of fight, Holyfield was a warrior right from the off.

Also, the same night Tyrell Biggs got matched tough with hard nut Mike Evans.

Oh yeah, how can we all forget JOE SAVAGE?

The legendary bare knuckle fighter, so dangerous he challenged to fight Frank Bruno and Lennox Lewis on the same night.

He turns pro in 1994 and... Smokin Bert Cooper marmalises him inside 60 seconds.

Yep, horrible piece in the morning papers, some poor 16 year old with a 18 month year old son, who was being terrorised by a gang of youths on his estate who kept breaking his windows. When he confronted him they first slashed his face with a stanley knife, and stabbed him in the neck just missing his jugular.

A week later one guy taunted him to get him out of his house, while his accomplice waited outside with a gun, then shot him four times, once in the heart, and once through the lung, and through both hands as he tried to defend himself. All in front of his 18 month year old son who was waddling around outside when they found his body...

Christ almighty, how can people have so little compassion? What kind of sick bastard shoots someone for confronting them over them abusing him in the first place?

I remember reading a few weeks ago about a guy who was stabbed to death on a bus in London, by two youths because he asked them to turn off their mobile which was playing no doubt crap, tinny music over the phones's speaker at full chat.

Can anyone explain to me this new craze of listening to music over the shit speakers on your phone? It sounds shit, and I almost think that a lot of 'yoot' do it just to piss people off and see if they will confront them about it. I mean, surely headphones sound better, as well as not pissing eveyone off. I've also noticed this other weird tendency people have of moving the phone around and speaking directly into the mouthpiece as if it was a walky talkie, and then replacing it to their ear to hear the reply. Can anyone explain why anyone would want to look so fhucking stupid?

In a nut shell they're attention seeking knobends with little or no consideration for others.

Good call from MightyWarrior. Has to be Michael Bentt. Really touted and flopped badly in his pro start. So badly, they had to wheel in James Holly to get the wins rolling.

Khalid Shafiq ! That's the guy I was thinking of on another thread. Skysports showed his debut live, after Boxing News had done a big article, and with Ingle talking complete bollocks about him.

He just ran around the ring, flapping his arms about and escaped with a fortunate draw.

God your totally right, this deserves a thread all to itself. I avoid buses, and use the old feet, but due to torrential weather have had to use them twice in recent months. Both times upstairs, sat at the back (obviously) were some teens in tracky Bs playing that weird tacky dance music with high pitch speeded up vocals off their mobile on an otherwise crowded and silent bus.

Its f#ckin confrontational, pure & simple. They know its anti-social. I got off at my stop and looked back to see who the c#nts were, and no surprise two chavvy teens staring directly back with the atypical sneer, wanting someone to say something.

I would have enjoyed slapping the c#nts, but in this day and age your liable to get a blade through the throat or heart and thats it, your life over prematurely at the hands of a cowardly weapon wielding chav (judge award chav 500, 000 compensation, damages to hand and broken blade whilst murdering you)

Posts like that make me so happy i live in the sticks, okay we have dicks in each town, but usually the most we get is a bottling or maybe, at a push, a stabbing. Nothing like the regularity of big citys though, not yet anyway.

Yeah that definitely fits the bill, although hyped for novelty reasons rather than skill or amateur achievements.
