Thats a picture of Michael Spinks.
Are you sure mate? There seems to be the missing tooth and it looks like just after the decision was announced after Spinks - Ali 1.
I am fairly sure that's Neon Leon.

Both ugly as hell though :TU:

It looks like Michael. Michaels slimmer face, body not as thick as Leon. Im sure thats Mikey after he outpointed Mustafa Muhammad.

Heres a good one from his later career. Im assuming the other guy tripped over.

I believe thats Michael.
There is a similar pic. of Leon out there, but isnt that Butch Lewis in that pic. there?
Wasnt he promoting Mike for awhile?
Maybe he was promoting Leon too .

Butch Lewis certainly did promote his fighter Michael Spinks.

Butch Lewis made sure that LARRY HAZZARD was referee for Spinks' fights in Atlantic city.

And when Spinks was beaten up by Eddie Davis in Atlantic City,

Larry Hazzard gave Spinks every round as a judge in that fight to help Spinks keep his title.

Butch Lewis paid Hazzard off in $100 bills in the dressing room right in front of Spink's sparring partners, according to them.

With Larry Hazzard refereeing, Spinks was free to use his pet "punch," an elbow following up either a left hook or an uppercut.

Angelo Dundee said between rounds on national television to his fighter Vonzell Johnson during his title fight with Spinks (with LARRY HAZZARD, of course , as 'referee' )

"If he hits you with another elbow, KICK HIM."

Spinks was able to weigh 173 1/2.

Butch Lewis would set the scales so that 173 1/2 pound Spinks weighed 175

so that his 175 pound opponent would weigh a pound or more over 175 at the weigh in.

They pulled that on Eddie Gregory (Mustafa Muhammad) the first time they fought. Eddie spent hours in a steam room the day of the fight. During the fight he beat Spinks up for the first rounds and then ran completely out of gas.

For the second Spinks-Eddie Gregory fight in Washington DC, Gregory kept a calibrated scale in his hotel room and knew he weighed within the 175 limit.

When he weighed in on Butch Lewis' scale at over 175 for the fight,

he refused to accept that.

The fight was called off.

Yes, Butch Lewis certainly did "promote" Michael Spinks.

Buzz,

You saw Joe Frazier knock Ali flat on his back?

You saw Jimmy Young give Ali a boxing lesson to end all boxing lessons?

Good for you, buzz.

Could be right now that I look at it.

Butch worked with Leon as well.

Also that arm with the stripped track suit is the same design as Team Spinks wore for the first Ali fight. Did Mikey have a gap in his teeth, like in this picture? The trunks look the same as Leon in the first Ali fight with that thin white strip at the top as well.

Wish it was in colour.

I watched the Spinks-Mercado fight again the other day. Spinks reminded me of a bigger version of Aaran pryor, he kept up the pressure and kept throwing punches smothering Bernado.

Spinks showed he had a chin of steel in this fight as Spinks just walked right in winging punches and everytime he got inside he was rocked with hard punches from Mercado, but simply absorbed them and fired right back. One of the better HW fights of the 80's and Spinks always comes to fight.

KOJOE90,

Senile Sam Solomon was in Leon Spink's corner for the two Ali fights.

So was Georgie Benton.

In the second Ali-Spinks fight, Benton left the ring and the arena in the middle of the fight in disgust at the farce going on in front of him.

Benton left senile Solomon there to "handle" Spinks.

If this photo is of Leon Spinks after the FIRST Ali fight,

Solomon and Benton should be in the picture, and they are.

In the picture posted (small one at the top of your post)

Benton is visible with his back to the camera in the bottom center and Solomon is visible to Benton's right with his two arms raised.

Are either of these visible in the other photo under discussion?

If they aren't, then it is likely the photo is of Michael.

I certainly saw your first assertion...

the second assertion is a close fight that your chosen man lost. Pretty simple stuff granberry nothing to get frazzled about. Had it gone to Young I wouldnt be grumpy about it one iota. That's the way the cookie crumbles granberry. Life is like a box of .........well you know.
