I always find it amusing the most hardcore Tyson lovers always write in child-like, near illegible 'text talk'

Mike Tyson was never scared of people he couldn't intimidate. Tyson was scared of people he couldn't beat. Big difference.

As for the original thread, Tyson did have great power. He may have been (behind Foreman and Shavers) the 3rd hardest puncher of all time. He had other shortcomings, but he was an extremely hard puncher with either hand.

Thing is that those people that say that his punch power came from hitting someone w/combinations is clearly underrating his ability to end a fight with one punch.
But seriously, is this like comparing apples to oranges? Holmes said Shavers hit him harder, but Tyson was the only one to KTFO Holmes. The marjority of the time the punch that KOs you is the hard punch that you don't see, not necessarily the hardest punch.

I just wanted to say that Shavers, Foreman, Tyson, Louis, Frazier, Marciano, are ALL fighters with the ability to end a fight w/one punch.

What I meant was Tyson had the ability to throw fast combinations with each punch being hard. Several Tyson oppenents said others hit harder with single shots. I think because Tyson could hit someone with several hard punches that was his greatest asset. As he started loading up with the big single punches he didn't look as devastating. Yes he could still knock some out with one punch, to be honest any world class heavyweight has that ability, but his main asset had gone.

As you said yourself Holmes said Shavers hit harder, its the punches you don't see that normally knock you out. Tyson had the best of both worlds, power and speed. Others probably hit harder when comparing single punch power.

No other fighters punch impressed me nearly as tysons did. Tyson is the most impressing puncher I have ever seen ( including Foreman and Shavers). Some of his KOs were unbeleavible.

Tyson is the far greater puncher in comparison to other HW hitters but he did not have raw power as some of the great punchers.

Shavers, Foreman, Frazier, Ruddock, Cooney, Marciano all had raw power who shot for shot, could probably hit harder than Tyson as they all relied on a single bomb to win. However Tyson was by far the more effective and greater puncher.

His power shouldn't be up their with Foreman,Shavers and Baer but as far as speed+power + technique he has to be rated very highly

Why could he not beat them? Because they would not fold and would fire back.
Why would they not fold and then actually fire back? Because they were not intimidated.
How did Tyson know he could not beat Holyfield and Lewis? Because he had met them and knew they did not buy into his image.

He couldnt beat them because they were better; at least when they fought him. there courage no doubt assited, but to imply it was the decideing factor is silly.
The main reason Douglas beat him is because he fought the perfect fight and may have caught Tyson under trained. Holyfields effective clinch and punch tactic was the main reason he won. Lewis safety first approach, combined with his power, and a probably well past his prime Tyson, won him that fight. In those losses Tyson never stopped trying to win, and admirably went out on shield. If they fought with the same amount of courage but with different tactics, they would have lost.
