Classy. I'm not a fan of him as a fighter, but he seems a good man.

i missed the first 5 rounds, i presume RC did some good work then. but credit to valuev, he came to fight as did RC, not much holding either.

Sauerland had Chagaev 115-113.

Like the Ruiz (vs Valuev) fight, very hard fight to score.
Chagaev's work was more eye catching (not always accurate) but was it often enough to win rounds.
For me it was yes. I missed the opening 2 session but I scored from Round 3-12 - 7-3 Chagaev. I gave Valuev the 6th, 10th and 11th. Although all the rounds were tough to score and I'd have no qualms whatever the score - cause it was such a difficult one to score.
Naturally, Chagaev will be better against fighters closer to him in size - but I am not sure he is all that.

I agree with both your statements Stu. I found it hard to decide who was winning the rounds. Chagaev was really only able to land looping single shots because of the size difference. However while Valuev probably landed more he reallty only has the jab and occastional stright right to offer, if he actually let his hands go he'd be countered very easily.
I also agree that Chagaev is no world beater Wald will try and get a fight with him as soon as possible IMO.

How can you say Chagaev is no world beater when he's beaten Ruiz and Valuev fairly? Not to mention thrashed Sprott.
Chag has good positioning, good strength, good instincts, solid all round, knows his way around a ring and Valuev was one of the toughest foes for the portly 'little' Russian.

good points, i think that we must give chag credit where credit is due, lots of boxers with better known names have failed against valuev etc

If he wins a unification, he should change his "White Tyson" name to "Two Chags."

Yeah sorry stupid phrase to use, I just meant I've never been that convinced by Valuev and although I think RC did a great job by beating him, I'm not sure if he'll be a threat to Wlad. I wasn't trying to say he wasn't world class in the current HW division.

IMO he looks pretty good vs a normal sized fighter. Nothing flashy, but effective.

Sorry Final Fight, obviously Chagaev is very decent his wins have shown that (I still think John Ruiz is good enough to cause most in the top ten problems). However, what I meant by my statement is that when this fight was first signed and discussed on here - some people said that Valuev will be toughest champion for Chagaev style wise to face - and if he can overcome it the EXPECT a long reign.
I think outside of Klitchsko he is the best champion, but not convinced he'll have a long reign. I expected that if Chagaev was to beat Valuev it would be need to be a bit more convincing than he was (I was a little dissapointed in the big man who just didn't throw enough)... what I didn't expect was a practical carbon copy of the Ruiz (vs Valuev) performance. I thought he'd either get KO'd or lose wide on points, or win convincingly.
I wouldn't say Skelton vs Chagaev is a forgone conclusion.

The fight had 7,95 million viewers in germany. Hernandez vs Avila that was shown after the fight had 3 million viewers.

I wouldnt give the bedford bear a cat in hells chance in that match up Stu!
Brawn, fitness and work rate wouldn't be enough to unsettle such a well schooled southpaw counter puncher IMO
I must admit I like Chageav and his style - he would punch holes in Sketon's ropey technique for my money.
I would have given Matt a better shot at Valuev to be honest.
I hope Chagaev can grow in his role as a champ, although in physical terms he could do with losing ten pounds or so in weight.
Having said that, against the current generation of huge heavies, that mightn't be the best idea!

some heavyweights are better fighters for being a bit 'soft' in terms of physique, so long as it does not slow down the handspeed.
tim witherspoon was a good example of this, his skills and handspeed beat brunos chiselled physique !

Haha, thats quality! Chagaev brings an end to this grotesque freakshow. Chag has serious skills, doesn't overextert himself but solid all round. Im pretty sure a guy as well schooled and tough as Chag will have an eays time with Maskaev, Peter and any of the yanks out there.
Now he's lost his PR record i doubt people will be interested in Valuev. Might find himself less protected in future fights.
Chag v Wlad, time for another "panic attack".

Chag's Kohl fighter too.
I've noticed that Kohl seems to be getting his fighter WBA shots more than WBO like he used to now.

Good point. Chag moves really well for a 230-pound bloke and I was impressed with his ring generalship. I had him taking the 1st six rounds easily. I didn't think he'd be able to move like that for 12 rounds.
Chag is like a better version of Sultan Ibragimov. Though Sultan could only manage that kind of work for 6 rounds vs the awful (but tall) Ray Austin.

This is true, but it can also be a sign of laziness in the gym. Sanil Sam was always flabby, and apparently was an indifferent trainer.

You only have to look at their amateur fights to see the difference between Sam and Chagaev, Chagaev was always a big strong 91kg fighter, Sam fought the likes of Ottke at 81kg!!!! One of them doesnt belong at heavyweight
Great display by Chagaev, he had his gameplan and it worked a treat.
Valuev seemed very graceful in defeat... Good luck to him!!!!

Didn't realise Chagaev was such a good amateur: he beat Felix Savon apparently. Showed his good boxing brain on sat night though.
Said he did his pad work with his trainer standing on a chair..!

I wouldnt gloat so much mate Valuev only lost by a split decision and quite a few people think he was unlucky not to get it... either way hardly a bad performance for a 'freak' is it?.... Valuev will be back...

Chaagev outclassed him. It was only rounds 8, 10 & 11 that Valuev was in control.
God knows how you score rounds for a big guy whose jab is missing while the small guy moves to keep his unbalanced & counters with landing lefts all night.
