Well, Ricky Hatton was matched easily for YEARS, so I guess he can't fight then?

Just because Khan is being moved cautiously, doesn't mean he has no talent.

Thats your opinion. I think its all decidely dodgy, just how soft he is being matched. I mean there's soft... and then there's Amir opponents.

I think poor Amir is probably just surrounded by people continually hyping him up, so he doesn't realise a lot of people think he is a c*nt as he gets so wrapped up in it all.

He still has bags more potential than Fraudley, and time on his side, but bloody get on with it already!

I don't think he is terrible although it is true his bums aren't as good as Audleys bums, he is young and fast and hits hard he however has the wrong traner and is not learning to protect his chin on the way in and if it is a bit fragile which his opponents would lead me to believe that needs to change.

However he unlike Harrison is young and has time to work on those things if he gets on the right track soon.

He definitely boxes a lot smoother and nicer than Audley, even if his bums are worse, although you hit punch bags with impunity anyway.

It all rests on when a good pro plants one on his chin.

i'm with james here. he has bags of talent but is under the auspices of a man who is going to milk every available penny from his career. he's doing this by matching amir with fights/opponents so poor that ordinarily they would not get on TV, which is where the big cash is, but frank is able to get him on.
khan will go far in my view but hattons first 15 fights were not seen on telly at all and if they were they were not on big event programmes like practically all of khans have been. ££££££££££££££££££££££

and i also think thaxton would have handled himself well with any of those blokes after they'd had only 12 fights. even mayweather.

Naseem Hamed a 'hot prospect' from another decade best Vincenzo Belcastro for the European Bantamweight title in his 12th fight. Vincenzo Belcastro was a long reigning European Champion and fringe World class at the time (may even have been rated top 10 around that time) and was a much better fighter than anyone Khan has faced so far and Hamed toyed with him.

Evander Holyfield in his 12 fight beat the feared Dwight Muhammad Qawi for the WBA Cruiserweight Title in a real brutal encounter. Qawi was a MONSTER.

Oscar De La Hoya in his 12th fight beat the undefeated Jimmi Bredahl for the WBO Super-Featherweight Title and had beat a few name fighters before this fight as well.

Charlie Magri in his 12th fight beat Franco Udella for the Flyweight European Title.

Horice Notice in his 10th fight beat Hughroy Currie for the British & Commonwealth Heavyweight Titles.

Azumah Nelson in his 3rd fight won the Ghana Featherweight Title, 7 fights later he was the Commonwealth Featherweight Champion.

All these fighters were deemed prospects at the time and all won REAL titles off good to very good fighters. How long will it be before Khan can say the same?

Was just looking at Hollyfilds record when you said that, you forgett but he realy was something special. Thinking about it I really hope he goes into training soon and stopes getting beat up It'd be a shame if all those wars and all the experiance was finnished by him taking too many hits.

I don't think Amir is neccesseraly comparible to those other than naz they are all pretty much all time greates, Amir proberbly will not be although he should have a good carrer. Am I the only person who thinks his current traner isn't teaching him shit!

I said RIGHT NOW. We are talking about the era Khan fought in.

Khan is a young man, who has very little senior amateur experience behind him so is going to have to do some of his learning as a pro, which is why so few risks are taken.

My biggest beef is that Khan is almost headlining shows whilst fighting soft opponents, which risks turning the public against him. His showings are a lot more exciting though than the dire efforts Audley put up, so perhaps they will get away with it.

Almost all of the men you mentioned above had extensive amateur careers behind them. Magri had won 4 senior and 2 junior ABA's, a European under 21 Silver Medal, and had boxed for England 28 times before he turned pro. He also came up in the era before they wore headguards and fought three x three minute rounds, and fights weren't stopped the minute someone took more than two big shots in succession.

Amateur boxing is by and large shit these days. Pitty pat punching, single shots, very little in the way of sustained action, and guys fencing with their jabs trying to pick up points. Is it any wonder Khan is being moved slowly?

Khan is fighting in an entirely different era to those men, and he is being moved by a promoter who is pretty well known for being ultra-cautious.

when were headgurads introduced?

Not sure precisely, I think it was end of the 70's, certainly not when Magri was still an active amateur, which was up until 1977.

Thanks Joe, you did what i was far too lazy to do and come with a series of fighters who put Khan to shame.

Guys round here like James IMO are being far too easy on Khan for fighting such diabolical opponents. Alas, there has to be a better reason that JUST being with FW.

I am not being easy on Khan, I am merely contesting the assertion you made that he has no talent and is useless. I have been critical on Khan in the past and make no mistake.

I am however correctly pointing out that all of those fighters above had a lot more amateur experience than Khan, who is little more than an overachieving schoolboy who turned pro. His sole major experience as a senior amateur was to fight at the olympics. At least had he stayed as an amateur he could have made his mistakes in an arena where defeat is far less important. He's the golden boy of British Boxing, and he is definetly being protected, but he has talent. I have my doubts about whether he will make it near world class, but I think he will be European level or at least good domestic level.

Ha ha, are you serious!?!?!?!?

If you cannot see the potential that boy has, you should not be posting on this forum.

Absolute numpty!!!!!!!!
Did You think Audley Harrison had potential? I bet you did.
So what if Khan is running his mouth a bit, he's a cocky young lad, what do you bloody well expect.

As I said, name me a 12 fight novice that you would favour to beat Thaxton right now then.
Khan obviously thinks he's ready. He's ran his mouth to all his British counterparts, and when someone steps up to shut Khans mouth. Khan runs away. Signs of a true champion there. There’s nothing wrong with running your mouth. Ali did it for years but unlike Khan he could back it up.

I could beat all the people Khan has fought so far. Am I going to be the next world champion? Or even British champion for that matter? No way in hell.

Khan V Earl is a 50/50 fight to me. Khan V Thaxton. Khan has no chance.

agree with james except when he says "khans fights have been more exciting..." banging guys out quickly if the guy is way off your class is not exciting. its appaling.
