I think Mayweather understands his role as the bad boy in the promotion and is playing it well. His behaviour is only going to increase pay per view sales which means more $$$$ for him!
It’s exciting for me as I'm gonna be there in Vegas! Missus isn’t to pleased that I spent the budget on doing up the bathroom to go!

Very true Chambers.
Those Americans will have fallen for that HBO glossy nonsense.
They will all be cheering the Mr Clean Cut Family Values champ to beat the Mr Nasty Disfunctional Family Hip Hop Loving Gangsta!
Mind you I'm paying a fortune to go so does that make me a bit of a sucker too?!?!?!

DLH v Trinidad was the biggest PPV, I think Leonard v Hagler generated the most money overall, if you figure in inflation.

DLH – Trinidad might have done the record non-heavyweight PPV numbers but was it really that big of a sporting EVENT outside of the Latino communities?
For me, I would say no.
They were running short teaser trailers for De La Hoya v Mayweather on the strip in Vegas back in December, a full 5 months before the fight is scheduled to happen.
In my eyes its bigger then De La Hoya v Trinidad, but not as big as Hagler v Leonard in terms of publicity and interest from the average sports fan (certainly in the US.)

Difference is, only one of the two men this time are global stars. Mayweather is a nobody globally compared to Hagler and Leonard.
They need to hype this one hard to get a return on the massive investment.
Oscar is a big player, but they need to hype it to bring more to the table for floyd, who is hardly a huge draw.

They have to hype Mayweather up, because once the DLH cash cow is gone - HBO are on their arse.
Lewis, Jones, Gatti, Tito, DLH. Morales,....HBO are losing a generation of superstars.
Have they readily replaced them yet?
I know some smart arse is about to tell me they're all Showtime fighters I just named but you get the jist.
