It's possible he did a bit of weight training to bulk up a little before fights, and so entered the ring heavier, but he was a natural middleweight.

At his age though, he is bound to fill out a bit, and he was probably training like a madman between bouts to keep his weight down, but that is surely still better than using artificial means to make weight.

Hopkins does seem to have benefitted from a move up, but at 42, that's no surprise.

I really wish there were more restrictions made on making weight, I'm glad to see that some of the sanctioning bodies are getting serious about weight making and having check weights at 30 days etc. I also think that there should be a maximum weight in the ring on the night.
BHOPs weighed 172 or 171 against Hoya. The thing is BHOps probably weighed 172 year round so he only really needed to worry about weight making in the last few days. I don't think he weight drained as such, more starving and a little water restriction. Note Delahoya made Hopkins weigh in at 156 for their fight. The most worrying weight drainers have to be the Harrisons, James Toneys (coming down from 200), McCellan, Corrales. Hatton seems to handle weight making very well despite his lifestyle.

Some fighters just need to skip breakfast to make weight - I know I'm about 4lbs lighter in the morning than in evening.

Riddick Bowe late in his career, Ali late in his career....
Even the heavies drain weight it would seem.....

The most shocking weight draining I witnessed in recent years was Arce, he is 108 fighter, came in to the weigh in 3 lbs over then weighed in a 1lb under an hour later... he then weighed in 13lbs heavier on the night....putting on 12% of his bodyweight in 30 hours... shocker...

Gatti versus Gamache is another one, Gatti put on 19lbs .....

Was that the one Sky showed, where he had to be practically carried off the scales? I agree, that was shocking.

Recent Interview (i think in the RING) Hopkins said he was a natural light heavy, and if people knew what he had gone through to make MW he would get a Blue Riband (altho what chocolate has to do with it i do not know)

i might be wrong, but i recall him saying that

Well he seemed to manage weight pretty easily, considering how often he came in under the weight limit, and he never looked bad at the weigh ins particularly.
