I'm going to pick De La Hoya by late stoppage. Mayweather hasn't really impressed me much since going up in weight. Castillo was quite successful at pressuring him and getting through his defence so I think the extra power and class of DLH will be enough to force a stoppage.

My initial pick was mayweather on points, but Ive now switched to Oscar. He really appears to have trained his ass off for this, Shane Mosley (a current top 10 p4p fighter imo) as a sparring partner and freddie Roach on board. They'll get the job done. Theres also always a blase factor in Mayweathers camp and the strain within the family must have some adverse effect.
Anyway - Oscar for me, which is bizzare because 2 or so months ago I was 100% sure Mayweather won the fight.

I'm going for Oscar on points – I think he'll rattle Floyd significantly so he retreats into survival mode... i hope so anyway!

Haven't got a clue, one day I think Floyd will just be too quick of hand and foot for Oscar and win a fairly wide UD. Others I think Floyd will try and take a rest on the ropes only for Oscar's accuracy and punch power (together with his finishing ability once he feels he has someone hurt) to take him out of there or hit him til the ref calls it off.
Today though i'm going for Oscar in 9

Boxing at's best. Two massive boxing superstars prepared to put it all on the line

. It doesn't get any better than this. Whether the fight lives up to expectations remains to be seen
I can't pick against Mayweather, not even at light middle and against the modern day great De La Hoya.
Points (or even late stoppage) win for Floyd.

When this fight was first announced I really thought Oscar would do the business, that he’d be too big, and have enough to take Floyd out… Oscar’s win over Mayorga, was an eye catching performance that shows he’s still got what it takes at the top level.. Oscar is a man who enjoys it when the scales are in his favor and seems to rise to the occasion when there’s supposed bad feeling in the build up… I picked him to stop Vargas and to beat Mayorga and would like to see him beat Floyd…
However, the more I think about this one, the more I can see Floyd putting on an exhibition in speed, evasion, defence and accuracy.. I think it’ll go to points, maybe even Oscar deciding not to come out for the 12th… I don’t know, no one can be sure – that’s what makes this such an intriguing match up… I just hope if it does go to the cards we get a decent decision… With the headlines this match up’s been getting, it’d be nice to remember it for the right reasons.

I like Oscar by a late stoppage. Let's not forget that Oscar has some good handspeed himself. Floyd will not be able to have a field day like he did against Gatti. Plus he will be the stronger and bigger hitter in there.

Mayweather by shutout. I've gone back and forth on this and have settled on the better boxer over the bigger man. DLH could pull it out but I doubt it.

This is Mayweather's fight in that he needs to win it whereas I'm not sure Oscar does. I think Myaweather will be at his absolute peak and will be looking to cement his claim to greatness.
I also don't think that Oscar is a bigger man. They started off in the same division and although Oscar (being taller) might carry the weight better I don't think that the size advantage is as big as some make out.
I hope it's a close fight. I prefer Oscar as a fighter so I hope he wins but I can't see beyond Floyd.

Well, whoever you think is bigger, there is no doubt Oscar is stronger and a harder hitter at 154, Mayweather hasn't looked powerful since lightweight.

Well, Sharmba Mitchell, Arturo Gatti and Demarcus Corley might disagree.

Definately the fight of the century, but there are 93+ years left so plenty of time for new stars not yet born - If the fight goes to the scorecards you have to fancy Mayweather - With his speed and accuracy he cant be beaten on points not even by DLH - Oscar has to be looking for the stoppage and I cant see him leaving it late - I think about 4 rounds of checking Mayweather out and then blast him with power, 5, 6 or 7 for the finish - Talk of a rematch as both fighters are interviewed, retirement posponed - I hope it is worth stopping up all night for, should be, both are known for giving good VFM.

Really surprised so many are picking DLH to be honest.
Its PBF all the way in my eyes - just cant see what Oscar can really do to get hm out of his rhythmn and beat him TBH..
PDF by 4 - 5 pts on all cards.
People are citing Castillo's intelligent pressure as a possible measuring stick, but when has OScar ever been a methodical pressure fighter? And isnt it Oscar who has always struggled with fasty handed guys who can move?..

I can see DLH landing some heavy shots but I don't think he'll be quick enough to consistently follow them up. I think the way to beat Floyd is to throw everything at him for 3 minutes of every round, keep him on the defensive and take the decision. DLH is probably too old now for that strategy.

Oscar's win over Mayorga I thought was a bit of a smokescreen, as Mayorga is about as hard to hit as an elephant's arse, and I wasn't impressed as some by that result.
However, the fight was first mooted at 147, and is now happening at 154, which I think is a smart move on Oscar's part. Floyd is not going to be strong enough to hurt Oscar, and Oscar will certainly be able to hurt floyd, if he can land cleanly enough.
If Castillo could push Floyd hard, then surely the smarter and bigger Oscar can. I know Castillo is often talked about as a big 135 lber in his prime, but we saw how almightily he struggled at 140 last time out against a strong fighter who was natural at the weight.
Oscar may surprise a lot of people by trying to outbox Floyd rather than pressure fight him and falling into traps, and I think this fight could end up a bit like Leonard and Hearns, with Oscar having to pull something out of the bag.
I'm going to stick with Oscar, despite my wanting to change my pick. Oscar by late rally stoppage or majority decision, but he will have to take the last few rounds to win it.
Castillo is better in one department than DLH. And it's a major one considering going after Mayweather: cutting the ring down. DLH is not that kind of fighter. Never liked Oscar's style and I don't see anything he does better than Floyd. On the outside he's fast and slick but seldom shows authority (the way he was just touching Shane II and Tito to keep them off). As to closing the distance, I don't think he does that with any kind of brilliance.
I look at Castillo and Oscar and imagine both in a 15 round era. JLC would do even better than he has done because his style of cutting someone down is perfect for rds 13, 14, 15, DLH would do far worst tha he has done.
But Oscar is always a great handicapper. Every fight is on his terms. This time he has considerable size going for him up at light middle. This will be a factor especially v the lightweight framed, diminutive Mayweather.

Yep, was almost waiting for someone to make this point. Of course you are right, Oscar isn't a pressure fighter in the same sense at all. However, in his early career, he was absolutely annihilating opposition and was certainly aggressive. This is going to be the first time in a while where Oscar is facing off against a naturally smaller man, and this will surely allow him to change his style. Against Mosley and Tito he was dealing with fast, aggressive and hard hitting fighters he felt it was unwise to stand in front of, especially given that he lost a narrow decision to Mosley last time out doing just that. Will Oscar adapt his style for this fight?
Funny, was looking at a tale of the tape the other day and was surprised by the stats, however, seeing them side by side, Oscar's frame looks much bigger, whilst Floyd has got more muscle bulk for his frame.

That's my opinion as well. Think it will be close possibly controversial then we'll get the inevitable rematch (Yawn.)

Although i said De La Hoya by KO, i'm surprised by how many of us think he will win.
Seeing as we are the anoraks of the sport

, on paper it all seems to be a mayweather win on points. But alot of us are picking against that.
Is it all heart ruling over heads?
Looking at the facts, Oscar has lost 2 of his last 4, and one of those was by stoppage (Although at a higher weight). He wasn't impressive against Felix Sturm in one of those 2 wins, many thought he lost that.
When he last fought a fast handed boxer , Shane Moseley, he lost.
And now Oscar is going in with one of the fastest boxers in the world, who is unbeaten, and has hardley lost a round against some of the best boxers in the world.
Bugger it I'm Still going for De La Hoya KO4

Won't get great odds on it though. Don't think it's worth much of a punt. Might have some on Oscar by KO in the last few rounds.

i havent checked yet but i heard 13/8 on the outright win, i am hoping to find the late rounds on eights each? not sure till i look....
as for the points win by definition its longer than the outright win, possibly 3-1 or thereabouts?

You'll get considerably better than 8's for DLH in the closing rounds. Think more like 50/1 on individual rounds. You can get 20/1 for Oscar winning anytime in the last 3 rounds.
