DLH approach makes me think Hatton has a chance.

Cotto is the biggest threat remaining IMO. How much of a threat that is is open to question.

We can use ifs and buts all night but had De La Hoya been a 12 round fighter he'd have almost certainly got a UD over Mayweather last night, and not just because he was bigger. Full respect but let's not claim Mayweather to be unbeatable just because he is unbeaten.

Actually, could B-Hop boil down to Light Middle at 42? Now that would be a fight for the media attention, although the fight itself would probably be the worst in history.

Sellable on the top P4P fighters of the last decade pitch though.

Mayweather deserves a lot of credit for beating such a bigger man... Cotto would be a great fight but I Floyd would just be too fast for him... as for Hatton, Mayweather would stand him on his head...

Watching DLH's approach made me think the same, but not so much about Hatton but Cotto! Imagine Cotto stalking forward constantly landing harsh left hooks to the body and pinning Mayweather down to release shots. The main problem for DLH was stamina, he is 34 and old, he was knackered after round 6 but kept plodding in though visibly tired, through 10-12 he had nothing like i expected he wouldn't. Remember the way he tired late on against Mosley in the rematch down the stretch? What was to indicate it would be any different 4 or so years on.

DLH was effective when he closed the range and made Mayweather work, he needed to be either in our out of range, throwing punches when in and stalking when out. As he tired he was in range but not throwing which gace Mayweather opportunities to pick him off, which he obliged. One thing i would say is i was impressed by DLH's defence, the commentators were right he blocked and parried an awful lot in the early stages of the fight. Do you think Jim Watt enjoyed his "10 second bursts strategy?" after all he never shut up about it :) Only teasing Jim.

So as i said before, it was Cotto who i would love to see in with Mayweather next, that would be interesting. Mayweather hanging up his gloves makes absolutely no sense at all to me. He is clearly in his prime.

I'd love to see Cotto Mayweather. I like Cotto a lot, not sure he has the chin of De La Hoya though. Time will tell on that one but could see Floyd hurting Cotto with the right cross.

Cotto's career might be a slow burning one but he's one of the most well schooled & hurtful fighters around. I'd pick him over Floyd. Those cruel, compact punches coming from a young yet mature fighter could well be the end of Floyd.

You never know in boxing....

I'm even more convinced that Floyd would have too much speed of hand & foot and to sharp a defense for Hatton. Many will claim Mayweather's punches don't hurt, but that didn't appear to be the case against De La Hoya.

IMO, Cotto or Mosley are the biggest threat to Mayweather's undefeated career. How much of a threat each fighter is to Floyd is open to debate.

I'd tip Floyd to win against Mosley or Cotto, but they would be interesting match-ups.

Mayweathers retired, which is a shame for boxing. HE will come back for a fight or 2 for BIG MONEY. But it would have to be in excess of $10m, hes tasted a $15-$20m purse and never needs to fight again.

If Delahoya wants a rematch we will have Mayweather-Delahoya 2. Mosley and Hatton fighs are now unlikely and both shouldn't have turned down the opportunity of fighting him earlier

As for who beats him - Hatton no longer has the stamina he once has and would get horribly outboxed anyway. I think a prime Hatton loses 8-4 or maybe 7-5 against a prime Mayweather, which would be no shame.

Mosley is a different kettle of fish but Floyds better timing and defensive ability should edge out Mosley.

Cotto is potentially a great fighter but slow, predicatable and easy to tag. Mayweather should win a wide UD. I'm nto convinced he'll get past Judah

Margarito is too wild and would get his ears boxed off.

Most of all I'd want to see Mayweather-Mosley

I fancy Hatton to beat Cotto, but after last night I give Cotto more of a chance against Mayweather. I actually thought Hatton would have a decent chance of beating Mayweather up to now, but watching that it occured to me it would be just like the Baldomir fight only a bit more competitive.

Hatton could easily bring 10 mill to the table in my mind.

You have international TV interest, HBO, two unbeaten multi weight champions and contrasting styles with a guarenteed sell out. Should be at least 10 in there for Mayweather.

If they did it in England there'd be even more as you could do a huge venue like the City of Manchester stadium or something. Maybe even Wembley.

Hopkins didn't fight at 154 in his prime, so there is no way he gets there no. He will never fight again below 170. The fight itself would be hard to sell because everyone knows it will be a boring, tactical fight.....

Yes but Team Hatton would have to entice Mayweather out of retirement. Given they turned Mayweather down 5 times, how likely is that? Team Hatton would prefer to fight Torres/Magnillin/Corrales back to back instead of fighting Mayweather.

I honestly think Hatton will be done within 2 fights and I think he will want one of those to be a record pay day against the likes of a Mayweather. He's built up his record, now it's time to cash it in.

I've long thought that an all action, high output, pressure fighter is the perfect antidote to Mayweather, and I've also said in the past that if Hatton could somehow reproduce the form that got him past Tszyu, then he could be that man.

Mayweather needs to be forced back, smothered, made to work for every second of every round, and most importantly, roughed up. You look at light middle down to light welter, and there is a real paucity of fighters who fit that bill. Cotto is too methodical and thoughtful in what he does, and Mayweather is too slick to be walked down in the same way that Cotto gets most of his victims. Mosley's Indian summer is just that; a brief period of success at the end of a good career. The feet are certainly not as swift as they were at the turn of the millennium, and I doubt that he'd be able to pin Mayweather down for long enough to win rounds, let alone the fight.

Which leaves Hatton. There's not a single top level welter that I'd pick him against, but I really do think that he has the workrate, stamina, heart, chin, and desire to make a fight of it against Floyd. De La Hoya, if nothing else, showed that Mayweather can look almost totally disorganised and ruffled if he can be forced back onto the ropes. There's no reason why Hatton couldn't do the same thing, but keep it up for longer than Oscar managed. Granted, he'll be hit regularly as soon as he stands off for a second, but if Mayweather isn't given the space to do that the fight would be very, very close.

Unfortunately though, it just isn't going to happen. Mayweather has already decided that he's a legend, so what does he need the likes of Hatton, Cotto, and Mosley for?

plus our ricky doesnt convince anyone, especially himself, beyond 140 and floyd doesnt want to shed those pounds just to make it easier for hatton!!
the nearest thing we can get to this pressure fighter with a good defence alot of power, speed, great chin who is confortable at welter or light middle is......mosley has a few of those qualities but aint so fast and is getting on a bit now and doesnt exert much pressure. let floyd retire for a couple of years then get tempted back for a big fight with young xxxxx thats the only way we'll see him lose

I'm not writing off Cory Spinks beating Jermain Taylor... big underdog for sure - but if Kassim Ouma can give a good account, then it is possible for Spinks to be able to "in and out" vs Taylor and win a decision.

I think BOTH Floyd AND Oscar are praying for that result. I'd think they'd both fancy their chances against a natural 147 guy with no punch for the Geniune Middleweight championship. It must grate DLH a bit that Michael Buffer called DLH a champion in all weights and "WBO Middleweight champion". His Super Feather title is if anything less geniune.

Firstly, I think Hatton is a v.good fighter. he has proven himself to be one of the best british fighters of this era. But he has absolutely no chance of beating Floyd. He simply does not hit hard enough, just a bit too slow for floyd, and his defence is not good enoughv to cope with a great like Floyd
who could have lived with just about anyone in any era.
No matter what you think of Floyd outside the ring. In the ring is where it counts. Talent like his comes around every 10-15 years. It just doesn't grow on trees. How anyone can say that the victory against Oscar at light middle to make him a 5 weight world champion (genuine titles) does not automatically make him an all time great is beyond me. can anyone name 5 fighters in history that are as gifted as he is? (doubt it)

Another thing. Why when Mayweather's name comes up, the word boring keeps popping up? BORING! Sh!t!, you can go to any boxing event in the world and see a bar room brawl. Who wants to see that. Two boxers with limited skills slugging it out to the death. Yes, it's an exciting spectacle when to technically good boxers are participating ie Corrales v Castillo. When i watch boxing i want to see extraordinary fighters who challenge the best around and beat them any way it takes using the talent they have. Mayweather has always done this, and has always showed flashes of brilliance. from Hernandez to De La Hoya. I hope in the future people will recognise his achievements cos he deserves the credit.

Hatton has to step that little bit closer than DLH to be effective. Also, his defense isn't quarter as good... and if Floyd can visible hurt DLH, he can hurt Hatton.

It hasn't changed my opinion, infact Mayweather surpreme accuracy has and surprising strength has made me swing further in his favour.

Mosely vs Mayweather is now a very interesting fight. What Mosley dislikes is a guy with a massive reach and a tremendous jab. Floyd's jab isn't his most outstanding weapon and he'll be smaller. Floyd won't like Mosley's speed or footwork.

I'd actually tip Mosley.
floyd's reach is actually longer than oscar's, which is one reason why he was outjabbing oscar at times in the early rounds, when oscar was still throwing the jab!! i see floyd handling shane at least as well as he did oscar!!
Actually Delahoya had a 1inch reach advantage and a 3 inch height advantage according to boxrec

an english venue would boost ONLY the live gate, but would do nothing for PPV sales, in fact it would likely be lower than a PPV from high profile las vegas---the traditional venue for all PPV BLOCKBUSTERS (something like 7-8 out of top 10 alltime PPVs have been held in vegas) which only increases the fight's super status (at least american PPV sales, which comprises the lion's share of worldwide PPV sales)!! :TU:
Mayweather/DLH generated 19 mill off of 16,500 seats. A fight in Wembley could potentially hold 100,000 which I think if pulled off would make it the biggest live gate of all time which would make ridiculous money without even factoring in any PPV.

On the PPV end, HBO will def cover it. Sky Box Office would pick it up and just about every boxing friendly nation would want rights to broadcast.

So, in my view if held in a British super venue, it would actually make far more than any Vegas bill that doesn't actually have any real fans, only celebrities and corporates who pay over the odds for tickets just to say they were there.

No way Mayweather-Hatton sells 100,000 tickets here. Mayweathers an unknown here outside of the hardcore boxing fan. The most Hatton has sold was 20k tickets.

Even if they sold that amount of tickets it wouldn't make the $19.5m that the Delahoya fight gate made. BUT THEY WON't SELL THAT AMOUNT OF TICKETS!!!

Anyway whos going to organise and push for it? Team Hatton aren't going to beg Mayweather to come here after turning him down 5 times. Fight Academy don't have the promotional ability to pull it off either.

This fight will never happen, Team Hatton had their chance to make the fight and didnt want it. Now they've lost their chance

Mayweather an unknown? This is the guy who's been on every news station and newspaper in the build up to the DLH fight. I think it'd be a fair guess to say even non boxing know who he is now if they ingest any form of sports news at all. Even if they don't, it only takes a marketing push as the man who beat DLH to remind everyone of his stature.

The reason Hatton has never sold more than 20k is because he has never tried. He even got 20k fighting bums sometimes. Hell, even Calzaghe managed 35k against Manfredo! and is aiming for more than that if lands a fight like Taylor, and Hatton is far more marketable than Calzaghe is.

So, you've got the front row celebrities who normally turn up for mega fights and pay big bucks, at the very least 35k of Hatton fans, add another few thousand of boxing fans in the UK who will only pay to see Hatton in the big fights, more fans in Europe who will make the effort to travel from Ireland, Germany or wherever. Then you have Americans who turn out to see Mayweather and casuals/non fans who turn out because of media hype of the biggest fight every to happen on British soil, and then you have corporate seats and what not and pretty soon with that and other factors, you're getting pretty close to 100k.

Edit: Oh, and the British pound is far stronger than the dollar so I think on the break down of things, it would smoke the DLH gate.

There are some very naive people on this site.

Cotto would get outboxed by Floyd. As would Hatton.

It's blindingly obvious to anyone.
