Hard to call Joe Calzaghe's career an honest one. Or Alex Arthur's - waiting till Guzman vacates, very brave! - or Enzo Macca's - taking on a clubfighter

As for a Clubfighter, yes he was shit agreed but he was ranked higher by the WBC than the WBO. Yet you all had a hard-on for Bonin who Audley stopped. Where was he ranked?

Sure, he's not earning megabucks, but there really aren't that many fights out there for him in the Light heavyweight division that are going to be big earners. There are no established stars out there to compete against.

I would venture to say that Clinton relished his shot at Jones Jr. I doubt he fancied his chances much, because nobody in their right mind at that time believed they were going to beat him. Even Joe said in an interview once that in he couldn't have lived with Roy at his peak, and given Calzaghe's towering ego and self belief, that's saying a lot.

Clinton is a good solid, hard working pro, who isn't setting the world on fire, but thus far, he's had a good career.

As for the proposed Oboh fight, who the bloody hell HAS agreed to offer Oboh a shot at their title, are you suggesting Calzaghe would have, seeing as he thinks Froch beneath him, I doubt that.

As for the Calzaghe fight, I'd very much like to hear what Fight Academy's take on the proposed fight is, because i suspect it's not as cut and dried as is made out, what was being demanded in return? Options? What pay was on offer, etc.

I've no axe to grind, but given some of the recent dire fare that SN have served up, I think it's a bit of a cheek to be hurling criticism at Clinton's promoters, they've done a better job with Clinton than is being done with Macca lately, who seems to be slipping into obscurity, whilst Haye is building a fan base.

Nobody is perfect in the world of promotion, it's a tough business to be in, but I think Clinton has been pretty well served, though of course, I'm not in possession of any financial facts and figures.

Didn't see much of Hayes Fan base at Wembley Arena James. 1,500 sales confirmed by Maloney, Hardly Bruno is he?
No, of course he's not a Bruno, nor will he ever be, they are as alike as Fish and Brillo pads. These are also different times, Bruno came up in an era when boxing was really buzzing, those were heady days indeed for British boxing, a whole raft of really good exciting fighters, lots of terrestrial tv coverage, and tonnes of stuff in the print media about boxing. It's disengenuous to compare those eras in any way.

I said he was BUILDING a fan base. That fight is going to get people excited about Haye. A one punch heavyweight KO is good for business. Bonin was a reasonable opponent too, this wasn't a Bobby 'would need a gun to win' Gunn level opponent.

I am well aware that to date he has not been a big draw, that is partly because he is fighting in a glamourless division, and partly the bills he has fought on.

Are you saying 1500 ticket sales specifically for Haye, there were surely more than 1500 in attendance? Wembley Arena is a terrible venue at any rate, I don't know why people bother with it, it's such an arsehole of a place to get to and from.

1,500 in attandance (SALES NOT FREEBIES) and Oakley sold 200 of them. Sprott V Audley and Earl V Katsidis had over 5k in. Wembley a shit place to get to? 90k people may disagree with you tomorrow.

That's hardly a fair comparison is it, comparing the FA cup final at the new Wembley Stadium and

Boxing fans, unlike football fans, are not big travellers in the main. Boxing is not strictly speaking a partisan sport, although local lads are still the backbone of small hall and regional boxing shows, it is not what drives the sport any more.

I've only ever been to one show at Wembley that was packed, which I think was a Michael Ayers fight, forget who against, at Wembley conference centre, which holds around 4-5000 I think.

What Rosy glasses are these? I maintain that the 80's were a great time for boxing. Boxing was still a mainstream sport, which it most certainly isn't now. Sure, the fighters weren't making as much money, I know that the likes of Charlie Magri, a big ticket seller in his day, never earned a great deal. His best payday was with allegedly, funnily enough.

Every promoter has a show that doesnt sell well that life. I wonder if there would of been 5 k there if the show was on a friday, think some sky shows have suffered with it being on Friday.

Clinton wants to fight Calzaghe, that's for sure.
Perhaps he should TELL his Manager/Promoter to make it then cos they keep turning it down for him.
Any chance of finding out what the proposed deal he backheeled was? I'll then get it in Clinton's local paper and help you make the fight. No charge.

Err, his local paper went with it BIG. I am sure FW knows how to use the media a bit better than you. Whilst negotiating through the press keeps you guys in work the professional way is to deal through the Manager. Ask Hobson what the deal was.

Ask him what Clinton is getting for Gonzalez too and what he would have got from the Warren Purse offer. Whilst you are there ask him who gave Clinton his biggest ever payday to date against Johnson (3) and how much he skimmed off the Jones fight by selling it back to the Yanks to the detriment of his fighter?

Yes, the professional way is to let the professionals get on with it. So the fact you are on here perhaps confirms you aren't involved - as you have always said, to be fair. But you converse with an air of authority that comes from having privileged knowledge. It's a conundrum.

I can't remember the local press going mad over it but I could have been away. Or it could be the fact that another 'Calzaghe doesn't get fight' passed me by. You must concede, there have been plenty of them, whoever's fault they have been.

Calzaghe turns down Woods offer:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/4861904.stm

Instead he fought Sakio Bika. Why was that then? Because the deal wasn't right?

Guzman is fighting Katsidis at Lightweight, he's signed for it and has injured his hand. Nothing to do with bravery, Guzman is expected to vacate so Arthur will fight for the vacant title or id he does not vacate the Interim. If Guzman does not vacate and Arthur wins the Interim he HAS to fight Guzman next.

Learn the business before you make stupid comments.
Learn the business? Warren is very good at the business ie put your man in for the vacant crown. The business that involves demeaning world titles and selling the public a Euro level bout as a world title bout. Which is a fvcking piece of shit con whatever coloured foil you try to wrap it in.

God, remember the days when the Board wouldn't even acknowledge the WBC title belonging to Ken Buchanan? Nowadays your boss sells fights as world title bouts when in another era they would never be recognized.

Bit of a coincidence nonetheless that Arthur's shot comes when a very good fighter vacates...or has he? And if he hasn't, I wouldn't bank on AA facing him/// The previous time he wanted "St Clair, the weakest of the champions" (in his word) which became by default Klassen (who turned him down then lost to Fana after going in overconfident).

Maybe there will be this exciting era of British boxing that sees Arthur take on Mitchell, Cookie, Khan and Earl. That would be very watchable. But what of Pac, Barrera, Soto, Valero, Mosquera, LOL??

We dont want a rerun of the stifling of the Heavyweight division that has occurred. We keep throwing people in together instead of letting them advance to 'world' level by fighting international names. Matt Skelton might be champ rather than Danny Williams or Mike Sprott (half a euro champ), but the latter two are closer to world shots than Skelton because they have fought away and at a higher level

Clinton Woods is a legitimate holder of a recognised world title, yet people say he is not world class? okay he is not in the pound for pound top 10 but being a holder of such a belt and beating the best light heavyweight at the time in glencoffe johnson surely earns clinton woods the right to call himself world class.

Clinton Woods takes on solid world class fighters like Gonzarlez and Johnson and SN stooge Boxing Chat thinks he can have a pop!... how laughable!!... it really is a bit much, ...SN havent a leg to stand on when criticising the opposition of fighters like Clinton Woods... people keep saying that he 'isnt a draw' but personally I'd rather see him fight any day than sicknote Calzaghe or Khan... and if Clintons so limited why isnt Calzaghe interested in fighting him???.... and why should Clinton take the small end of the purse when its his title up on the line??.... now Clinton is doing what Calzaghe hasnt been able to, ...fighting in America while Calzaghe fights soap opera stars in his backgarden... I know who I consider the better champion!...

True, if everything goes well in Vegas Clinton will be in a better position than Calzaghe... I think the Americans will prefer his style to slappy Calzaghe and the fact that he fights 'live' fighters.... Woods vs Johnson in America could be pretty big....

oi! Just seen this smart arse comment of yours - repeated. Let's look at this shall we. Your boss told Boxing News that he wanted Gunn to go at least three rounds. What does that say about the validity of SN matchups? You should all be very embarrassed about the most pathetic fight card of the year.

Bonin was more respectable than Gunn - a 3rd rate loser who turned pro as a junior middle. Haye is still respectable. Enzo - a very good fighter - is in risk of becoming a joke.

Who cares where Gunn was ranked by the WBC? Better question is WHY he was ranked by the WBC? I suppose a dramatic Youtube video gets you a WBC ranking, eh? LOL

from your POV, the business is selling a 2nd rate fight as something more than it is, because you're in close with an organization with a 'W' letter in it.

You're welcome to your business. Swindlers.

by learn the business i suppose he means swallow bullshit about bought-and-paid for rankings.... anyone with eyes can see Bonin was a better oppo than Gunn... wtf is a title fight opponent doing in there 'expected to do 3 rounds'!! he should have found someone capable of lasting the effing distance at least, or are we the beloved and paying public not worth the money??

Come to think of it, how did Enzo's fight with Marco Beck's (or was it Heiniken?) guarantee him a shot at the WBO cruiser...hmmmmm....Looks like the dodgiest thing I've seen since Derek Harmon quit vs Dariusz Michalczewski a few years ago.
