It's impossible to get excited about any fights that Fwank talks about, because so many of them have fallen through in the past. Add to that Calzaghe's injury history and I'll believe the fight is on when they are both in the ring.
If it does happen it's a 50/50 fight. I couldn't pick a winner.

imo warren would rather be able to say, "haha, Palle never wanted it, he didn't!"
just like he says "Haye never wanted Enzo - he'll never fight at cruiser again!"

But so many happen also.
Personally I think Kessler will find out that Joe's too good for him. Overrated as a threat to Calzaghe, just not overrated as a fighter as he's a good one.

And the decider here could be that this is Palle's last chance at a ticket to the big time: his fighter is well placed to get a win that would turn him into an instant superstar, and all the millions that follow.
Very hard to turn that down, especialy with crucial home advantage.
Warren has said he accepted Palles offer, Then later it says that we sent a fax with the terms on it.

If you except a offer why the hell do you send a fax with TERMS on it.
Probably has more strings attached than a Wimbledon tennis racket - You know FW and his options.
Exactley what i was thinking.

Possibly, but lets hope for the best.

Palle is quoted as offering Calzaghe $5 million net and giving Warren British TV rights too.
No wonder this has been accepted.
I doubt it will materialise though. If it does, it will be with options which are unacceptable.
Sorry to put a dampener on it but I just can't see it.
However, if it does, I'll take Joe to win.

I heard it was $5 mill net but not including the british TV rights. If indeed it is net and the brit TV rights then that would over the top imo.
Palle is currently in hospital which is always serious when you are that age...

NOTW's FW article: he says that Palle wanted £2.7 million for Kessler to come to UK, FW said he could make that work, so said same figure for calzaghe in denmark - and apparently had no reply...

Palle sent an offer and FW accepted it, if Palle backs out now it will make all of his cries about Calzaghe ducking Kessler--past and future--entirely unfounded. It's time to put up or shut up for Palle.

That put up or shut up applies to Warren and Calzaghe too.

I think Joe has a lot to prove. Before the Lacy win, let's be honest, how many of us actually classed him as a world champion?
From the start, when he took on Siaca at late notice, and then defended vs Mundine in Oz, Kessler's done it the right way.
If the fight doesn't happen, Warren can point fingers and get one over on Palle, who has gone shockingly quiet. But it doesn't solve the problem of Joe's career. Kessler can go and fight Mundine again which could be a lucrative & respectable bout. If nothing big is in store for Joe, will he even fight Inkin? Methinks not.

Long interview with Calzaghe in the Independant today and it was good to read that Kessler is now his number one target, with no other references to the likes of Taylor and Hopkins. It has taken time, but I think Joe now believes that Kessler brings enough to help him secure a legacy. Likewise, he may now be aware that this is the fight the public wants to see, so his pride will have kicked in. Thinks HBOs interest in Kessler must have been a crucial factor.

Well he has more championship fights than Kessler?
And what Is the proper way?

Palle has gone quiet because he is hospitalized and when you are his age that is serious.

WBO sanctioned championship fights, Calzaghe has fought 90% bums for his defences.

i don't see any more need to stick up for calzaghe or hatton. ok so they are britain's best. but what the eff have they ever done for the fans, since winning world titles? they have been shameless at what they do. i don't care if they're british - i just feel compelled for them to lose (though the one guy i want joe to batter is taylor as he's useless and always was overrated).

Ha, Siaca won his WBA belt off Mundine who was never the true WBA champ, Ottke was so thats a bit hypocritical to say.
Why call any fighter a bum?
AutobarnMaussa, I only wanted to ask what Is the proper way not to stick up for Calzaghe.

Ottke retired that year. Therefore the regular and super collapsed into one. Kessler didn't seek out easy options, 2 years later unified with the WBC and the year after made a proper mandatory defense against a hard nut. There is no doubt now that he's a proper world champion. Hard to fault how he went about it. The Danes have not been hiding.
How many of us thought Joe was champion proper until he beat Lacy? We all just saw him as a WBO champ who could pick and choose. Joe's very good but he wasn't ready for big fights after his 1st credible challenger - Robin Reid (who'd been schooled a couple of times already) - took him to a SD.
Showtime's Jay Larkin said Joe wasn't ready for the big stage. He didn't really get it till 2006. Compare that with Kessler who's already impressed on HBO. In addition, we talk about the TV stations that wanted rid of Warren. Sky Sports, now ITV. Showtime can be added to that list. Because of promoters like Warren (and King) wanting to put on crappy fights, Showtime don't do promoter/fighter contracts any more!

Well when Ottke retired, Calzaghe had more championship experiance when all the new guys were becoming belt holders so he was more of a champ than them on experiance.
Plus most super middleweights kept winning a title like the WBC and then they constantly changed hands while Joe still has his title.
Therefore the regular and super collapsed into one.
It collapsed but Mundine didn't make his WBA reign exactly credible though.

Kessler looked quality the night he demolished Siaca at late notice to win the WBA title, i knew we were looking at a world class fighter there and then. I am going to stick my neck out and back him to take a unanimous decision over Calzaghe, in fact i am even going to go so far as to predict after an even first 8 or 9 rounds Kessler takes over and starts to bash Calzaghe up a bit.
Anyway no need to get excited at this stage, remember we can't take anything for granted in this business contracts or no contracts. I won't get excited until the bell rings and the American ref (it's bound to be a yank) ushers Kessler and Calzaghe in to begin round 1.

thing is, when Kessler was beating Siaca, Mundine & Lucas, who was Joe fighting? Salem, Veit (rematch) & Ashira. These were well below par for any title holder.
Mundine's title reigns aren't credible because they are for a nonsense belt. But I still think he outboxed Siaca enough to win a decision. He's a fine boxer who's now added some spite to his slickness and I'd take him over Jermain Taylor any day of the week.

That put up or shut up applies to Warren and Calzaghe too.
How does It apply when Frank and Joe accepted the offer?
Anyway found this from a guy called Team Calzaghe On ESB.
I can tell you this straight from the horses mouth. It wasn't allegedly who pushed the fight with Mikkel Kessler, it was Joe Calzaghe.
Warren may arrange this fight but it was Joe Calzaghe who initially pushed for it.
Speculating, I believe allegedly would have preferred Mikkel Kessler to have come to the UK or Joe's next opponent to be in the UK so allegedly could have promoted the fight and had Carl Froch box on Joe's undercard since Warren won the bid to promote Froch's next defense.
allegedly did specifically state he wanted Froch to box in the MEN Arena in September which is the exactly the same month Joe expects his bout with Kessler to take place.
Its no secret that the Sports Network (Warren) are desparate to promote and manage Carl Froch and what better way to publicise and promote Froch than have him on Joe Calzaghe's undercard.
Just speculating, I may be totally wrong or I may be right with my assumptions.
Regards,
John
