Only once has Mayweather been close to defeat and that was vs DLH.

bad post. your brain is clouded. Mayweather could easily be 1-1 but he was the A-lister and got the benefit of the doubt. Even the 2nd fight was close with Castillo.

I don't think dlh did so well. he was way bigger, in the weight class of his preference yet still he couldn't maintain anything.

Mayweather did fight the first fight with one hand for most of it.

there would be an excuse. castillo fought with one ankle and severe weight problems in fight two, which no doubt hindered his ability to cut the ring off and sustain attacks.

mayweather was negative as fvck in both those fights. his punching was not impressive and IMO he spent too much time tucking up for the apparent G.O.A.T!

sticknmove, I don't know whether you took my post as a knock to Hatton but that wasn't my intention. Hatton is and always has been an excellent champion. I was at the Tszyu fight, and thought he was great in applying a non stop approach to the fight, and that fight wont be forgotten. As far as i'm concerned Hatton can retire now and be satisfied with what he's achieved in this sport (cos i would love to achieve just a quater of what he has). What i'm saying is you can't fight a great in Tszyu, and then step down to fight boxers that most people don't consider to be in the same league as himself, and then turn around and say that a Junior Witter (WBC World Champion) is not good enough or known enough. This is the whole point of being one of the best fighters in the world (which in my opinion he is) you have to maintain it or retire.
You only have to look at fighters like Mayweather, ODLH, Pac even Taylor (Hopkins 2, Winky, Ouma, Spinks) to understand my point, they consistently fight the best.

It always brings a wry smile to my face when people bring these names up from the past that have some mythical status. The fact is how well were these guys considered in the context of their times within the time they actually fought. There is no doubting their credentials on paper. But it seems to me that people just lookup their records from boxrec and wax lyrical about how magnificent they were. I don't know maybe they were.

It is all well and good doing retrospectives on their careers years after they are gone. But where's the scrutiny over their careers that the age of video brings to bear?

I don't think there are any fighters who are leagues ahead of mayweather or Pacquaio. Both men would have been competitive in any era they fought in.
