re Witter. His right hook is something that can trouble Hatton. In fact, the ONLY thing to have overly troubled Ricky is a southpaw right hook...Thaxton, Magee, Collazo, Urango.
I would like to see it happen but can't imagine it happening. Witter slowing down and lacking workrate will hurt him if he ever gets a Hatton fight.

Witter may or maynot be on the slide but hes certainly always been a threat to Hatton. Hatton doesn't do well against faster fighters who use angles and box and has been kept away from them for the main part. Against Collazo Hatton had allot of problems and got caught flush quite often. Witter uses distance, timing, and skills better than Collazo and hits harder to boot.
Witter hasn't stopped world level guys BUT they have only come to survive so there were few openings to score counter power punches he likes to throw. We've seen how devastating Witter is against Euro level fighters

In a perfect world he'd get in with Witter next and knock him out before fighting Cotto or Floyd, but it won't happen.....

I would count out any chance now of Hatton v Witter - My view is Hattons workrate would be far too much for Witter to cope with - Hatton would end Witters career winning easily - If Hatton was American he would be invited by George Bush for tea at the Whitehouse and would have the whole American Nation on his side - Lets be honest as a Brit from Manchester that is never going to happen but I think a lot of American doubters have been won over by his latest performance - A friend I have who lives in Sparks Nevada who saw the fight says there are two fights they want to see, Mayweather and Cotto, and think Hatton can maybe beat both - He says Americans see Hatton as being in the same league as Hopkins at his best which is not bad as far as I am concerned - Sadly there are critics who are British never mind Yanks who have to spoil things by claiming Hatton fought a shot fighter in Castillo - Hatton won the first 2 rounds, I dont think anyone would disagree with that but I gave the third to Castillo who was getting into the fight by that round - Hatton had landed in the back of the rib cage a couple of times at least before that lethal punch that ended the fight - Castillo was in desperate trouble and ran out of range so he couldnt be hit again - Castillo couldnt go on, it was clear he was in so much pain - Castillo was in great shape for the fight and the brawling body puncher had met another who could hit even harder, FFS give Ricky full credit for beating a world class fighter at his own game.

I feel that theres alot of unanswered questions regarding Hatton and Witter.
Hatton wouldn't be Intimidated to go Into survival mode Vs Witter like most of Junior's victims. Hatton wouldn't mind walking through and taking Witter's shots on the chin either to get on the Inside and rough him up to the body.
Hatton has ad trouble walking through Southpaws though and Witter switch hits.
Witter In the southpaw stance could time Hatton as he comes In too and that might work well with Witter's one paced style. Witter throwing single shots puts more quality than quantity Into the shots too so he misses less.
Both have a good chin, Hatton's lack of head movement leaves him open to taking straight shots as he goes to get on the Inside.
Both fighting each other would answer these questions.
Hatton V Witter could end up like Hatton Vs Callazo where Hatton wins a close one due to styles, Castillo had that style that brought the crowd pleaser out In Hatton.

Good points but Witter likes a slower pace and tries to plant the big bomb which I agree he is good at - Hatton like Judah would force the pace which wouldnt suit Witter at all - Fighters who have in and out styles are best for Witter - He can land at any angle as a fighter comes in and if he catches you with the big one its all over - Yes I know Hatton tends to be a bit open but his tear up style wouldnt give Witter time or space to load up and land a big shot - He would take some less meaningful shots from Witter while doing damage, scoring points and winning rounds - Thats why I think Hatton beats Witter and exactly the same would apply with Calzaghe v Froch - Froch also likes a slower pace and room to load up - Anyway sadly neither of those fights looks likely to happen so opinions will likely go on for years to come.

Hatton is way to strong for Juior. Junior's power hasn't looked good in his last 5 outings (1 late stoppage win, couple of flash KD's over Ndou - but the majority of times the opponent hasn't been hurt). If Tszyu couldn't budge Hatton then neither can Witter.
What Witter might be able to do is catch Hatton with some nice looking shots as Hatton's defense is leaky. So Witter might win a few of the early rounds and look very impressive in doing so. However, I don't think he can sustain it. Malignaggi might on the other hand.
Witter is a sharp puncher as opposed to a strong fighter - I think in the clinches Hatton will be toying with him, throwing him of balance like a baby. There are three types of fighters who will give Hatton trouble... The Super Fit, which Witter isn't, the Super Fast (and I'm talking Mayweather and maybe Judah speed here) and the Super Strong. Witter is none of these IMO.

Why doesnt Hatton fight him then??. I agree that Witter isnt the fighter that he was 3 or 4 years ago, but Hatton is still ducking him!.... what does that tell you??.
And I'm not a Hatton hater, he seems like a nice guy but the Witter situation is just a joke... dont boast about being the best in the world when you havent even cleaned up your own backyard!...

No-one can really say the full score of that situation. So if Calzaghe fights and beats Kessler would you be pissed off cause he hasn't beaten Carl Froch. Then if he beats Froch would you be pissed off cause he hasn't beaten Catley?
I do want to see it happen, but I don't think Hatton will lose sleep if he doesn't. He's proven himself.
Witter continually talks about Hatton ducking, but I wish he would be more specific when it comes to his press conference. Lets see if Witter is prepared to take a pay cut to fight Hatton. Lets see if Wellington can do a post here that shows that Hatton is made an offer he cannot refuse.
Yes, that is harsh on Witter - but it is Hatton who is calling the shots and with some justification. He's beaten two pound for pounders. Witter, Toress, Malingagi, Mbaye would be like "challengers".
For all we know, Witter could be doing a Steve Collins in his call out of Roy Jones.

Witter has nothing like the workrate, or willingness to mix it up that Collazo has, I fail to see how this is a good comparison, merely because Witter is a switch hitter.
As for quality over quantity, Hatton stopped Castillo with one punch, and knocked Maussa out with one punch also, he has also stopped Kostya Tszyu.

I'll find the post soon. But I said Hatton would demolish him on four or five rounds. I waivered after the weigh in when JLC looked solid but it almost made up for my Etienne to outwork Tyson prediction. Not to mention the Austin to beat WK one too. Classic.
I dont think JLC was shot, but he was a spent force - slight difference.
On watching the fight for third time. Hatton murdered him.

I didn't say Witter had workrate. Callazo timed Hatton and used his southpaw stance to trouble Ricky.
He doesn't need to mix It up If times Hatton right when he tries to rough him up.
Well because Junior keeps mainly to single shots I mean theirs usually more quality In the punches because he's not over throwing and wouldn't miss as much If he threw In quantity like most fighters do.
Indeed he did stop those guys Tszyu quit though so technically Tszyu stopped himself.

may i add that not many agreed with me when i said hatton should brawl with castillo....the way i saw it was hatton has the phyical advantages , he didnt have the miles on the clock so by brawling he would be able to beat more effectively rather than the in and out boxing that only works against one-dimensional fighter like tackie and urango.

why???....he is dynamite at this weight , he is sharp , fast powerful , basically at his best...why put extra bulk on that will slow him down???
mayweather is 5,6 and bulked up but hatton is the stronger fighter here...also againt cotto i would come in near to 140 as possible , the cotto fight is the one between to young great fighters , the winner of this becomes the legend as both are in thier prime.
hatton is a major star...whether the american fans want to acknowledge this or not is thier problem.
i personally think that the americans are just pissed just now as most of the major stars in boxing now are non-american
i dont agree, the extra bulk would not slow him down, hatton weighs in at 140 and fights at about 150, he could weigh in at 147 and fight at 150 ish but without the dehydration and the weight making problems. welterweight is the way forward for hatton, he used lame excuses against collazo but hatton was ill prepared and it was short notice to fight at 147. with the correct notice, diet and training it will be no problem.
many of the all time greats have proved themselves outside their initial championship weight, hatton should prove the same.
we need him against PBF or DLH or Cotto .... then we can believe that hatton is great. at the moment hatton is good...but not great.

Right now Hatton is an elite level, top 10 pound for pounder which is good given that he's in his prime and has earned his new stage.
I don't have any problem with your view Rhino but an alternative would be staying in his own class and turning back anyone and everyone at 140. There is an interesting piece on BS.com detailing what Tszyu, Cervantes, Pryor did predominatly at 140 to become Hall of Famers.
But obviously, a fighter like Hopkins gets fair stick for waiting for welters instead of agonising over whether to fight bigger men. The whole farce of calling out nearly every 168 and 175 champ but not making the leap till he was 41...
Right now, if it isn't broken, don't fix it. I want to see him at his best after the previous two fights. Wemay be asking too much of any fighter to, from now on, have a superfight every fight.

Many of them also didn't, Marvin Hagler for instance.
Yes, perhaps you are right, perhaps it was down to poor preparation, but I cannot help but worry, that someone who relies on physical dominance and workrate as much as Hatton does, will find it hard to move up the weights.
I would love to see the Cotto fight though, it's one of the most exciting fights out there. Unless Hatton did the unthinkable, and battered Mayweather, chances are a fight between the two would be boring as hell.

I hate the belief that fighters need to move up in weight. What would people rather for example the Mosley who looked awesome at lightweight and should have looked great at light-welter or the one who ended up at light-middle? I think there is a lot to be said for the way Hagler stayed middleweight champ taking on all comers. I understand fighters who chase the $ and do it for bigger challenges but I would much rather they stayed at the weight where they perform to the best of their abilities. I would much rather see a Hatton full of energy, bullying opponents at light-welter than I would see him giving up his natural advantages at welterweight.
Having said all that I love the way Floyd is moving up but not adding extra weight for the hell of it, coming in well under the limit.

Castillo was a great win I don't doubt It but how Is Castillo P4p?

No but Witter has better power, speed, timing, footwork and movement when compared to Collazo.

Castillo was certainly a top 10 pound for pounder through 2005 and into 2006. He beat Lazcano, Casamayor (now Lineal lightweight champion), Julio Diaz (then was vacated IBF champ & is IBF champ again now), and lost to Corrales in a fight he would have won if it was kept in the rules, then got his own back by fvcking with the rules himself (in essence, Castillo & Corrales came off as equals). With the weight disgrace, plus his pedigree, the move to 140 was one that many were demanding. It took the luster off him, but JLC's done a lot in his career at the elite level.
