While doing a lot of research, I found that vast majority

faced competitive opposition.

Chuck, the one thing that stops me going for these talent rich older eras is that many black fighters were forzen out during these times. No doubt that the 20s were a great era to have lived through, and not just in terms of boxing.

>>>barry...there is this new amazing stuff called sunscreen...works wonders.....but I found out the hard way that it does you no good just sitting in it's bottle.<<<

I know. Plus after I had a rather large skin cancer cut out a couple of months ago I said that sunblock would be a new best friend. I went fishing, so in anticipation I forgot about the sunblock...that is until around 4:00 P.M., when it was too late and I was already blistered! I guarantee from now on Sunblock will be a good friend! I had forgotten how miserable a very bad sunburn really is!

Ezzard- During the latter part of the 1920s, black fighters
started coming back in a big way. One of the reasons
for the revival is that blacks were moving in large
numbers from the South to large population centers in
the North and, to a lesser extent, the Pacific Coast,
where many of the most important boxing venues
were located. Notice that many black fighters of the era
were born in the South, but moved elsewhere when
they were still children.

Greatest impact on the public was probably while Dempsey held the belt... I would say at that time Boxing was the number one sport in the U.S. Dempsey was as big a name as Babe Ruth. From Dempsey to Ali the HW champion was an international Icon.

I know this is a different spin than the "talent rich" eras which is the basic topic. But Boxing has really dropped off the map as a mainstream sport. But during those times it was at a pinnacle.
