good comparison. when he's on the back foot and boxing on the slow retreat he reminds me of alan minter. that jab....its suddenly come into its own. i can only put it down to confidence. confidence is the difference between decent and very good.

Lynes v Oluegun could be the best domestic fight out there at 140. Lynes has come back well and he didn't do badly against Witter for the WBC title.

Lynes v Bami would be good fight next.

They fought for the European title yes?

Lynes was excellent last night, if he has added some 'pop' to his armoury and it wasn't just indicative of a weight drained Muttley then he could be a force for a while yet.

Excellent performance by Colin Lynes last night, very intelligent, focused and sharp. I still doubt he is real World class but there is good money to be made at European level and I wish him well.

Muttley looked flat and maybe this is a weight issue, but even if Muttley was in top form I would still pick the Lynes of last night to outbox him.

Great show by Lynes, had the equal of Muttley inside and a great weapon in the jab... I know a lot of people rated Muttley based on his power - I think this shows that Lynes could take on a World Class opponent soon and do well

Yep that was textbook stuff by Lynes, clinical finish. Muttley went out on his shield there, thowing bombs as he was caught & finished. Showed real sportmanship after as well, class act both.

Mutley looked over trained in there last night to me.

He is a huge light welter, but has spent his career at this weight. His biggest success came at 10st 7, but he only moved up because the opportunity was there, not because he needed to.

Having said that maybe his future should be at 10st 7..

Mutley has never had the fastest hands but he can box WAY better then he did last night - he is a very tidy counter puncher when on form.

Many people are writing him off as a crude swinging slugger on here, it would seem and he really isnt. It looked to me like he left his fight in the gym and he can rebuild and will be back.

Fair play to the Mut mob for taking his defeat in the proper manner too - they were far better behaved then when Anderson came to Brum..

All credit to Lynes for taking this opportunity and making the most of it - good luck to him!

His jab is superb but his lack of variety would let him down against the elite of the division. Still, he can make some good coin as a double champion.

whats the matter with these midlanders? excuses, excuses. mutley was schoooooled in his own backyard by a fellow who stepped in with 10 days notice. the talk was mutley was going to be too strong, his punches too powerful. not only that he was a deft boxer into the bargain!!
"superb jab" you said, it takes more than a good jab to do what lynes has done in the last 6 weeks.

Lynes can still get better, so I wouldn't put it past him winning a world title in what is currently a fairly weak 140 division. I don't think he's world class, but the more I think about it the more I see him having a decent chance against M'Baye or even Witter in a rematch. If he starts throwing solid right hooks on top of that left jab and throwing more uppercuts inside then he'll be tough to beat at Euro level at least.

Think Maloney said In somewhere like Boxing News that Ajose will have a Brit passport by the end of this year and he was going to try and push him as a mandatry then for the Brit and EBU titles.

Alright Harry, we all know you have a hard on for Lynes...you have made that quite clear in recent times.

I didnt give an excuse for Mutley's lackluster showing, just my thoughts on what could have happened in his prep. I could be wide of the mark, they are just my thoughts.. It reminded me of Harris v Maussa in terms of a fighter who is big for the division making the weight with some to spare and then going on to offer a tepid performance.

As for Lynes, dont get carried away Harry my old fruit, he has turned in two excellent performances back to back but he lacks the variety of shot to make it on the world scene - the top boys would work him out and nullify his rapier like left.

well terry, you may be right about the top fellas in the division, but what amazes me, having followed colin for so long, is why/how at the age of 29 he suddenly makes the leap from good domestic to good enough for a european title and a world challenge. i missed the interview after the mutley fight (my dad tells me he said he feels he could walk thru a brick wall at the moment) and havent spoken to him for some time either. i'm not a trainer and i would love to know how this improvement has happened after the - albeit understandable - catastrophe of the lenny daws loss.
can you explain it? maybe paul cook is a genius after all

Lynnes did the job well enough and the result is very good on paper, but you're kidding yourself if you think that was the real Mutley. He was to coin the phrase "dead at the weight". He looked in great shape, but simply had no energy on the night.

What surprised me was how long it took Colin to work out how little he had in front of him. Bami's strength at 10st would have chopped Mutley down in half the time, but that's all about styles etc.

i dont expect you to give any credit to lynes butch. after all, you still think colin was 100% against your boy daws :D

"any credit" .... well you've tripped yourself up there immediately.

What, the expression "sauce being good for the goose" ? I'm referring to the fact that you pissed all over Daws' win over Lynes siting Colin wasn't himself that night, well same applies here, Mutley wasn't himself. Here's another expression for you "you can't have your cake and eat it"

thing is butch, mutley had ample time to get himself in the shape of his life for a european title match up. the biggest fight of his life. colin had to take the daws fight or be stripped of his title and was as sick as a dog getting in the ring. so its not the same situation at all really is it?

By Top Boys who do you mean?

Gavin Rees, the WBA champion. Soulymane Mbaye the former WBA champion... Junior Witter the WBC champion (who couldn't figure him out at all... and Lynes is looking better now).

Think Lynes would start favourite vs two of these and has a chance vs the other.

Hatton, Malignaggi and a few others might by too much - but there are certain "top boys" who Lynes has a chance with.

i agree lynes on present form would be trouble for all bar hatton in britain, i expect he will fight a european next, branco is mandatory, good fight if it happens

agree. the printer from hornchurch is definately worth a pop at anyone bar hatton at the moment - and rees is world title chance for any good jabber at 140

Branco is poor in World terms but is a seasoned European title holder and has name recognition in the States..

Im happy for Gavin Rees but if Lynes doesnt get a title shot then there is something wrong with Boxing
