The champs - apart from Hatton - have shown themselves to be pretty fallible. Mbaye losing to Rees, Witter barely better than Lynes, etc etc. Surely when Khan has developed his style he'd be in with a chance.

Is it me or Light Welterweight looking a bit threadbare at the moment? Seems the once hottest division has thinned out significantly.

Thaxton would bash young Kahn

Thaxton had the offer of the Katsidis fight (before Earl) the Khan Fight before Limond and agreed terms for both. Then he dissappered to Hennessey and was never seen again. Did he forget to tell you that bit Wellington?

Would you say that a match against Thaxton for Khan say in the next 6 months, is....

A) A risky, but potentially fruitful bit of matchmaking, which Khan could come through and prove a big point.

B) An insane bit of matchmaking only a fool would make right now, which would result in a bad beating?

I would definately say...one of the above

I'd say its (A), i like Thaxton , and was very happy that after all this time he has won the British title.
But he's a boxer who has never beaten anyone above british level, so if Khan is to push on, then this is a fight of a high profile but very winnable for him.

Exactly, if he has any pretensions of genuine world class then Thaxton has to be taken and beaten. Protecting your fighter is one thing but he needs to learn and improve if he is to eventually be a world champion. Learning fights like against an experienced British champion are paramount to his progression.

So an element of risk is needed and a victory over Thaxton will gain him necessary experience and raise his profile.

Personally, I wouldn't put Khan in with Thaxton now, I'd give him another couple, maybe three fights to work out the kinks that got him flattened last time out.

I think it's possible Khan could beat Thaxton now, but it would be a terribly big gamble, because Thaxon is a monster at lightweight, and a hurtful puncher who has good timing and execution of his punches. One mistake like that, and Khan may find himself unable to get up.

A few more fights down the road, could be a very different story, but they need to be decent fights, no point fighting three mugs that don't present challenges, Khan needs fights which continue to challenge him at this stage.

SPORTS NETWORK STATEMENT

Recent reports in the media have said that Amir Khan will fight Graham Earl on December 8 in London.

These reports are premature and inaccurate and are to be disregarded.

Khans next officially scheduled fight is on October 6th at the Nottingham Arena against an opponent to be confirmed.

No further dates or venues featuring Khan have been announced by Sports Network and any announcements will be made by way of press release or press conference.

Lets hope it does, its a guarenteed cracker. I'd have a few quid on JT to pull off the upset by late KO, with a backfoot Ingle style performance (I've had a vision)

I would say that fight could be an instant classic
I do agree that Thaxton would edge it, Katsidis is a bit of a one trick pony.
He seems to load up and fade as the fight goes into the later rounds.
But he's entertaining and so is Thaxton.

You sure about that, Thaxton is an absolute monster of a man at 135.

Katsidis would finish Thaxon within 6 rounds, He gave a great performance in his last fight and was still throwing hard punches in the late rounds even though he couldnt see.

I see what your saying about Thaxton, and he is a big strong lightweight, but Katsidis is a big strong lightweight as well, and i think he's a level above Thaxton in all departments.

Would be nice to see Thaxton rewared for a long career with a shot at one of the big titles though. Unfortunatly the WBA/WBC titles are pretty tied up at the mo with planned matches.

Katsidis is a very strong aggressive fighter with terrific hands and is a devastating combination puncher, but he can be hit and he can be hurt.

He was in a right old state in his last fight, he caught loads of shots in there, and Thaxton is a tricksy old bugger.

Now I'm not saying Thaxton would win per se, but I he's in with a shout if he could nail Katsidis on the way in. Thaxon has underrated boxing skills, and at 135 he's like a bull.
