Mick Kessler Is a half Englishman at most.
YEs but Lewis was born to a Jamaican mother and boxed for Canada as an amateur.... he is about as English as McDonalds is Scottish.
And thanks for clearing my own doubts about my nationality - I am pleased to hear that using your logic I am Spanish, something I really never realised....

Does learning to box elsewhere matter though?
I could learn In France and I'd still be English.
Even If I lived and grew up In somewhere else but born here I could only consider my nationality to where I was born. Just the way I feel.

Mikkel Kessler underwent a 3 point health check including MRI scan, physical and blood work tests for Hepatitus ahead of his millenium clash for the WBO title with Joe Calzaghe.
http://www.Livefight.com are pleased to disclose everything has gone well and further health checks shall remain part of the ongoing camp, especially during spetember's hard sparring.

Isn't It too early to be sparring? Fair enough he's up for the fight but overdoing It could cost him maybe.

Doesn't like fighting southpaws. Gets in lots of sparring. Sparred 300 rds for Beyer.

Mikkel sparred Teymor and Tatevosyan for Beyer - one after the other for weeks..

Is Kessler anymore than an orthodox Euro fighter though?
Even Joe said It in his South Wales Argus Column.
Does Kessler even have head movement?

by Autobarn
If you can't see Kessler's qualities then there's something wrong with you. On the subject of head movement, has Calzaghe ever ducked, slipped or avoided a right hand. Max, that's a really small minded view of Kessler; very disappointing. You'd think with what he's achieved you'd be ablew to recognize quality. I suppose Joe's just an arm punching flailer who can't put weight into a shot.

by Max Molyneux
Not at all small minded.
I can't see how he's more than a typical orthodox European. Joe tucks his chin In, has countered/ parried or avoided. Kessler mostly covers up and can be made uncomfortable on the backfoot when he has to cover, Andrade just Isn't as good as Joe to exploit that. When Joe overwhelms him on the ropes he's fucked.
Right hands hit Joe but not as many as made out. Joe has a great chin to take them anyway.
I don't doubt what he's achieved and I do say Kessler would beat anyone else at super middle, but as a threat to Calzaghe the hype Is overrated. He won 2 belts, great but one was limited and one didn't come to win.

Ricky Hatton: "I've been taking alot of criticsm for blowing up in weight between fights, but to be fair I have had alot on my plate recently"

It made me laugh anyway.
I saw some clips of Ricky doing an after dinner speech and he was very witty IMO

Kessler is in good shape already. How that guy makes super middle, I'll never know, his arms look huge.

He must do mostly technique and touch sparring Max, no chance of him burning out pre-fight.
Most Europeans do Terry, I never personally got 'hard sparring' on top of roadwork and a heavy training scheduele before a fight like a lot of the yanks and the British tend to do.
I'm sure there are a million condesending voices to it but I think speed sparring is as good a way to sharpen up.

In fairness JC and FW accepted the bid that Kesslers promoter (whatshisface) put in to fight in Denmark, but I think there was a strong element of bluff-calling going on

stereotyping fighters by their nationality is not clever. Not helpful in the slightest.
You ought to be looking for the flaws in Joe. Even in his best ever performance he was wanging away with NO GUARD. His combos were exhilarating, but come on, he doesn't have a defense.
I'm saying this and I'll say it again. Joe has done well but now ppl know how he fights. He shocked many ppl, but once someone figures him out, he's through. Joe will push a fighter to their limits, but if they can find the right distance, make him miss his cuffs and pounce on him, if they can minimise the flurries and drop in hard counters, he, my friend, is F U C K E D.
Eight shoeshine shots can do a fair amount of damage in close - at the very least they can fluster a man. However, if you're smart, if you can move to the right positions, one cuff doesn't mean shit. He needs the first cuff to power the next one and the one after that. You BREAK THE FLOW and he won't be teeing off. He'll be overreaching.
This is the fight where he has to show something different. At 35 (and he looked old late in the Bika fight) and with those hands, his time has come.
**Would a 28 yo Calzaghe risk his WBO belt against an unbeaten champ away from home? You don't need me to answer that. Kessler's had perfect practise for this fight. He beat Mundine in Oz -a very good away from home win. And he coped with Andrade's pressure in a physically demanding fight.**

Joe was saying he'd go to Denmark too though.

Did I meantion Kessler's nationality? I said he was an orthodox euro. He doesn't look that much different to guys like Mick Jennings.
Well I acknowledge the right hands that hit Joe thats a flaw. Yep he was showboating with no guard against Lacy at moments but he did have defence(tucking his chin In close for example) and Inside game. Kessler has no Inside game. His hands were high against Manfredo and he kept on jab well being patient.
Joe does keep his hands high and doesn't lack defence, he was outclassing Lacy In one of the best boxing beatings ever. He even got a point deducted for some smack on the back thing too. Why use one performance and pick moments where he showboated?
Joe can also time Kessler with those In and out steps and a southpaw like Joe can jab his way Inside and pressure Kessler onto the backfoot and overwhelm him with those flurries. He timed Lacy coming In and he can against Kessler, he doesn't just always do a Hatton and recklessly charge In although he has done that.
In close? Kessler never has fought close In fights I've seen.
Looked old against Bika? Bute looked shit too, Bika and most fighters would look shit against someone who fights dirty and spoils. Froch
looked shit against Barney because he was spoiling. Are you not just using the fact he's 35 as a convenient excuse? 35 Is only old for guys like Hatton who go through wars and recklessly mess their weight around.
Mundine handpicks fighters and works his way Into WBA paper shots and Andrade Is not a proven contender. Joe Is leagues above Andrade and Is much better at pressuring a fighter onto the ropes and overwhelming them ad has the right style to beat Kessler. You and most said Mundine was timid and a different fighter now. Only similarities to Joe and Tony Is they have fast hands.
After Kessler who else do we jump on and say Joe will lose to them.
Calzaghe doesn't do flurries like Manny Pac, Calzaghe's not one dimensional like Manny.

When who fights Froch?
Both Joe and Mikkel would give him a boxing lesson. He needs a champ like Berrio to win a belt.

Froch is bigger than Joe and at least as big as Kessler.
I'd never bet on anyone trying to give someone like Froch a 'lesson' in boxing. He's not even been pushed remotely close yet.
Too many angles, too much power.

Power helped Jeff Lacy and David Tua a lot didn't It?
His angle Is having a poormans Roy Jones guard and defence. Calzaghe and Kessler have why better chins than Magee.

We'll just have to disagree mate.
All said and done Froch will fight the winner hopefully...
...unless Calzaghe vacates the WBC if he wins.
