Well done Junior!
I'm happy to be wrong about Witter. He's shown he has got another gear and when he is focussed he is a genuine threat to anyone at 140.
Sounds like a terrific performance, and he has done himself a massive favour by taking on Harris in that fashion, let's hope the yanks got to see this fight somehow.

He would have had Corley too if he hadn't gone into safety first mode.
Maligianni is probably the sensible fight for Witter now. Unification, exposure to the US, hopefully at MSG, could be big for him.
If (and I mean if, as others have said Maligianni shouldn't be under-rated by any stretch) Witter could score an impressive KO on that stage it really would make the clamour for Hatton to face him almost impossible to resist.
I just have this feeling that Junior would go out there, massive fight night for him and stink the place out again....
But for now it's all positive, well done Junior

Witter could take Malignaggi on points, but I don't think anyone can KO Malignaggi - If Cotto couldn't do it, then no-one can IMO.

Yeah, Cotto even made Malignaggi's jaw look like it had a giant golf ball sticking out of it and he still finished the fight strong.

Typical Guyanian fighter? Hes the only Guyanian fighter I've ever heard. Are you getting Guyana and Ghana mixed up

Well, I got that one completely wrong. Not only did I fancy Harris to nick it, I was convinced it was going to be a stinker. Happy to be proven wrong on both counts. I thought for a moment, after the 6th, that we were going to have another N'Dou performance on our hands from Witter. But he regrouped well, and found a beauty to end it. Well done Junior.

He works for 12 rounds, has a lot of heart and is fairly slick himself. His only main weaknesses are that he doesn't have much power and his chin is open for counters when he throws punches, but seems to have a decent enough chin to compensate.
N'dou got dropped heavily early against Witter and was on the way to being taken out....but unfortunately Witter broke his hand when flooring N'dou the second time and obviously the fight became far harder after that.
Malignaggi did not take bombs off Cotto all night long either....he took punishment in the moments when a totally dead at the weight Cotto would mount brief maybe 30 seconds attacks before having to step back and conserve energy. The amount of credit that Malignaggi gets for lasting the distance with a weight drained Cotto amazes me. Malignaggi got his arse kicked and his face f*cked up by a depleted opponent and its supposed to be impressive or something??

No doubt about it Witter has shut up all the doubters, including me - He was winning on points and the KO made sure of it - GREAT PERFORMANCE - He is still as quick and sharp as he ever was, he just hasnt shown it of late - I waited for Hatton to be mentioned but was pleasantly surprised when it didnt happen - Maybe their gameplan is to not mention Hatton and keep claiming Witter is the top man at the weight hoping Hatton will bite - Maybe he will if things dont work out against Mayweather - Malinaggi is their target now and if Witter can give the same sort of performance, Witter wins - I think its a bit OTT to say Witter would stop Hatton - Hatton is way above Harris so you wouldnt see Witter looking as good as he did against Harris - You wouldnt see the same first round with neither fighter really putting in a lot of effort - Ricky would go for it straight away giving Witter a really hard time - As good as Witter has proved he is, Hatton is still the best - If Hatton beats Mayweather, I think he will go for Cotto, for a lot more money than fighting Witter - If he loses maybe Hatton/Witter could happen, I certainly hope so.

even though Malignaggi was outweighed by a fair amount (they wouldn't let anyone know the day of the fight weights), Cotto was sluggish and weird looking and couldn't do much work. Cotto looks really weird and fleshy and sluggish these days. Not a fighter's body at all. He's abused his body getting down to 140 methinks. Malignaffi does get too much credit. Shit, Cotto gets too much credit for winning a regional bout vs Judah.

Great to see British boxers doing so well. This year we've had Hatton one punch KO'ing Castillo, Witter one punch KO'ing Harris, Maccarinelli dominating Braithwaite, Rees beating M'Baye.
I'm really hoping Haye demolishes Mormeck.

Fair comment.
Still Witter has great one punch power so you couldn't definitively rule that possibility out.

witter was good tonight, very good in fact, witter v hatton would NOT be an easy fight to call.
I do not know what you are on about, the name is Albert, I will allow you to call me Bertie if you wish.
Just a little correction for you its spelt Hennessy not as you have put it.
For you to say Hatton v Witter is a close fight to call is a big statement to make. On what basis do you make such a claim?
ha ha..thanks spud ....

Please call me Bert.
You mention in your post why should Witter move up a weight as he is so strong at 140. So why was there pressure for Hatton to do so?
Will there be the same clamour for Witter to seek the big fights as there is with Hatton? If not why not?

Witter would certainly fight Hatton, Mayweather, Cotto, Mosley at 147 of that I'm sure

I think he is suggesting that witter get back in the ring for December 8th to be part of the sky hatton bill which is not a bad idea. Don't know if the Paul Malignaggi fight could be organised that fight, also has anyone seen torres (the WBO champ) fight? what kind of a challenge would he represent?

Hopefully they can get Malignaggi, that would be a big fight and 1 Junior can win.
Torres is made for Witter, come forward, a little slow, poor defense, big puncher.
If they could get Cassamoya, Castillo or DHOPs they would all sell to US TV.

I reckon Olusegun and D Hopkins.
No point with the EBU champ, as it's Lynes. Had Bami not been stripped there may have been a Bami fight for the Sky Sports viewers.
US TV won't want Witter, as they have a pathological hate of him due to one bad fight when he was a novice pro. So that makes Malignaggi harder to make.

Maybe they'll change their mind if they see his last fight, plus he has the WBC and made 2 defenses - unification fight on the cheap and if Witter wins a unified champ for not much per fight - sounds sellable to me

Could be . I don't like the idea. IMO it's a bad move. Go to New York for a tactical bout vs homeboy on a DiBella show = they're just asking for a points loss, quite likely a robbery one.

Malignaggi in New York is the obvious fight to make. The Yanks will be hoping that both Salita and Malignaggi can win their fights and then make a unification fight that would be massive in NY sometime next year.

Yes but Witter needs big names and Malignaggi seems to be the biggest at 140 now Hattons left.
Theres pity theres no chance of a Rees fight because a WBC-WBA British unification would be bound to draw and would be pretty easy into the bargain
Should Witter have stayed with Warren?
Posted: 08 Sep 2007, 12:39
by jamesmcdonnell
Definetly not.
The relationship between Warren and the Ingles was bad, and Frank had decided that he wasn't really interested in Witter's career any more. It was the right time to move, and I think Warren was glad to see the back of Witter to be honest.

Fantastic win by Junior Witter. He was in control of the fight though he seemed to let Harris back in it after the knockdown(s) in the 4th.
Junior looked to have power by the bucketloads and his chin stood up well to some heavy shots.
"I slip, I hit and I hurt" great quote from Junior and spot on.
Harris was his No.1 mandatory so a Unification could be done next.
Superb left hook to finish the fight.
