Does not matter what he has done in boxing whether he be a good trainor or not , if he goes on live TV and says something wrong then he should be quick enough in return to put it right . Just because you have produced talent does not mean you are untouchable .
Lets not forget him barracking Carl Thompson at ringside on TV with Johnny Nelson after Carl had just defended his title and was enjoying his moment in the sun before Brendon hijacked it.
I am sure he would not of been happy if Billy Graham and Rick had gatecrashed there ringside interview on Friday night.

Boxrec is a great forum who like to keep to boxing, thats why ALBERT enjoys being here.
you want to watch that, writing in the third person.... you'll never catch MIKEE doing that.

Fair Play to you mate, you defend the bloke all you want, it just sounded like a bit of a fatwa, and I have an in-built problem with moral pronouncements, lol
:TU: :TU:

Respect to you and the minority who choose to keep to boxing.

Good points there.

But, Boxing as I have already highlighted is about banter, abuse, and doing everything and anything to highlight the sport - Nothing Ingle stated did too much harm did it?

Take it another way - there may have been some watching Witters fight and the after fight interviews that heard Ingle mention BOXING NEWS, next time they are in the newsagents they might just see it and buy it.

Another point - Boxing News is a magnificent publication which caters for all forms of boxing fans - but do they get everything right - of course not.

That's a big, big, big call. Just a couple of decades ago, Bobby Neill moulded the hot-headed, cut-prone Alan Minter and the sloppy, moody Lloyd Honeyghan into cool, sharp operators.
Into undisputed world champions.
Ingle has produced domestic and world champions over a number of generations and over a huge amount of years. I must confess I do not know anything about Bobby Neill but surely it does not compare with Ingle.

Someone of your boxing knowledge could write down on this thread the huge amount of champions Brendan Ingle has produced.

There are a lot of trainers who are very good in their own right who have a huge amount to give to the sport, but my argument is other than perhaps Brian Hughes who else can compete with Ingle.
Terry Lawless produced countless more champs than Ingle. Countless.

Is there a website for such things?

In 2006, RING magazine had him the 5th best trainer at the time

Of the top of my head, Ingle had Nelson, Hamed, Herol Graham, Esham Pickering for a time, Witter, Ryan Rhodes

Who else?

just remembered Pele Reid i think, and Herbie Hide

Incidentally Spud, like Ingle, I'm no fan of the modern Boxing News. Claude Abrams has had a child and been sucked into Gordon Brown's corporate Britain and just wants a 'safe' mag these days: no hard news, nothing racy. Tony Connolly has walked.
The 'trade' mag just ain't the same anymore.

Harry was one of the outstanding writers in boxing during my lifetime. He was also not afraid to take on the promoters when necessary. If they were out of order, he said so. And that was why the fighters loved him, because although he had never pulled on the gloves to my knowledge, he was one of them.
He was a carouser par excellence with a wonderful sense of humour and an extremely perceptive eye when it came to the judging of a fight. To me, Boxing news has not been the same since his departure. Perhaps if they had made Bob Mee the editor ......

Lawless trained champs like Charlie Magri, Ralph Charles, Jimmy Flint, Kirkland Laing, Jim Watt, Maurice Hope, Frank Bruno (guided to world title by F rank Warren but European champ with Lawless), Ray Cattouse, John L. Gardner, Mark Kaylor, John H. Stracey, Jim McDonnell, Gary Mason, Neville Meade, Jimmy Batten, Horace Notice, Derek Angol, Jimmy Anderson, Johnny Waldron...

Fantastic list and puts things into perspective to some extent. However, I know you will respect what Brendan has done too - he has never had a huge amount of talent to work with in comparison with others. Plus, Terry Lawless did get more than the odd helping hand promotionally, if you know what I mean.

And despite our former disagreements bennie, have to say you are spot on about the current Boxing News and well done for saying so.

Shame TC has gone if that is the case - the feisty little bugger is an excellent journo and wasn't afraid to call it as he saw it. Hence the exit, no doubt.

Have to agree an outstanding list.

I apologise for my ignorance and I hope I get my next question worded in the correct manner - did Lawless produced these champions from fresh or did these fighters go to him because he had produced champions and some thought if I go there he will make me one too?

Ingle has produced many of his fighters from being amateurs right the way through to professional champion status.

Didn't Harry Mullan and Mikey Duff have a big fall out in the early eights because Harry had critisized the quality of some of Duffs bills? Resulting in Boxing News staff being banned from Duff promotions for a while?

Perhaps I am wrong, but thus far the only poster who I have seen having a proper dig at Ingle is "E" - and thats not about his training ability. E never said he didn't respect him.

Saying he got something wrong is not necessarily "having a go".

I did say that some of his ringside rants have been offensive - for me I did not like his rant when Carl Thompson had his night of glory - I thought it showed a complete lack of respect to a champion who had just fought his heart out. I can see why some might have labelled it "Banter" but surely those who saw it as Banter can see why others thought he pushed the mark too far.

Stating that someone has claimed something that is wrong is NOT saying "I don't like him" or "I don't respect him" - just stating the inaccuries that Brendan made.

Although I don't know him personally, I have a similar respect and admiration for Barry McGuigan as Albert does for Ingle... But if he gets things wrong - I'll mention it. Doesn't mean I hold him any lower than I did before he mentioned it.

As for the arguement that it might boost Boxing News sales - maybe, all publicity is good publicity etc.... but if say one of the "Dragons Den" people said "Oh the Financial Times said the Dollar was going to rise and look its fallen" - and I didn't know that the FT had got the predictions right, would I buy the FT - no. Why would I buy the Boxing News if I think they cannot call a fight for toffee?

Ingle has done a good job with a lot of fighters also does a lot of anti racist work which is realy good for the sport. Not all his fighters fight hands down though Isn't Matthew Barney one of his.

I would like Carl Froch to spend some time with him I think it would be good for his stle.

No-one is really disputing this (or at least shouldn't be), John Keeton is another. Ingle fighters do know the basics.

Think Carl is doing very well where he is, sometimes better not to rock the boat. I'm sure Hamed would have done better with only Oscar Suarez than both Suarez and Steward - that only confuses you.

I'm not sure anyone has really criticised Brendan Ingle the man or the trainer - although maybe I've skimmed read a bit too much. All that was really pointed out is that Ingle got his information wrong and Boxing News did call the fight correctly. I think a point that maybe needed making to those that were not aware of the Boxing News pick, nobody has made a "great deal" of it. Unfortuantely, I haven't read, or might have mis-read, where Albert claims many of the forum members "as normal" have taken things further than things should be. For me the only reason that the topic has digresed a little is cause of Alberts original post.
