Witter should fight Maliginnnainnnnniiiii and then earn what he can, if hatton is still scared, f him.

Though im not going to bother talking bout KT and Castillo being legends im glad we agree that paulie would be a good fight...

Torres would be good but I imagine Jnr would have to travel
Being a legend means nothing.

Ali is a Legend - but I would pick Danny Williams to beat him today...just!

:TU:
LOL, well KT had beaten Mitchell and Castillo had beaten Ngoudjo but thats not ur point..imagine you would be less vitriolic over a pint... :D

Witter under performs against boxers and Malignaggi would box Witter's ears off in my opinion :)
I tend to agree with you - look how much Witter struggled with Lynes when Lynes boxed on the back foot - Witter is a natural counter-puncher and needs the other guy to take chances for him to be sucessful ala Harris.

He still beat the guy who got ripped off against URANGO!

Yep, the one who Hatton hugged!

So, the belt Haton won may as well have fallen out of his bottom.

The only fights that are bigGER than Harris at 140 are Malignanni and Hatton (possibly Rees over here), so hes not got many BIG fight options.
I agree its a shame that Witter wasn't really on the world scene (ranked yes, but not terms of opponents and credibility outside of the UK) when the likes of Mayweather, Gatti, Tszyu, Mitchell etc were around.

However, I think there are more than 2 bigger fights for Witter than Harris.

Castillo is still a name - of course that would make US TV.

Torres

Many of the Lightweights - Casamayor, the three Diaz's, Freitas?, Morales?

Maybe even Jaun Urango - as much as I don't rate him, had a few TV fights in the states and his Hatton wins over Castillo holds him in a much bigger light.

D Hopkins is another, maybe even top prospect Lamont Peterson.

The Tim Bradley prospect seems to be going places, his record is very good. Not sure how much exposure he is having... Not alot I'd imagine cause I cannot remember seeing him fight. He is probably a fighter (just going off his record) I would have prefered to have seen over Harris, but don't think it would have done as good for Witters legacy/career at this moment.

Note, not saying all of these fights that I prefered to see over Harris - but they are all bigger fights IMO.

Although LOSING the purse bids is fundamental.... These fights have got to be staged in the states on a Saturday night. I'm sure the Harris fight would have been televised in both the UK and the states - maybe not the premier boxing channel, but someone.

Malignaggi is money, Malignaggi is respect and Malignaggi would enable him to fight some other big names, not just talk about Hatton for the next Two years..

Witter was awsome on Friday night, he needs to strike while the Iron is hot, he needs to make his own career path and forget Hatton, who cares if Paulie aint the reincarnation of Marcel Cerdan, he aint appaling to watch...its a big fight

And the main reason Hatton wont fight Witter is because he doesnt want Junior making money...if Junior has his own money then what will stop Hatton fighting him??
I don't think its a case of Hatton being charitable by giving Witter the fight, its more a case of Hatton stepping upto the plate and fighting the best 140lbers.

Witters not dependent on Hatton, he has his forged his own excellent career.

We strongly disagree on the reasons why Hatton won't fight Witter, him not wanting to give Junior money is a feeble excuse, its piss poor for boxing and portrays Hatton in a petty spiteful light. Its a good job Liston didn't mind Ali having a payday.....
Cant disagree that it doesnt paint Hatton in a very good light..he openly admits its spite, I just believe him, thats all..

Witter careers time sensetive, hes 33...and until Friday night people thought he was getting past it..get a big fight NOW
Witter simply doesn't bring enough to the table to make it happen in the foreseeable future. Doncaster was half empty, and it's his home town. Yes Junior is talented, but its an understatement to say he isn't box office. US TV doesn't want him, and that means there is no chance of the fight being made, unless Mayweather gives Hatton such a caning that his own marketability is severely damaged. At the mo, Rick n Ray are dancing to HBO's tune, and Witter is not on their aggenda.

I would imagine Witter would go after Gavin Rees who seems the weakest of the champions. Isn't it strange how fighters come out of the wilderness and are eager for "big fights" when a weak champion comes along?

The point i am making refers to Dmitriy Salita, protected so much he makes fellow Jewish fighter Roman Greenberg look like he is on a roll to world domination. Salita has not even hinted at a step up as he continues to knock over gimme opponents, however as soon Gavin Rees appears on the scene he throws his name into the hat. Rees is fairly mediocre as world champions go and all of a sudden the quiet Salita is quoting he wants his world title shot and Rees is the man he wants, he is ready to step up etc

What a coincidence...he wasn't ready to step up when there were stronger champions holding the belts. He aint calling out Witter or Malignaggi. Anyway it's annoying me and he should go back to fighting bums.

Salita is better than Greenberg... but limited, difference is that Team Salita KNOW this and haven't made the claims about his ability that Team Greenberg have had. Salita's team on a public forum that they didn't like his chances vs Mbaye. Hoping that the smaller Baulbi would upset the Frenchmen.. and even though Mbaye looked vulnerable in that fight - they still didn't fancy their chances even after it.

Must point out though, that I'm not 100% that Salita is still being managed by the same guy, so perhaps there is a new team behind him.

I personally can't see why the light-hitting Malignanni is so highly regarded? His best performance was a loss.

Admittled I haven't seen too much of him but what I have watched I'd have to go for Witter.

Paulie is a good fighter , but he's not a great one.

If Paulie was great he would of beaten a pressure fighter like Cotto and given him a boxing lesson.

Team Witter seem to have decided on their goal and I think Malinaggi isnt a bad choice - Reading through the posts here it seems whatever happens and whoever he fights, it wont please everyone - The only fight that would get 100% interest from you all including myself is Hatton v Witter but if Hatton loses badly to Mayweather and Witter then gets the chance to fight Hatton the interest currently shown may dwindle - Witter would probably be the favourite to win - If Hatton wins, Witter will be right out of the picture and it will never happen - Hatton would be after the real money fights, such as Cotto - Witter just isnt a crowd puller in his own country never mind America - He isnt even that popular in the Yorkshire cities of Doncaster or Bradford - He needs to try and make a name for himself in the States and if he does he will be far bigger here as as a result - He has the belt so he should get the fights - A good win over Malinaggi would be a great start to an American campagne.

Malignanni is a great strategical fight as in it gets him plenty of US publicity and another belt and bargaining power should he win. Stylistically the fight could be a nightmare to watch though (esp for the yanks who have booed every fight since Ward-Gatti)

Basicaly any title unification other than rees is a good move for him because it gives him a chance to fight in the USA and will add to his kudos. I think it is good that in his post fight interview and in some of the local news interviews he did after he avoided talking about hatton saying what hatton does is up to hatton he is looking for big fights.
