Lenny hit the nail on the head as to what my original post was trying to get at.
Hatton-Witter should have happened 4 or 5 years ago before they both reached such high standards that we did not know or was not sure they would reach. I would not say that hatton was scared of witter, but certainly wary of such a fighter (who wouldn't be), that could have been the one hurdle that tripped him up, so in his mind and especially warren's mind, why take the chance. I just don't like the reason as to why he didn't fight him.
I do believe that after hatton fights mayweather, win or lose he should have one more top fight whether it be cotto or ODLH then retire. He's been in too many wars and his chances of beating a witter now are becoming slimmer and slimmer. Back then i would have given hatton as much as 75%-25% the longer his career goes on it's looking more 50-50 as witter seems to be getting better with age and experience.
What i will say though is that history will look back on this, and want to know why this fight did not happen, as there was such high demand for it and they were both under the same promoter at the time. And the finger unfortunately will be pointed at hatton. sad but true.

Hatton/Mayweather high risk but big payday - Hatton/Witter high risk for relatively peanuts - Ever since Hatton started earning big, a fight with Witter has been no go - Back when Hatton was on his way up that was the time when it should have happened - I remember Witter fighting in Derby and Hatton was there to watch - Witter KOd his man and shouted out to Ricky "come on, me and you lets do it" - I thought at the time surely Hatton will fight Witter soon - I along with all of you have been dissapointed and frustrated with Hattons multiple excuses for not facing Witter - Its obvious now Hatton is at the top making millions per fight Witter is not being considered, its all about money but Graham said a while back he and Hatton had all the money they could ever need - Is Ray Hatton pushing Ricky to make millions for himself, I think its very likely the case - If Ricky can beat Mayweather the glory will be twice what it was beating Zoo and I think that is Ricky Hattons greatest motivation while others around him excluding Billy Graham are more motivated by the money - I may be very wrong but if Ricky was to lose badly against Mayweather the fight with Witter may just happen as other opportunities could well dissapear - Then again ODH would be a much better money spinner so maybe not and I see that as being very likely - The chances are Hatton/Witter will be on the same bill as Calzaghe/Froch and Haye/Macca, the dream domestic matchups that will never happen.

3 of my fave dream fights, boxing is so so frustrating. Thats probably our 3 best weight categories and we can't say who the best in Britain is any of them, because of boxing politics and plain old avoidance.
There doesn't seem the desire to prove your the best in the country, like there is in the US. The yanks always want to fight the best US opponent, OK not always, but it happens alot more in the US than it does over here. Look how Calzaghe got dropped like a clap-ridden missus when Pavlik broke onto the scene.
I think what it is Americans can fight Americans and make a big name for themselves and barrowloads of money but Brits fighting Brits and Germans fighting Germans cant do the same - Fighting the Americans means breaking onto the world scene and success means huge paydays - Thats Witters problem, he needs to fight in America not just fight American fighters - It took Hatton a good while to get accepted and rated by the American boxing fans - America is the home of world title fights and if you want to reach the top you have to fight in the States.
