Mitchell fast out of the blocks, Carl taking his time - Mitchell stopped rounds 8 or 9 with Carl ahead on points - Thats how I see it - Mitchell is good but Carl is better - Pretty certain Carl can take Mitchells punches and counter with his own - Mitchell has the advantage with speed and once thats gone, he will be ready for the taking.

I think Carl will take him out about round 5 I think being in a real fight will come as a horrible shock!

Looking forward to this one, it should be another beauty.
Johanneson by KO(4-7) IMO.
I like watching both fighters, so I ain't too arsed who wins, but I think that Mitchells suspect defence combined with Carls impressive power looks like a recipe for disaster for the satherner

Theres nothing wrong with being a domestic class fighter but im expecting Mitchell to go on to win a European belt AT LEAST, so no disrespect, but if he cant beat the likes of Johanesson, he can forget about it.

What a great topic and some great posts. This shows what a top match up this is. Fantastic the way opinion is divided. I think a Mitchell KO perhaps in the early rounds when Carl is damm slow.

anyway, looks like ppl are split on this one which usually makes for a good fight. i agree, Mitchell can win a level above British title, I nominate WBU level rather than European (though I don't know how much that will tell us about Mitchell).
then again, it think Johanesson is dominant enough over the Brits to win an EBU when Killerkosian moves up in class

I get the impression Mitchell might be better than some think, he's toughed it out a few times and hopefully, he's got the heart and chin to win this one.
I doubt he hits as hard as Gomez, so should be a real war, though maybe Mike didn't connect cleanly with the ol' left hook on Johanneson, so the West Ham man might have a chance early.
I'll go for Mitchell to win a late round war.

MITCHELL RELISHES JOHANNESON CHALLENGE
Sports Network will kick off the New Year with a bang when Kevin Mitchell challenges British Super Featherweight Champion Carl Johanneson at Bethnal Green's York Hall on January 12.
One of British boxing's hottest talents, Mighty Mitchell is determined to add a Lonsdale belt to his Commonwealth crown - and says he will be too quick and too powerful for the champion.
And Mitchell's claim has come despite Johanneson winning the Lonsdale belt outright on Friday night in Doncaster when he rode out a storm to halt Michael Gomez in six brutal rounds.
" I watched the fight on television, and Johanneson is exciting to watch, I'll give him that," said 22-year-old Mitchell, who boasts a 24-0 (17) record.
" But he'll be too slow for me. I'll box him at range and sooner or later I'll catch him with one of my left hooks and knock him out. He won't see my combinations coming.
" His hands aren't that fast while mine are like lightning. I work with quick guys in sparring, and although Johanneson has got a good punch, you can't hit what you can't see."
Mitchell will enjoy home advantage for the fight, and says it has been his lifetime's ambition to win the coveted British title at the home of boxing.
" Everyone is talking about the fight already, and it's still 12 weeks away," said Mitchell.
" York Hall is going to be absolutely rammed, and the atmosphere will be electric.
" I'm going to have to sacrifice my Christmas because of the Johanneson fight, but it will be worth it when I lift the British title.
" When I was growing up and boxing for West Ham in the amateurs, I always dreamed about following in the footsteps of some of my heroes and fighting for a British title at York Hall.
" I've already topped the bill there, but fighting for a Lonsdale belt will be something else.
" And let's face it, if I can't beat the current British champion, then I might as well pack it in. I want to win world titles at three different weights, so this fight is definitely a stepping stone to greater things."
Promoter allegedly added: "Fight fans have got an early Christmas present with Amir Khan fighting Graham Earl, and a late one with Mitchell tackling Johanneson.
" This a big test for Kevin, and his chance to make a big statement. He is one of the most talented fighters in the country, and he'll need all that talent to beat Johanneson, but I'm confident he will come through and then go on and establish himself as a world champion."
Johanneson, 29, boasts a 27-3 (19) record and has built a reputation for being one of the biggest punchers in Britain. He has also challenged for the European title.

I think that it is inevitable at some point Mitchell will abandon his new found Boxing tactics and engage in a toe to toe. That is when this one becomes interesting as Johanneson has the experience and whacks hard enough to the body to hurt Mitchell. I was impressed by the way Johaneson refused to buckle mentally against Gomez in the face of some heavy firepower. Kirakosyan really is his bogeyman.

If Mitchell had the goods he would have been fast tracked to a title by FW.
Clever match making this one.
Mitchell is the house fighter and if he prevails maybe we'll see a few more events at the York Hall.
Carl is the away boxer - and FW will have options.
If he prevails more bills at Leeds Town Hall with the comeback kid at the helm.
I strongly take Carl to beat Mitchell inside the distance.

Burns, who you would have to rate as a better boxer than Mitchell, had no luck keeping Carl off him in their fight. Yes Mitchell hits harder than Burns does but it certainly not going to be a case of Johansson not being able to find him. If Mitchell is going to win this (which I think he will) he is going to have to come through some very rough moments.
Can't wait though, will definitely be going down for this one

Who does he think he is fornicating super man, wint world titles at 3 weights :S still good for the press anyhow although tbh I think they are under selling the chances of Carl.

Good fight though, it deserves a tv audience one way or another.

Can Mitchell win a dogfight is the question? And he will need to tighten up his defence it's been non existent in some of his fights. He won't get away with that in this one.

Dont matter what title it is or isnt for. Its a great domestic punch up between two YOUNG fighters in LONDON.

WBU/WBO/IBC Inter city 125 continental quilt duck feather pillow fight championship interim junior super belt for all I care. (but the green one with the round gold bit in the middle coz thats the best one)

Been down the PEACOCK latley DES
Not sure when these turn aways and dropping from body shots happened but all adds to the build up dont it.....
CJ is a great fighter and showed plenty of balls against a really fired up Gomez but i really do think this is going to be Kevs big coming out fight.The kids has bundles of talent and is now being let of the leash
