I think he should clean up in Britain so it'd be Elcock for the British, Macklin, etc. Then go Europe, with guys like last night's Castillejo-Carrera.

Great future for Barker. Wasn't perfect but he's done good in only his 2nd fight this year. I thought he was special seeing the Barton fight and I believe the likes of Abraham and Sturm will be no match for him in a few years.

Don't share your enthusiasm. With the greatest of respect to Greg Barton no matter how good anyone looks against him should it really be enough to earn the label "special"?

I think Barker will do very well to win a European title. I think the likes of Sylvester and Asikainen would outlast him. He's not a particularly hard puncher and looks to lack the strength to compete at the very highest level.

Based on tonights showing though he does have a great workrate and decent fitness levels but for me he's probably a dominant British champ but no more. I think he'll go on to have a Robet McCracken like career. No shame in that. Hopefully he goes on to prove me wrong in the sense that he'll do even better.

One - good RBR so thanks for that Kilburn except I wayched it so i didn't need it but i don't know where you got that one from @ the crowd seems nervous about the points scoring , " unless you were joking.....

and TWO , Joe Calzaghe's not exactly a puncher so it just goes to show how far workrate combined with a good tecnique can get you.

Barker will hopefully go on to have a good career but I think all this talk of European "cleaning up" and World title talk is a little premature considering the stage he's at in his career and I just wonder if it is a symptom of the London boxing scene (correct me on the Geography if I'm wrong by all means) get very excited every time they get an ABA champ that turns pro the seem to they they've got a world champ in the making.

He lost on a cut. It was a great fight a real old fashioned tear-up, Thirlwall got caught by a head by the look of it in the first round,. and the doctor was called at the start of round three, but let him continue. Referee Williams stopped it in the 3rd, he need six stitches, but it didn't look like it was affecting his vision, but I wasn't in the ring!

I'm enthusiastic. He's got a lot ahead of him. No one's saying he's going to challenge Abraham in his next fight. He had about 3 rds this year, so no wonder he found the full 12 a bit uncomfortable, FFS. Stylish fighter, needs to be kept busy, defend vs some tough Aussies/Canadians, then go for Elcock for the British.

Seriosuly, when Barker is ready, he's going to murder Sylvester and Asikainen. Their natural talent and moves don't come close. I think he'll be beating Macklin and Duddy by late next year.

He'll probably be 29 like Froch when he has (I hope) a world ranking. Like I say, the lack of activity (nearly a year out) can kill a fighter's development but he's learned going 12 rds, has the confidence of a title & will emerge better for it. Great prospect.

We're too hard on our fighters. Brits are doing better than ever. Why is it that ppl are so surprised when they go on to do big things?

Barker's a fine stylist and can grow into a world force.

Well done Darren, did really well, I gave every round to him - Fair play to Crampton who came to fight - Had to laugh at Crampton, reading his lips "Im knackered" as he came off his stool at the beginning of round 4, I think it was.

Crampton shut up shop and offered very little offense. This was because Barker figured him out and bullied him into a shell over the 1st half. Barker almost boxed too well early, because Crampton had to go into survival. After that there was no target to hit, so he had to throw a few tapping shots to set up the real shot. I think it was a very good performance. Not easy to look good when the other guy is basically protecting himself. Like the look of Barker a lot. Fights like these are good learning ones.

Barker definitely hasn't mastered the "less is more" quality yet. However, I think he looks a bit special. Crampton went into "Ismael Abdoul mode", but only because Barker knocked him into the mode. The opposite would be kind of like Haye vs Abdoul, something that many ppl slated Haye for. I know you liked that performance Terry, and I actually remember myself saying "this is how Haye would be an O'Neil Bell, caution/accuracy/pacing."

Still, good to see a young fighter let those hands go. I'm hoping Barker and Froch do good in these weights.

Yep, lots of good fights. I'd like to see him vs the good domestic fighters (Eastman, Macklin, Elcock) and I think his bigger tests are actually at 154 if they fancy it (Moore, Pryce).

The world champions at middle are all flawed. Araham and Sturm definitely not top drawer. I can see Barker doing something in this division despite the lost time.

Do you know if the Hennessy/Golden Boy bill with British vs Mexican fighters is going to happen. Night before Hatton-Floyd. It was rumoured Froch, Barker, Murray and Meager were all going over to America. I thought it was a GREAT idea.

Barker looked very good to me. Excellent variety of shots and a very good workrate. The only thing he seems to lack is a genuinely solid dig. He looks a decent puncher, but definitely not much of a one punch KO artist at the higher levels. Can't see many people beating him domestically at the moment.

Good win for Barker. He utterly dominated the Australian to the point where I think some of the rounds could even have been 10-8. The scoreline certainly didn't flatter Barker.


A mouthwatering first defence against Darren McDermott would be my pick.
