The original poster made some valid points. I don't see nothing wrong with a brit wanting to see a mayweather win. If he's your favourite boxer, why wouldn't you want him to win?

I'm one of these guys that are not quite sure what result i woulds prefere. As i have supported hatton from the very beginning but much prefere mayweather as a boxer, and would take a mayweather fight over a hatton any day of the week. Watch hatton pre tszyu, and he was 100% percent action and skill Where as post tszyu he was 50% action and 50% wrestler. Now i don't have a problem with this, because as a fellow pro myself i would also do what i have to do to get the win. But it does take away a little appeal imo.

I do think it would be massive for the sport in britain if hatton won, but at the same time the people watching will also see the skill of mayweather aginst one of their own boys.

I certainly don't agree with all these football fans saying that it's unpatriotic to want mayweather to win and if you do then you should leave the island. Bullshit. I am a fan of boxing first. but i do love to see brits do well on the world scene, though.

Fair play to the original poster, brave to post that!

For what it's worth I think Floyd has had a very good run for years, is also a back and front, so it's Hatton's turn!

But I could envisage a scenrio where I might cheer on a foreign fighter against a Brit and I am very patriotic, someone like Hagler against Howard Eastman. I'd want Hagler to win everytime!

And that's not just because he's over 50 years old and it would be a great story! Seriously though Eastmans style has always rubbed me up the wrong way, I could easily find myself rooting against him.

They're English and they want the BIG mouthed Yank to beat the Englishman in the BIGGEST fight of the decade........I find it absurd to say the least. Its like supporting South Africa in the rugby World Cup final or the Germans in the football World Cup

Personally, I could never cheer for a gobshite like Herbie Hide just because he is from the same nation as me.

As a general rule though I always follow British fighters, and can't remember any other occasions where I rooted against them.

I take it you weren't in Manchester to see this 'nice guy' holding his d*ck and telling the crowd to f*ck off? Or what about when the 'nice guy' and his entourage who weren't so brave on stage, but appeared from a 3rd floor window fanning money and shouting obscenities to the crowd whilst Rick was recieving an award off the mayor.

Mayweather is a classless piece of dirt. How any Brit can root for this guy is beyond me.

While I see where you are coming from, its not like a team sport. Why does it have to be country versus country?? Its man v man regardless of nationallity. I support Mayweather because I have been a fan of him for years.

I think Ricky is a great bloke, I really do, and appreciate all he has done for the sport. I'm not praying he loses just hoping the other guy wins.

This isn't a world cup final its, a title bout and they happen far more often.

In the case of Hatton-PBF its the best man that Britain has to offer against the best man the US has to offer

People are so quick to judge just because he is trying to sell a fight. He gives to the homeless, does plenty of charity work for kids and according to those who know him personally he is an absoulute gent.

So what if he has a fight persona? So what if he has an entoruage. You can make a case that Billy, Kerry and his gym mates are Rickys entourage.

I watched an interview with Floyd recently saying that he knows that his brash attitude rubs people at the end of the day but he knows its a front and would never deisrespect someone in a normal situation i.e outside of selling a fight.

I see your point but why should be a patriotic thing? I started this post to genuinely see how many boxing fans would be supporting Mayweather.

I'm Irish actually, but a british citizen. Also, I think your point of view is bizarre, Hatton isn't competing for England, he's competing for money. This isn't football and it makes no difference to me where a person comes from, I'm not a nationalist

I'm in the same boat as the original poster and actually from Manchester. However in my defense I flew out to cheer Floyd on against DLH.
Against anyone else I'd cheer on Ricky but I've been a big fan of Floyd for a while and like his style.
One thing that does piss me off is that everyone suddenly loves Boxing because Hatton is fighting and all think he's gonna win, having never seen Floyd fight. They'll all be in for a shock December 8th....

I'm a big PBF fan so I will be cheering for him. Hattons never really appealed to me, not a fan of his fighting style and something about him rubs me the wrong way. I don't dislike Hatton like some on here and I do think hes an elite level fighter. Just not my cup of tea

I never really let nationalism get in the way of my appreciation of sporting greats. I was a fan of Diego Maradona in 1990 (too young to appreciate him in 1986), I was supporting Tyson against Lewis.

On this theme, the biggest arsehole I've seen for a long time was a complete prick ringside at Witter-Harris.

Fat, bald 40-something c*nt in a pink shirt and a Cockney to boot, as if he wasn't already taking the piss. He was obviously there to see some undercard kid and just to be a twat when the main event was on, he was screaming for Harris.

And no, he wasn't a real Harris supporter - every time he'd shout - which was often, the corpulent cock would look round at the Yorkshire audience grinning inanely. He was looking for trouble. I was actually sat with a couple of pro boxers who were itching to go and bat him. Real prick.

A Hatton win would be great for boxing all over the world. We'd have a proper rivalry. There'd be a rematch... It's just what the sport needs. Another close but cautious win for Mayweather would not really ignite the sport in the same way.
