as said by someone earlier, with modern matchmaking as it is, there is less need for someone to take a dive. all you need do is put Scott Harrison v Samuel Kebede, Enzo Macaroni v Bobby Gunn, Joe Calzaghe v Pocker Dudwill...

Martin, for what its worth, I believe you, but dont think you should jack it all in. Go out there and show them what you're made of..
And for the post that says that the board will take away his licence, how do we really know for sure that it is really him? anyone could view a boxers record on the net and make stuff up?
Its up to us as forum members what we chose to believe!!!
There are a lot of people on this forum who are boxers, trainers, promoters matchmakers etc
Also there are many journalists and people who are closely connected with the British scene. We know what goes on and what doesn't go on and I don't believe these claims for one minute.
The poster is Martin Gillick, he has been posting for years.
The reason why he is 'risking everything' is because he has no intention of fighting again. He made himself look silly by bigging himself up on these boards and then after his debut went badly has found it hard to live down the ridicule.
This is just an attempt to save face.
I believe a far better way of doing this is to get in shape and get back in the ring

Fella, most on here are prepared to accept that in general terms this may happen, but anyone who has followed the 'career' of this character (he's posted on here for years) can't help but be cyncial as he has proved to be somewhat 'inconsistent' in the past, to use a diplomatic phrase.
Furthermore, in terms of this specific circumstance, as others have already pointed out, he'd make an unlikely character to be approached given his lack of conditioning etc, which ensured he was already the weakest possible opponent.
Does it happen? Quite possibly. Did it happen to MTG? Unlikely.
Finally, even it, somewhat implausibly, it did, how does that justify comments like "sorry mike jenno but you hit like a pussy!!!"
Completely disparaging of a fellow pro and says more about MTG than any of the things he's been whining about.

God, I really don't know where to start with this one. I've even backed this lad up on here occasionally in the past and got one of our lads to do a bit on him:
http://www.britishboxing.net/news_2012- ... rrior.html
Here is Terry Dooley's report on his debut:
Next up came a clash of debuting pros as Mick Jenno wiped-out Martin Gillick with contemptuous ease after only 1:16 seconds of the first round.
Gillick, fighting out of Scotland, had been announcing his impending debut for moths via the Internet. This has led to many feeling he should be commended for lacing-up the gloves even if he was cleared out in less than two minutes. Well if you subscribe to that viewpoint scroll on by as there are going to be some harsh words here.
Gillick, 12st 3lb, came out to fight, for want of a better word, looking fat. Rolls of the stuff rested on the band of his shorts as he waited for Jenno, who was roared into the ring by a sizeable Scouse travelling support.
BBN had watched Jenno spar some torrid rounds with prospect Denton Vassell earlier this year as Jenno had trained for a few aborted debuts. Mike had kept quiet and kept training as he awaited his first fight, when it came he was fit and ready.
Jenno, a trim and tight 11st 11-½lb, came out behind a tight southpaw guard. A right hand to the body followed by a left to the head signalled his intent, as did his pumping out the southpaw jab early.
The ending began when Mike landed a left uppercut to the body that floored Gillick. It was a nice shot but surely a fighter who has been preparing for a long time for a debut should be able to take it.
Anyway, Gillick could not and shortly after beating the count found himself on the canvas again as a left uppercut to the body followed by a right hook to the head floored him for the second time.
Gillick rose only for a straight left to the body to send him down and out barely two minutes into his debut.
It was an easy win for Jenno – the fighter who has toiled hard in the gym for months to produce this moment – and Mike showed plenty of quality in the bout.
For Gillick it serves notice that his preparation was woeful and if that deserves praise then so be it. In reality all praise should go to Jenno for coming into the fight with the fitness and skills needed to win in this tough sport.
Never underestimate the power of denial. You are obviously, as has been said, slightly unhinged. Why on earth would anyone feel the need to offer a bribe to someone obviously so incapable of winning a boxing contest?
I hope to speak for all on here when I say good luck with your future - but leave this sport alone once and for all and stop tarnishing it to make yourself feel better.

I just detest corruption of any kind - I suppose it does exist in boxing but I think its rare that any boxer is offered a backhander - Have to say I was a little dubious about Clay/Liston - Martin has got to have had a few pints, whatever, to post this and I think it may cause him a bit of trouble.

Well one things for sure Tennis players have been taking bribes to throw matches, look at how much money low level tennis players make compared to low level pro boxers
What about a few years ago in the premiership when top liverpool players were taking bribes, look at how much money pro footballers are on,if the premiership can be corrupted its a very very safe bet that it goes on in pro boxing
no doubt

There may be mis-matches, there may be refs - in the opinion of some - stopping bouts prematurely, there may be judges who need to make an urgent appointment with the optician, but I do not believe that boxers are offered bribes to take a dive by anyone involved in the sport.
The only scenario I could imagine where a bribe was offered would involve someone, not involved in the sport, placing a hefty bet and offering a share of the proceeds to the "diver".

MTG has posted around the boards for years and made himself out to be a new coming.
He had more pull outs than a gay boy in a brothel and then because he got a whooping comes out with this shite.
Why the eff you bothered comin back before - was it New Zealand last time because everyone was against you ? - I don't know.
Do one and and get a job in a travelling fair scrapping kangaroos.
Tosser.
SPOT ON. MTG you are an asswipe attention seeker, on these boards for years saying you were mustard. Injurys and too many pints, weight and all other shite you posted about, excuses after excuses. Now this. You are a grade A* whopper mate am tellin' ya... Who would ask a 0-0-0 pro to take a dive when by lookin at him he was gonna be gasses in the first anyway, id expect this from you mate i really would... Laughable really...

There is allot of corruption in the judging side but in terms of paid taking dives, I doubt there is many at all. When big fights do goto the cards I would say 30% have cards decided prior to the fight taking place. The promoter pays the judges and refs wages and decides if the judge/ref get more work in the future, the judges meet with the promoter and are perhaps told to favour the house fighter.
MTGs story does sound unlikely, defeat and lack of success is very hard to come to terms with. I know I've had many failures in my own life that are hard to come to terms with and denial and excuses help come people with disapointment and depression.
At least MTG gave the Pro Game a go, many have wanted to but will never know if they could have been something

Boxing isn't corrupt, people are corrupt and you MTG are one of those people if what you say is true. I have respect for anyone who steps inside a boxing ring but tbh boxing is better off without you. I hope you can find something that is more suitable. Good luck in Oz.

1) this chap seems to have about as much right to lay claim to being a boxer as I do and I don't box but I think I'd last longer than that if I boxed tomorrow.
2) who sets themself up for a fall by sounding off for month's on the internet for month's and then turning up fat?
3) and this is the killer, why the F emigrate to Australia cos you've had effectively what is a bad day at the office. It's a bit ******g cliche isn't it emigrating to the furthest point on the globe.
Or is boxing such a major part of your life that there's no alternative.....it obviously isn't or you wouldn't turn up for you well publicised (self publicised debut) looking like a teletubby. Well you wouldn't would you??
There are people out there who take the game seriously but there is more going on in their lives than to say right I'm *******g off to Australia. Get a grip, get a job, gat back in the ring if that's what it takes, only do it properly this time eh.
4) and this isn't a criticism but what would have possessed BBN to do a feature on an internet warrior i just don't know.
I'm gonna start boxing and clean up......want to come and give me an interview.....NO, and you'd be right not to. Hey though I don't know all the ins and outs so don't take it personally (Ian

)
I never even wanted to post on this thread as FRANKLY I think Herol's skipping is a far FAR worthier topic except there's no sport on TV so it's a quiet day all round.

My oh my oh my..
why would anyone want to pay you to lose? Who would be that stupid to waste their money when it was so obvious that you wasnt in no shape to fight anyone?
And to top it all off, who would pay anyone to lose to a nobody?? where is the sense in that?
Grow up and stop throwing your toys out of the pram! You clearly are a nobody whose last attempt at being someone (u hope) is by being talked about on here!! And I cant believe we are even giving you our time!!

Why fight if you are being robbed, why bother ?
Its a known fact that low level pro boxers get ripped off all the time
You lot think top Liverpool premiership players making millions are corrupted by betting scams that have been in the mainstream media and some pro boxer getting ripped off will not take a dive ?
Its hard for me to understand that point of view

Get yourself a licence, a manager etc. like Martin Gillick did and we'll be happy to interview you too!!!!! One of the things about the site is that we cover the small shows and the new professionals so why shouldn't we have interviewed MTG?

There's a picture of the two fellas in question towards the bottom of that page.
Jenno looks almost saintly, whereas MTG looks like a kid who hasn't done his homework and is waiting behind a cold sweat for the teacher to call his name.

Just reading his posts on Eastside and he claims he was offered Maccas last victim for his debut before Jenno stopped him!
Says there too his licence Is already suspended anyway.
