McDonagh turned it down that's all I know.
Mcdonagh, or Brian hughes was offered the fight six weeks ago.
As for Portman, his manager was offered the fight weeks ago but said no thanks.
It's not a big show, just a show to get fighters fights, and keep people in work so the budgets aren't spectacular as anyone involved in promoting knows.

Now that you've all seen what has happened following the Moore fight collapsing maybe you can see how hard it is for the likes of Rhodes to get opponents you lot will accept and not accuse him of failing to step up etc.
Maloney took the cheap option and has put on a fight for the British title involving Portman - the man who ran a mile when offered the Rhodes fight for Wednesday evening along with a few others.
It's a PPV event and whilst joe public may be sucked in I'm not.
Rhodes had no problem fighting Woolcombe.
Maloney had every chance of making Rhodes v Woolcombe happen, with the blessing of Rhodes Management / Promotion.
So why didn't it happen ?
Draw your own conclusions.
By the way Frank - I am not Rhodes just a fight fan.

Hi gents,
I still think Rhodes should be looking for Central Area or English titles to cement his return to 11st, then i'd have him fighting for EU or Commonwealth, a couple of defences, then a crack at the Euro title. By 32 or 33 if he won that lot he'd have EARNED a (proper) world title shot - and I'd give him a decent chance against the recent WBA 11st champs, or Spinks or Dzindiruk.
Mind you - I remember meeting him way back in 1996 and subsquent times aftre that.....I always felt the same - he should never have gone to Middleweight in the first place, and aftre the Grant fight should have returned to 11st.
If he had (aftre all, the youngest British world champ post-war chance had gone), and he'd have taken 3 or 4 years to get back on track and win the old-fashoined titles, I really think he'd have been an 11st world champ already.
Hindsight huh....
