what gives buckley the right to be exempt from this sort of accusation or official board scrutiny ?
Boxing, unlike the other two sports you mentioned, football and cricket, is unique in that it is 'the hurt business'. If you dont know how to look after yourself in there, or are over matched in terms of size and/or experience you could well end up seriously injured.

You are entitled to your opinion rhino - they are like arseholes, everyone has one - but it doesnt necessarily mean it is right.

As Kev pointed out Buckley has been called before the board re: his losing streak but his 'services' to the sport in saving shows and giving young green pros rounds outweigh the negative aspects (and I have sat through plenty of Buckley fights in my time).

Ask match makers and promoters the value of Buckley and his ilke and I am sure they will give you an insight into Buckley's worth that you might otherwise not appreciate.

My original point was that when you are routinely over matched in terms of size, youth, ambition and talent, is it really any wonder that Buckley has adopted a cross armed defensive shell that he only rarely explodes out of with countering left hooks?

Buckley wants to stay healthy, get paid and not end up walking on his heels when his career is over - can you blame him?

Now, unless you are willing to jump in the back of a van on a Friday afternoon and hot tail it to another city for 6 fast paced rounds facing a young pro keen to impress in front of his friends and family by trying to tear you a new arsehole, I suggest you give Buckely and his fellow boxing centurions a break. :D

no.....cos its his job.

he does it because its his job, the same as i get called out at silly hours because some bloody woman needs a caesarian section or some pratt has fallen of their motor bike....its all in a days work, i get paid for it and so does buckley.

fighters who answer calls to save shows at short notice get a better purse, its a well known fact in the fight game.

over to you....

Do you think because of Buckleys long losing streak it adds a bit of pressure to a young boxer, imagine if your the guy who loses to him.
How would you explain that to your mates.

OK, some boxers " give an up and coming fighter a workout " but I don't really think this has a place on a show for paying fans. Others may disagree, of course- and see it as something of an exhibition match. From my persepctive, as a fan, if a fight isn't competative ( ie if one guy has just turned up to defend for 6 rounds and collect a paycheque), then its just dull. If its obvious that one boxer is going to win then it lacks any appeal as a sporting contest.

It would seem much better to match journeymen against other journeymen with similar records, that way it is a proper contest.

Re: Rhino's point - I would like to see you, or any other arm chair critic, take on younger, naturally heavier fighters on a consistent basis and NOT learn to adapt your style to mitigate receiving a severe beating time and again.

Don't knock Buckley for making a living - knock the promoter's match makers and the prospect's managment team.

But he hasnt had his license taken away has he? All the journeymen get this phone call.As far as i see Catweasle is still fighting and losing and making a few quid.Youl see as well Buckley is monitered so he is under scrutiny just as long as hes not getting hurt theres no reason to take his license.

Surely though there is a requirement that a boxer must try and win the fight, as well as just not getting hurt.

perhaps journeymen with no winning ambition should only be used for gym sparring. then the paying public are not fleeced. there is obvious embarassment at shows for the promoter.......as a decent fighter is introduced by the mc as someone with 23 fights, 20 wins of which 16 are coming by way of ko, whereas a journeyman will get the old ...... 'taking part in his 72nd professional contest' .....
