I think the ref is between Mickey Vann or Howard Foster I think in one of Ian McNeilly's reports he says Foster. A very tough fight i think for Khan but youth will prevail.

to be fair he tries hard...........I've got a degree in 2 foreign languages but I could not express myself in either foreign tongue quite so effortlessly as Khan expresses himself in English. This is a young kid we're talking about, he speaks two languages fluently and could kick the sh*t out of fully matured men that box for a living. In my book that makes him a fantastic achiever when you compare him to 75% of what his local comp probably turned out.
Mind you he can't fcking drive by the sounds of it..........which you'd think would be easier than all of the above.

I think its Howard Foster which if true would be an excellent choice. I seem to recall him giving Earl every chance against Kevin Bennett when he was in big trouble against Kevin Bennett before he came back to win.

Incidentally, I think Earl stops Khan on Saturday.

Khans been raised in an english speaking country & an urdu speaking house its not exactly rocket science or trying to learn a brand new language when you're 20 years old.

to be fair to you my argument was wide open to that one, that Khan speaks two languages is not necessarily an indication he is more intelligent than others his age. He's probably been speaking them since he was 5 and with his boxing going through the roof there's not really much cause for improving the way he speaks beyond what he needs to get by......the lad spends most of his time training, travelling fighting etc......but at the end of the day I'm not the one on here sleting him for sounding thick.
How many footballers (or worse, football supposed pundits can barely string a sentence together). Yes he has a tendency to repeat certain phrases a lot in interviews but that could be down to anything....after a fight he's coming back down to Earth and has about 2 minutes to answer a series of questions just put to him in front of millions. Cut the kid some slack. I think he comes across excellently when speaking but he needs to sort out his attitude to tearing round Bolton at speed before he does somebody in , (or someone else I should say)

That's definitely still my feeling, but no doubt I'm not fully confident about it. I guess that's why I enjoy watching Amir Khan so much, because his defense isn't as tight as it should be. I think he's a fast learner though, and he has improved a lot over his pro career so far.

I found your arguement that Khan does well to speak two languages a bit strange to say the least - Thousands of Asian kids raised here speak perfect English and with regional dialect as Khan does, so I dont understand your point - The only thing I have against the kid is his huge ego, nothing else - I also happen to think he will never be a Juan Diaz and Euro level is about his mark - This is a very tough fight for him and if he storms in at Earl with his chin up God help him - I dont think half of you know very much about Graham Earl or you wouldnt see him as just another opponent for Khan to blow away - Earl is two levels above has a lot of experiance, can bang and has the heart of a lion - Just about all, barring Limond, fought Khan for the payday knowing they would lose - Earl is there to win and all the crap about being shot after Katsidis and being on the slide is just nonesense - Earl has been verbal, but in response to Khan saying he could beat him and Jon Thaxton, and is the best in Britain - Well, now its Khans chance to prove that point and good luck to him - Remember its easier to hit up than to hit down and Earl can hit twice as hard as Limond - If Earl lands flush and I say he will its lights out and all over - There will be a rematch so Khan can try again but it will be a huge upset and a huge setback for the supposed boy wonder.

That's just not going to happen Wildwaylon. Earl is made for Khan... I think this will be his last fight...

He doesn't come over as exactly the sharpest tool in the box during interviews, that's for sure.
In fact I'll often walk away from the TV when he's talking, just because I feel bad for him, as he's obviously not comfortable speaking in front of millions ( not many are! ) but he seems a nice enough kid, when not in a car that is.

As for a big ego, well of course he has a massive ego - any boxer, who wants to hit the heights, HAS to have massive self belief when stepping through the ropes.
Ricky Hatton must have a huge ego as well - he thinks he's going to beat PBF for instance...it's just Ricky is a lot smarter and more socialy aware than Khan, and knows to disguise it behind all that false modesty. That's why he's so popular.

It is certainly possible that Khan will get clocked with a counter if he comes scurrying into Earls range behind those quick flurries. It will be interesting to see how he approaches this fight and what his stamina and form is like if it goes past 6-8 rounds. I would expect him to be more measured in his approach but this hasn’t been in his MO so far.

Khan deserves some credit for taking this risky fight and deserves more of the same if he comes through it in convincing style. I just wish people would quit making value judgements on the lad based on the OTT media circus that surrounds him.

I agree with most of that - IMO he'll box rings around earl before stopping him in 8. About the speaking thing - when you've just come from a fight it can be very difficult to speak - you're pumped full of adrenaline and on a emotional rush. I find it hard enough to speak in front of a large audience so im not gonna slate him for that but I have to admit me and my m8s pissed our sides during one of his postfight interviews when he siad "kno wha a mean" approximately twenty yes 20 times! Bottomline though he's a fighter and does that very well so lets leave most of the talking to the promoters

In all fairness, in European rings you don't need to be a big puncher if you can throw anything more than powder puff level punches in big flurries - referees seem conditioned to step in if a guy is taking blows on the ropes without throwing, even if he is basically showing reasonable defensive/survival skills. Jack of all trades master of none - Khan probably can't read or write in Urdu and probably is as limited in Punjabi (the Urdu dialect) as he is with his English.

Whats messed up in the British system is the teachers in Bradford aren't allowed to stop the children communicating in their native tounges so the vast majority of Asians i nAsian areas never get a good enough grasp of English. Political correctness gone crazy

However end of rant Khan isn't paid for his communication skills hes paid for beating up tomatto cans and knocking people over on zebra crossings

As I said, he is a lovely boxer and should win if he just boxes. Hands up and straight punches, plenty of feignts and a bit of head and body movement. Keep the chin down and the hands up.
