Thats because you're a effing idiot, mate
$$$$$
Of that there is no doubt!!!
But Hopkins is 43 - are you saying he is a fighter in his prime or anywhere near it??
I'm saying neither, im saying that Joe is interested in fighting Hopkins for the money, and considering we are talking about
professional boxing here, i think thats reason enough

Trust me, Hopkins takes him. He'll weigh 185 of solid muscle on the night, and Joe is used to super-middle punches. You get slower with age, but you also get stronger with age and Hopkins will be hitting harder than ever.
He'll land 100 lead and counter right hands in 10 rounds. Only it won't go 10.

Underestimating Hopkins is dumb, but I just can;t look past the fact that overrated all-American Jermain Taylor beat him twice.
Taylor is one of the worst champions since John Ruiz, skill wise.

Hopkins wasnt knocking people out at middleweight never mind light heavyweight, you must be confusing him with someone else, cos he aint knocking Calzaghe out, no matter what!
And your making out Hopkins is the bigger man, Hopkins wasnt having problems making Middleweight, where as Calzaghe is struggling to get himself at the super middleweight limit, your talking nonesense if you think Hopkins is going to be so much bigger!

Calzaghe would never lose to someone who lost to Taylor.

Calzaghe would never lose to a black fighter!!! - Oh dear I think thats considered a racist comment when you turn it round the other way - Just a bit of fun, nothing serious and Im sure Hopkins would understand where Im comming from.

Well, I think if there was a noted deterioration for the Trinidad through to Taylor performances, then I think a futher deterioration could be noted between the Tarver and Wright efforts.
Calzaghe won't lose to Hopkins now, but I am of the opinion he would have in BHOP's heyday.

I do think that some people are underestimating Hopkins. He'll definitely make it a competitive fight - he's still too good to be dominated by anyone. But assuming that Joe treats the fight with 100% focus and commitment and doesn't get carried away with his own hype (which he never has before) then I still make him the favourite.

if Calzaghe loses to Hopkins now he may aswell Throw away all his belts.
he Should wipe the floor with the 43 year old Boxer

STP, I think you are on drugs. joe is an awesome, dedicated fighter and alot younger. He will beat Hopkins. I dont think Hopkins will take the fight, he kows this.

I still think Calzaghe will take on Clinton Woods

Calzaghe will be too fast and too busy for Hopkins, but I doubt the fight will come off, if Jones beats Trinidad convincingly then Hopkins will face Jones next....

put it this way, it could be a lot closer than people think. Hopkins' output has declined in recent years obviously, but with Calzaghe's sloppiness he could have frequent success. If Calzaghe does his trademark 'chin out to dry' flurries I see him getting caught regularly, while he's not gonna catch Hopkins clean a whole lot at all.
Hopkins has retained his defensive prowess and if Calzaghe wins it'll have to be because of his overwhelming workrate negating the cleaner shots from Hopkins.
The Hopkins of a few years back I would have picked to beat Calzaghe had the fight happened at SM.

If Bernard Hopkins muscles up as someones suggested it will only play further in Calzaghe's advantage.
Joes stamina and speed will be far too much to cope with.

Ughhhhhhhh ???????
I am certainly not doubting Joe's chances of winning - I actually think he wins comfortably.
But to win against a 43 old - how credible is that??
Hopkins is no ordinary 43 yr old boxer.

Indeed he is no ordinary 43 year old Boxer, but he's 43 and passed his best.
Calzaghe should win comfortably

I'm of the opinion that Hopkins is a few years past his best and I think Joe will have to much for him. However, I think Hopkins would beat Woods still quite confortably.

I cannot see Calzaghe losing to Hopkins. Not now. I think Calzaghe would have won, albeit it by a narrow margin if it had happened back in 2002, but if it happens now? Only one winner. Hopkins' two defeats against Taylor aren't easy to forget.
Oh, and if you haven't seen it, here's Hopkins giving Joe the 'I'll never lose to a white boy' rant from the Hatton-Mayweather build-up:

Please!!!
I know you are a knowlegable boxing fan - but in wanting to see this fight happen and in addition thinking - nope deluding yourself that you think it will be an exciting or viable fight for Calzaghe - then I suggest you or anyone that agrees with you should rush to the hospital and demand for the strongest medication they can give you.
Calzaghe/Hopkins should have happened at least 5 years ago.
There are many many in fact f*cking loads of other options for Calzaghe other than a 43 old -
The only interesting thing about the fight - will be the pre fight hype and the sh*t and b*llocks the journalists write about it in their eagerness to suck up to the respective promoters.

Loads is a bit over the top IMO, Spud. There is Chad Dawson the future of the Light Heavyweights - the Mikkel Kessler of the Light Heavyweights so to speak... and thats it at Light Heavyweight.
There is Bute, Taylor/Pavlik (maybe a few other Middles) and maybe a Kessler rematch at Super Middleweight.
Clinton Woods isn't as viable or as credible a match for Joe than Hopkins... whether you like it or not, Hopkins aged 43 would beat Clinton. His last two opponents have been better than Clinton's opponents and he has beaten then as convincingly as Clinton did.
No, I don't think Hopkins is the real number #1 Light Heavy - I don't think he could unify the titles from the belt holders.... but only Chad Dawson would beat him.

how many people here seriouslly think this fight will be tougher for j.c, than either lacy or kessler.

Naturally I am going to disagree with you Stu.
For me if Calzaghe thinks he is genuinally good enough then he cleans up at Light Heavyweight - therein lies the intrigue.
Woods regardless what you extremely knowledgable boxrec-ers say or write is a MASSIVE fight - the press, TV and the promotional companies involved will make that fight f*cking huge - if then Calzaghe does what all but a few of us doubt he can by beating Woods then comes the even bigger fights.
The crys for the unification of the Light Heavyweight Division.
WBA - Danny Green
WBC - Chad Dawson
WBO - Zsolt Erdei
Anyone of those fights could be made and would be huge - logic says they would go for Danny Green first - then Erdei - the German promoters would do business as they have done in the past - then the big one - Chad Dawson.
Posted: 26 Dec 2007, 18:42
by stujones
Danny Green is not a big fight.
Zsolt Erdei would do FAIRLY well in Germany, thats all.
Dawson at the moment is about as big as Calzaghe vs Kessler was.
------
What do you mean in terms of MASSIVE fight, Spud - financial or legacy based. Sorry, in terms of financial Hopkins is #1 - in terms of legacy it could be argued that Hopkins is #1, at worst he is #3 from those mentioned - Dawson and Erdei being 1 or 2.
In terms of finances I would say Woods is #2 in terms of financial gain for Joe out of the four major belt holders - but a long way down from BHOP.
