Someone needs to put a rulebook for racial talk....it's all a little too complicated...harrygreb wrote:just to clarify, ollie, mixed race is thought to emphasise that the races are MIXED and therefore not standing in their own right. DUAL heritage seeks to emphasise the duality ie that both stand equal or at least in their own right. i suppose its thought that one cant celebrate a mixed cultural heritage but one can celebrate a black or white one (or whatever cultural make up you happen to wear).
I believe its actualy duel heratage, but as long as you don't say any of the ignorant shit (i.e. half case) then most people aren't dick heads about it in my experiance.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:Tut tut Oliver, the correct term is now "Multiracial". OK, thanks for the clarification, at least it makes a bit more sense, but again I maintain there's nothing wrong with the races being MIXED. Of course the constituent ethnicities/heritages stand equal. That should go without saying. "Emphasising the duality" suggests there's something wrong with "only" being half of each.harrygreb wrote:just to clarify, ollie, mixed race is thought to emphasise that the races are MIXED and therefore not standing in their own right. Well, I think that the fact the 'black geezer on the jars' was a hideous paraody of a black man, and was called a 'golly-wog' should explain that.Chambers2 wrote:I agree, its all political correctness gone mad. What was offensive about 'Baa Baa Black Sheep' or that Black geeza on the Marmalade jars or the 'Union Jack', how these could offend anyone is beyond meoliverfennell wrote:What exactly is offensive about the term mixed race. It's a mix of two or more races. Plain. If anybody is offended by it, it suggests it is THEY who have the problem, as if they don't want to admit to it, or are ashamed by one of their components (or heritages).
Is "dual" different to "mixed". Why so? Is "race" not an aspect of "heritage"? Is "race" an offensive word? Who so? Heritage also does not necessarily encompass race. I am mixed "heritage" but single race.
"Mixed race" is a valid description of somebody's appearance.
The only people that you're allowed to take the piss out of because of their natural appearance is Gingers.
I've spoke to a dozen or so people this morning and they all thought it was hilarious (must be a Cannock thing). The humour was very much like Ricky Gervais's 'The Office' but I found that hilarious as well although I watched most of it thru my fingersjamesmcdonnell wrote:I thought it was a load of embarrasing tripe. Even O'Leary seemed to be embarassed by it, and the forced laughter he kept bellowing to try and inject a sense of excitment and hilarity was so obvious.
I would prefer to look at the contents of Heather Mills-Macartney's beadpan for 90 mins than that shite.Chambers2 wrote:Did anyone watch the show last night? It was one of the funniest 90 minutes of telly I've ever seen, Matt Lucas was hilarious. My ribs were aching by the end of it

It was the first show last night, so they showed a pre-recorded interview of each contestant before they went in the house, he came across as cocky and arrogant, but they all did to be fair. Its the way BB always starts the series, they show the extreme sides of the personalities to provoke a reaction from the public, but its not always a fair reflection.E wrote:I would prefer to look at the contents of Heather Mills-Macartney's beadpan for 90 mins than that shite.Chambers2 wrote:Did anyone watch the show last night?
