to be honest Duddy would go through Lockett for a short cut - no hype, no shite talk just honest opinion. I doubt it would last 7 rounds.Captain Hook wrote:No way would Duddy walk through Lockett! Lockett with a points victory......about 7 rounds to 5 if it ever happened.
Duddy is so over hyped, especially by our Irish contingent...

Exactly.....
I've not overhyped Gary Lockett have I. He's a good boxer, lost once and good all-round skills. To say Duddy would walk through him in seven rounds is trash.
Based on what?
Going the distance with an ancient Campas? Or beating up nobodies? Neither of them is worthy of elite class but I'd fancy Lockett over Duddy, and it's nothing to do with my nationality.

Not you personally Cap'n, but certainly a few Welsh board members (JimmyJam etc if my memory serves me) were giving Locket a chance of dethroning Pavlik, should ever a fight between them get made.Captain Hook wrote:Exactly.....

Thats pure fantasy-land stuff from my perspective.
We are all sometimes guilty at going overboard where local talents are concerned.
I once seriously thought Pele Reid could bring the all the gold home to Brum - don't laugh.

This would be a good fight, persoanlly I think Duddy is the more proven and has faced the better opposition, who has Lockett actually beaten??... as for his power I think its overrated, he couldnt even ko Rhodes who has one of the most vulnerble chins in the division, Duddy has a iron chin and I think he;d outlast Lockett...

Are you from the same stock who reckon McCullough, Dunne, Duddy and co are world beaters?!
Duddy is all hype, it'll soon be proven....I'm not saying either is world class, but Lockett is a better boxer.

You not happy enough with the Italian boys?
Fair enough you have your opinion and I have mine - but I doubt anyone else but you thinks that Lockett would take Duddy
Well Mccullough was a world beater in his day, Dunne is a decent fighter too, both have operated in a far higher class of opposition than Lockett, as has Duddy, ...who has Lockett ever beaten??..... and I'm not Irish either by the way!.... 8)Captain Hook wrote:sligobhoy67 wrote:wind yer head in - Duddy just beat Eastman - Locketts last opponent was Kai Kauramaki!!!!!!!! Cork near New York? Whats that got to do with getting a blow job??Captain Hook wrote:PS Is New York anywhere near Cork?
:)
And surely you would rather he got it on with Lockett, rather than Walid Smichet?!
I sure would prefer to see him beat Lockett than Smichet. I reckon Smichet would beat Lockett though!
As for "Duddy will get found out" - found out as what? If you mean he will get beaten - who doesnt!! Lockett?

Interesting one. Sylvester has a good compact style and can box a bit but everytime Asikainen hit him clean he hurt him so i reckon the chin isn't the sturdiest. Brian Peters said at the Duddy-Eastman press conference that Sylvester was a target but he had a mandatory in March. Irish Ropes were saying yesterday that the Duddy fight with Pavlik is being aimed for the end of the year but of course Pavlik may lose to Taylor. Even if he doesn't then he may feel he has bigger fish to fry, but the money aspect will make the Duddy fight.
John himself seems content to pack out the NY halls while waiting for his "long overdue title shot" according to one website report. It seems his popularity, large following and activity has built him up for a title shot while in reality he hasn't really beaten anyone of note to warrant a shot at the divisions number one in my opinion.

You're obviously a big fan?!
And I'm not overrating Lockett, I'm just saying he would beat john Duddy! Anyway, if it ever happens we'll argue about it then... :)

I 100% agree with you Steve, I know and have seen Duddy's limitation but I also feel that he is about to kick it up a gear.steve689 wrote:Interesting one. I would like to see him fight Sylvester for the EBU title first before he goes for a "real" world champion which I dont think he is ready for. Saying that I am sure he is being offered a lot of cashola to face Kelly and I am sure that would be hard to turn down.
I think Duddy KO a chinny Sylvester, but a fight against Asikainen would be much harder and a very close run thing. In short Duddy should try and mop up the two top Europeans first before trying the Pavliks of this world - but I just get the feeling that Irish Ropes underestimate the regard which the European title is held over here.

I wouldn't disagree with that - and who are we to argue - if the man if making a mint packing out the MSG every St. Patrick's Day then great - I don't pay his bills and there are more skilled boxers out there that cant sell a tenth of the tickets Duddy can because they aren't prepared to get hit.Terry D wrote:Personally I feel that Duddy is the new Gatti. Get him to slap the piss out of guys at a certain level then throw him to the slaughter house of world class, preferably in New York on St Paddy's day.
Wait for a while then repeat until he retires.
I keep seeing this thread and think 'John Duddy meets...every shot in the book, with his chin'.
Like I said I am under no illusions about Duddys attributes and his lack of defence - but as you know defence is called "cheating" in Ireland!!!

What the fornicate has "being rabidly Welsh" got to do with supporting Gary Lockett?! Last time I checked he was a good boxer!
We'll see where Duddy's career goes, but I think the Gatti comparisons seem fair. Though I don't think he'll ever win a world title, he fights with his face, as Sligo mentioned: "defence is cheating" etc ....

Even in Pavlik beats Taylor again - which is 50/50 in my book - I think that Duddy has more of a chance of beating Pavlik then Taylor - styles wise. I think Taylor would highlight the flaws with Duddy - not sure Pavlik would to the same degree.Terry D wrote:Yeah, fair dues to the guy. I actually like watching Duddy fight. I'm not rabidly Welsh so have no problems with the idea he'd beat Lockett, would be a tough fight though.
Pavlik or Taylor would muller him senseless but some of the other middles might just outclass him on points.
I'd like to see Macklin-Duddy. I think Macklin has the style and wherewithal to beat Duddy despite Duddy's better resume.
Duddy v Macklin - now that would be a decent scrap - I pity the commentators though - because I can never tell the two apart.
