I read somewhere he was helping someone out with some quality Sparring, hopefully he does come back - but I think the offers have to lead to the title after 1 outing in order to tempt him, just a feeling!

I doubt Mcdermott would tempt RW, Elcock for the belt would, imo.

He is doing well at the moment and has been keeping busy outside the ring with other things - BUT he would love to fight again!

Reading between the lines - it sounds like he is very able and willing to get back in there but where are the fights???

He did say that if nothing comes up for him soon then you may well be hearing about his retirement from the sport.

Yeah, friendly exchange. As you know I'd rather have my intelligence on a two-day trip to Skegness than a lesser intelligence on a round the world trip (that is not a dig at anyone either). Plus I'm working class, we don't go travelling, we go on our holidays.

Of course there are a great number of "travellers" who are exactly as you describe, but you seem to think everybody with a round-the-world ticket is like that. I have met some of the most interesting people and had some of the most amazing experiences in my life from my travels, but they weren't in an Amsterdam bar, a Sydney hostel or at a full moon party. Like attracts like, and all that.

Nice story about the Nigerians; sure I saw an advert like that once. But you do underplay the significance of BEING THERE regarding travel. You might think seeing the pyramids or Angkor Wat or Macchu Picchu doesn't give you much more than seeing it on TV or reading about it, but it DOES! Think of it this way - as a boxing fan, would you say going to watch a fight live is the same as watching it on TV or reading about it?

I know travelling is not for everybody, but I do think it's a shame somebody as erudite as you is closed to the possibility. You should try it one day. Ricky Hatton v Lakva Sim in Ulan Bataar - you with me?

Well, he is with Matchroom -but lets be honest - Matchroom are not that bothered about boxing anymore.

I always keep an eye out to see if he is appearing on a Matchroom bill when it is announced - but there never apears to be a spot for him?

I recall a conversation I had wth him when the Eastman fight was announed and he said that TV and all the cut backs had a direct effect on the amount of fights and the money on offer etc.

Remember SKY refused to show any IBO fights etc etc.

RW also has more to his life than Boxing.

Having said that - I would like to see him ad the british title to his list of achievements.

Of course he would! At the end of the day Elcock will fight anyone, as was proven when he went over to Switzerland to fight the beast that is Arthur Abraham.

Wayne reads this board and is aware that he has a list of challengers wanting to take his belt off him. He has mentioned Williams before but Richard would have to have a fight before the board would sanction that contest.

One of the reasons Rob Norton didn’t fight for the vacant British title when Swaby and Keeton boxed for it was because he hadn’t boxed in over 12 months.

Purse bids for Elcock and McDermott have been called by the BBBofC, by the way. Great news.
