hatton will give it a few years, when witter is kina past his best.
Didn't Hatton say he was going to retire soon though? And also, I reckon Hatton will be shot in a few years.

Hatton may be younger but he has had tougher fights, doesn't live the life and is already showing a major dent in his once world famous workrate.

Witter is aging far better, if they don't fight now they never will.

give me a break.
Exactly mate its all nonsense he will fight mayweather but wont fight witter lol.

I think its a great reason from hatton why give witter a huge payday? this giving hatton lions share is nonsense witter holding one of the belts is irrelavent hatton is the champ at light welter hes the man to beat, hes only been beaten by the best pound for pound fighter in his backyard.

just out of intrest what is witter earning just now a fight? and what would he earn fighting hatton??
You cant legitimately claim to be the best unless you prove it and Hatton hasnt done so - You may think he is, and he may think he is, but where is the proof he is - Witter has the main belt so he is the champ while Hatton is only the fans champ - Witter is the man to beat for lots of reasons.
Wayward, surely you know this is a very weak argument. Was Beyer the champ at 168 in 2004/2005 because he held the WBC title? Is David Diaz the champ at 135 because he holds the WBC title? We all know the answer.
You say you can't claim to be the best unless you prove it. Before Witter picked up the WBC, his last fight was against Lynes, and it wasn't a good night at the office. Fair to say, I'd suggest, that at that point, he hadn't proved himself at world level.
Then he fights Corley for the vacant title. Where was Corley rated in the division when he came into this fight? And look what he's done since. Now tell me where Tszyu was rated when he fought Hatton. And yet it seems people find it incredibly easier to label zoo as being shot more than Corley.
Witter's next fight was against Morua. Now this was a keep busy fight. Nothing new. Not the worst. Not the best. Doesn't propel him to #1 in my book. Anyone else got him as #1 yet?
Then he beats his mandatory in Vivian Harris. By KO no less. Great. Very good performance, and undoubtedly the best win of his career. But does it get him the #1 spot? Whoever wants to disagree by all means, but I doubt Harris was in many people's top 5 at the time. What if Hatton had fought Harris last June isntead of JLC? He would have been crucified. Why? I think it's because people's expectations of Hatton are higher, because they rate Hatton higher.

Don't for a moment think that I don't want to see Hatton/Witter. And absolutely I can't argue with the fact that Hatton seems to be ducking Witter. And boxbet has it right that the reason he's ducking Witter is because stylistically it's not a good fight for Hatton, who can take a defeat to PBF as the p4p #1, plus the money he got for it and kudos he'd have got for the win; against Witter, he's gaining far less financially and is risking a lot more ie. losing his #1 UK spot, far less his #1 world spot.

So that's that why I reckon he wants to avoid the fight. Not arguing with that. What I personally don't like is the fact that built in to this we seem to be getting a lot jibes at Hatton's choice of opponents and a disregard for what he has achieved (which I actually think is more than Witter.) And then all this stuff about Witter giving Hatton the larger share of the purse. Hook and bigped are absolutely right. Hatton's the one that would be generating the money for the fight. Financially, Hatton is Witter's faberge egg. Even a unification with Torres or Rees wouldn't put him near the scale of pay. Haton's the one with the name in the US.

Bottom line is, Witter needs Hatton in order to move forward. His purses are small, and his name stateside is too. We all know Hatton is squirming, and Witter is taking advantage of it. It workd both ways.

Great post, Jomo.

While I am among the more vocal of the number calling for Hatton to fight Witter, I wouldn't for one minute argue Witter's got a better CV than Hatton. Tszyu and even Castillo are leagues above any of Witter's wins.

Very good post and I fully appreciate Hatton holds the cards, while Witter holds the title - Hatton does have the better record having fought better opposition than Witter but that still doesnt settle who is best and who can beat who - OK so Hatton doesnt fancy it because of the risk, yet he claims he fears nobody - His excuses just cover up the real reasons for rejecting Witter - I am no Witter fan, never have been, so I am not wanting to see Witter beat Hatton - Quite the contrary I want to see Ricky prove to the world he really is the best LWW. Hatton is Not number 1.

Witter has Kotelnik - Lynes - Corley - Harris - Ndou.

So what Hatton beat KT and castillo - BOTH SHOT!!!!

WITTER is the man at 140 and Hatton knows it.

Witter and Harris were 1 and 2 in the Rings Top10 so technically you could claim Witter is Ring/Lineal Champ as Hatton vacated the division. Ofcourse thats a game of Devil's advocate. Witter and Hatton are 1 and 2 respectfully at 140. There's only 1 way to find the best 140lber in the world and thats to see them fight.

If neither fight then we don't know who the best Light-Welterweight in the world is, simple as that. Its like Roy Jones-Michauski, Jack Dempsey-Harry Wills and other 1 and 2s that never met.

Many argued Ali wasn't champ when he came back against Larry Holmes

That aside does anyone rate Erdei as no1 LHW in the world (bare in mind Garay beat him twice and was robbed twice). Does anyone consider Casamoya the no1 lightweight? Hes linear but arguably lost his last fight against someone whos not top5 (I was when of the few who had Cassa winning). Did anyone consider Briggs the no1 HW after a lucky decision against Foreman?

As you can see the Linear championship is overrated if the best don't get to fight for it

Hatton has shown himself to be a prat with these comments... and dare I say it, yellow too... any fighter worth his salt would want to fight Witter and shut him up, just like Mayweather decided to shut up Hatton...
