Was it ITV or BBC1 who built Froch up in his earlier days? Carl and Haye would make for good viewing figures. Only the true fan could be bothered with FW's previous HW 'action'.

The real calss of 2002 were part of the BBCs coverage they took him to hte point of getting a world shot and dropped him, just as with haye was a great shame and similar with Woods who won on there last boxing show.

That's right Josh: I thought I remembered Inverdale, but associated Bunce more with Audley. Carl was on one of their fight contracts. Yeah - losing him and Haye was a massive disappointment.

TV stations need to learn we care more about competitive match-ups than the one big name.

Problem is that they want one off high raitings not to build the sport however I think if this works out they may see the merits of the latter. Fcuk it has to be more interesting than prime time darts

True. It's because they're using the same daft ratings model they'd use for an American import show or something. I keep expecting one of the major channels to bring The Wire over, before ditching it due to 'poor' ratings. You have to blame the public of course; there's a problem when Big Brother and the soaps pull in 6m on a quiet night.

ad not just centred round one fighter either - more prospects, more ressurection men, more game-as-fcuk africans, less dodgy imports and fall-over jobs please

Talking of Africa, you get an occasional good fight on Channel 4 and Five during the early hours. I think it's Five who cover a lot of South African bills at the minute. C4's KOTV has American fights from about two weeks previous.

You're right that there's quality to be had away from the main stars. I'm sure many of us have been to cards worthy of ITV2 coverage.

yeah, fiveUS's boxing is good as well.

I think there are enough good fights to show, even if they regularly do a sunday afternoon thing, its about getting a bit of a base and then big events every couple of months. I recon they could get it cheep as chips if they deal with Hennessy, Fight Acadamy and Frank Moloney etc cos they are always in the need of money and want to raise there fighters profiles (and there own). If those guys do one show a week you already have almost full event sceduals then possibly a ESPN card or something the other networks don't pick up from the USA.

Then along popped Audley and they spunked all their boxing budget on the dud as he wrestled binmen.

The beeb got burned so badly they quit showing boxing on Tv.

Audley was befor froch, remember he turned pro (and compeeted in the ams in 2002)

and show more of the background - with all the emphasis on us all getting fit, how about a show of boxers getting into shape?

The BBC did the Froch fights, then dropped him. A friend of mine asked if he was still fighting not having Sky Sports he hadnt seen him in ages. ITV seem to think, thankfully, big fights are good for viewing figures and they want another big name as well as Amir Khan. Carl Froch must do well and if he does I think ITV will take more of his fights. Potential world champions are good business for ITV.

but also (and sadly only in highlights) Thompson v Rothman

Froch v monaghan had a bit of needle


this is gr8 news for boxing fans ...i for one will not pay or stay up til the small hours to watch calzaghe or woods
