Funnily enough just finished reading it today. Charlie Magri was fighting just before I got interested in boxing so whilst I knew of him it was nice to read about his career. Thought it was quite interesting and an easy read.

Good read – an excellent story to be told – winning the British title 42 days after turning pro. Some achievement that. Is that a record?
Also some entertaining accounts of the fights themselves.

As Charlie’s story is pretty new to me, (I knew he was a world champ but that’s all), one thing that slightly detracted from my enjoyment was that sometimes the chapter titles gave away what the outcome of the fights was going to be.

I thought the latter pages were excellent with the account of life after boxing. It really added a personal touch to the story for me.

By the way James, did Charlie really say ‘in those days you couldn’t check the records of fighters like you can these days on boxrec.com’?

Of course there is always a fair bit of licence. I did however make Charlie aware of boxrec.com, we printed out Laciar's record for him and Charlie was amazed by just how many fights the guy had.

The last chapters of the book were the ones I was really able to get my teeth into and enjoyed most.
