I got genuinely confused as the release made it look like Witter had turned down 100K to chase American money. It says a lot about the sport when a press release tells us fook all until a member of the promotional team posts the details of a private telephone conversation to flesh things out.
Not sure why a lawyer would be negotiating fights, I thought they check contracts and what-not.
Witter looks the innocent party if the gossip post, rather than the promotional one, is to beleived.
Either way they should get the guy a bout in the UK and pay him 100K for it.

Is Ricky Hatton not allowed a comeback fight ???
If Steve Forbes is good enough for Oscar surely Lucano is for Ricky.
Everybody has seemed to forget that Junior Witter had a soft touch as his first defence Arturo Morua 24-7 -1 wow that fight raised the roof.
Then Vivian Harris who Had beaten Lucano on pts now if Lucano is that bad an opponent for a comeback then doesnt Juniors win over Harris lose its shine as Harris was equally shot.
Rickys first defence Carlos Maussa the man who beat a fresher Harris in the same time as Junior.
Other popular fighters from Britian in the past have after losing a world title fight had Mediocre comeback fights
Barry Mcguigans comeback opponent after losing to steve cruz was Nicky Perez 57-15-1.won ko4 Barry did not comeback against Azumah Nelson and his profile never suffered because of it and that was after Azumah calling Barry out on live tv saying he crys or fights like a woman something along them lines.
Frank Brunos was James tillis 36-11-1 after Witherspoon won ko5 Defeat after Tyson 1 it was John Emmen 16 -2 won ko1.
Nigel Benn after Micheal Watson defeat beat jorge Amparo 7-9-1 won pts Then after Eubank Loss it was Robbie Simms 32-8-2 wko7.
LLoyd Honeyghan after losing To jorge Vaca then avanged his loss to Vaca in next fight but when he lost his title to Marlon Starling his comeback opponent was Delfino Marin 11-3 won pts.
By the way Juniors comeback opponent after losing to Zab was Steve Conway 20-3 Wko 4
So why are people so Keen for Ricky to buck the trend Barry , Frank , Nigel and Lloyd were household names and it was acknowledged that the comeback fight was a confidence booster.
If it was the other way round do you think for one minute Junior after getting Knocked out would fight Ricky in his comeback fight like hell he would.
Instead of Mick Hennessey Junior Witter and John Ingle harping on , Why dont they Spend some of that £400 Grand that they had to put on Thaxton V Khan and spend it on Junior and get a name from America , Mexico over here and put it on ITV that would do Junior more good for Profile and activity then silly he said she said stories.

It wouldn't be a problem, if fans thought he'd actually take on Witter next, but we know he wont - unless he has a change of
heart, that is.
He's handpicked his opponents all his career, every one of them. The boxing fans he used to have are fed up with the endless warmups and have finally lost patience with him. It's pretty much just the clueless football fans who'll be cheering him on now.
I used to be a big fan, not anymore - which means f**k all to Hatton, I'm aware of that.
I said at the time, there was no serious offer to Witter. Hatton would no more take a risk than the military would with Harry in the "front line".

Thank you Wellington, Box Office and TheGuru for clearing that up, it's much appreciated
The main points as I see them:
1) There was no official career high purse offer made to Witter (just a drunken comment from their simple lawyer which Ray Hatton disproportinately embellished on), so how could he turn Witter down as Ray Hatton suggested?
2) Hattons fight for May 24th hasn't been signed and the venue hasn't been confirmed.
3) Team Hatton have said Witter is only worth 100k for the fight, which is a very low offer IMO and Junior has still agreed to the fight for that amount on May 24th, leaving Hatton to pick up a massive pay cheque from the fight. Will they now accept Witter?
4) Hatton-Witter is one of the fights that HBO want.
5) Witter signed to fight Hatton a while ago and Hatton wouldn't sign
Some people have been saying that both sides come out of this looking foolish, that's not what it looks like from where I'm sitting!! Witter and Mick H look to be bending over backwards to get this fight on and Team Hatton are doing everything possible not to fight him, even lying through their teeth. Witter accepting 100K to fight in the BIGGEST All-British clash ever proves Witters not just chasing the $$$$'s he's in it for the glory, are Team Hatton? (Witter said he'd except 150K over 5 years ago, even with inflation his demands have dropped by a third!!!)
Q: Why isn't this fight on already?
A: It's SOLELY Team Hattons fault
Team Hatton have personified everything that is wrong with boxing!! IMO

Carl Froch will win his next fight, then we get all this crap over again with MH calling out Calzaghe, while Froch loses all his opportunities.
If I was under the MH banner I'd be on the phone to another promoter now before I wasted anymore of my career. Even if you don't want to work with Warren, there is still Hearn and Maloney who will get you more opportunities than MH ever could.
I had high hopes for MH, but he has lost me, I can't help but feel that he is acting like a spoilt brat with all this he said she said bollox.
Thaxton is fighting Romanov for the European title which is a great fight for JT. Froch is fighting another unbeaten prospect Dennis Inkin in an eliminator bout for a World title in Carls hometown. Neither look to be doing too bad in my eyes.
It's hardly Micks fault that Ricky and Demetrius are chicken-shit and won't fight Junior

How Many of them 18 thousand fans that used to pack the MEN Arena were Boxing Fans i reckon a third the others used to tag along because it was an event.
It was that third that only turned up to watch Brodie v Chi a Great Genuine World title there was not many normal paying Joe Bloggs customers as it was not an Event.
Just like Naz , Eubank and much Like Amir Khan now as long as there is a belt on the line with the words world title normal paying Public will turn out as it is an event as SN are the best at promoting the Event although Eubank was with Matchroom.
Ricky Hattons comeback fight will be an Event and people going to that will know that its a chance to see Ricky Box possibly for the last time in Manchester ,an opportunity for people who could not afford to go overseas to see him box , he is boxing at MCFC .
The time this event gets nearer and nearer with the Tv Interest people in Manchester will be going whether they are Boxing Fans or not.
Its a chance for everyone who used to go to the MEN areana to watch him fight again and support one of their own fellow Mancunians whilst having a good night out.

"WE LOVE YOU RICKY!!!! WE DON'T CARE IF YOU FIGHT A BINMAN, JUST AS LONG AS YOU WIN!!!"
I'd be happy for Ricky to have a warm-up bout if Witter was definately going to be his next fight, but Team Hatton are chasing Malignaggi, Pacman and anybody else that isn't Junior Witter rather than the top man in what is supposed to be Rickys division.
Team Hattons stance is undefendable

Well ????????
The difference is
Junior Witter the
British
Commonwealth
European
World
Champion
Would have mashed down Hatton on his way winning all those belts
Witter knows the historical value of the path he has taken ( BCEW Titles)
and that when all is said and done - he would have had to prove his worth on his own door step in order to be a TRUE CHAMPION.

Witter's been trying to get this fight on for about 7 years and he's willing to accept 100K for this massive clash which leaves Hatton with the millions. It's safe to say that Witter would fight Ricky anytime, anywhere where as Ricky won't fight Witter at anytime, anywhere.
As Junior has said 'This is personal!"

Get knocked out again and not only is my career dead and buried, but I'm forever seen as a fraudster.
If he admitted it, it wouldn't be so bad.
Spot on. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and Hatton has been great for the sport (to a degree) but he's not quite as good as we all thought. Would Hatton have beaten a prime Tszyu? I very much doubt it. Not trying to take anything away from him, but he didn't even land one clean shot on Mayweather in 10 rounds. Gatti landed more clean shots in the 6 rounds! Castillo had better success against a lighter more elusive Mayweather at 135.
When all is said and done, unless Hatton outweighs someone by 10lbs+ then he struggles to be effective.
Don't get me wrong Hatton is good, just not the P4P fighter everybody thought he was. Since his career hit the top level other than the Tszyu fight he hasn't really looked that good. Even against Maussa which is probably his most impressive win since beating Tszyu he looked like shit throughout.

Witter may not be the draw or command more money than Hatton, but £100,000 is fcuking scandalous. In my view, that is not a serious offer, not an offer that shows willingness or committment to a potential Hatton-Witter bout.
Credit to Junior for still showing his desire for the fight by saying he'll fight for peanuts.

Hatton’s camp never ever made an offer for Witter to fight Hatton!
Witter’s promoter called the Hatton lawyer on Saturday Feb 16th,
Only to find him pissed out of his brains in a Las Vegas bar at five thirty in the morning. Apparently Mick offered to meet Ray Hatton and the lawyer the following week, the lawyer went on to say "I am telling you now if we meet Ricky holds all the Aces and if they ever do fight the most Witter would be offered was 100,000 pounds. Because nobody gives a eff about Witter and he brings eff all to the table".
There was never a specific date or a specific offer, just a drunken comment about what would be offered if they ever did meet.
Mick told him not to disrespect a great fighter like Witter, who has done things the hard way and has never turned down a challenge from anyone. Needless to say the conversation went downhill from there.
Then the Hatton’s and that lawyer chose to take that drunken pissed up bar room conversation and flog it to the media and public as if they made a legitimate offer and it was refused by Witter’s camp.
What a load of absolute shite!!!
To make a genuine offer you put it in writing and send it through by Fax, it’s that simple!
If you could hear the rumors going around the U.S. at the moment about what happened that particular night and the following afternoon with this big-mouthed lawyer,
You would realize how bullshit this whole situation really is and would agree this guy is a fool of the highest order. I am sure the story will come out soon enough.
So basically Witter has just reacted to the bullshit they put out in the press, because he knows there was nothing definite about the Lazcano fight. Witter will defiantly take the fight on May 24th at that price, because he is a proper fighter and is not a greedy whore.
That Solicitor Is disgusting If thats true.

If we're working it out like that, Hatton is going to be facing a guy who was beaten by a guy that Witter clobbered in 7 rounds. Doesn't sound so great does it?

I got this quote about Hatton from ESB Boxing Forum - an Americans view!
True Hatton was/is human garbage, a talentless, little English piece of genettic rif raf. But Calzaghe is a good fighter with a terrible resume who has never really been hyped on a scale as Hatton.
Joe is a Welsh/Italian so he didn't inspire the animalistic tribalism among the English as Hatton did.
That is funny!

I call it the "Thaxton Syndrome". Offer to fight your domestic nemesis for free, then turn down an offer.
I guess you no fu*k all about the Thaxton offer. Thaxton and Khan were mandatory for each other’s belt. They gave Thaxton an offer just before the purse bid. Which Thaxton declined because Hennessey were confident of winning the bid or at least get more money for Thaxton. Thaxton said no thanks, lets see what happens at the purse bid. Knowing if Khan refused to go to the purse bid he would be stripped of his belt.
Khan refused to go to purse bid claming that Thaxton turned down an offer. Thaxton is seeking legal action against the bbbofc because Khan was never stripped.
Why would you take a crappy offer knowing that in a week’s time there would be a purse bid where you would get more money?
allegedly knew the answer that’s why he did it. To try and cover the fact that Khan is ducking.
