that's a great point Eraserhead.........you know even before Hunter got involved in any of this British title lark he was in an absolute riproaring barnstormer TM of a fight with Frankie de Milo a tough, fit black lad from Sweden (though not originally I suspect!) for the WBF "world" title it took place not in the borough hall but at an ice rink nearby. That one doesn't even get a mention so much thesedays.
Dodgy title but there was nothing dodgy about the fight.

as for Rhino I understand your point you could say Hunter chose to stay down, the footage supports what you say (I have not needed to look at the link thanks I've seen it many a time)......but I just can't believe Hunter quit. Once you start going down that line the whole universe starts turning on it's head. As far as I'm concerned he was scrambled moments earlier but a powerful right hand that came like a bolt from the blue. The fact Hunter never even knew it was coming doubled the impact.

It was a world class finish by a world class fighter. No disgrace....Michael's right, he's basically a skinny kid off a rough estate who overachieved, not under, and can now look back on the ride with real pride.

Because its like saying, Hatton coming back against Eamon Magee and winning, but why didnt Hatton get up and win against Mayweather, may be a shitty comparison but Molitor is light years ahead of Pickering, he maybe should of got up but i think someone knows when they are beat.

He is right he did over achive, no one in this world especially from our town thought he would be challenging for a WORLD TITLE, british yes but not world no way.

Enjoy your retirement.

the level you reach is the level you win, not the level you challenge for.

david walker was not european champion

danny williams was not world champion

michael hunter was not world champion

Razor's right - the Pickering knockdowns (whilst they looked shocking at the time if you were there live) in hindsight on the TV you could argue they were flash knockdowns.......it was a case of Michael was feeling his way into the fight and Pickering saw a gap and exposed it twice, beautifully.
After Michael got his act together and the old chin warmed up Pickering was not allowed to have the same success.

Now Molitor didn't catch Mike with no flash knockdown, it was a huge right delivered flush on the button in round 4 or 5 with no warning shots. He might as well have got kicked in the face by a horse.

As for that comment "the level you win is the level you reach" I think you're being unduly harsh for some reason. Michael earned the right to bring the world's best to his own tiny borough hall - you couldn't make it up. He had made 2 very tough defences of the European (3 in total) - so to me that states he was AT LEAST European level, not JUST European level as you state.

It says on the ticket WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING - Michael reached that level. Simple as.

errr..it says on tickets world championship boxing for a WBF fight. im not anti hunter as you seem to be eluding too, but im a realist and a boxing fan, MH did well, he probably over achieved, but if you think he was world class you are seriously deluded, the gulf between himself and molitar was/is huge.

yeah you can say that now Hunter's been whupped by him. My take on this without getting into handbags with you is that Molitor happens to be very good World Class. Yes, better than Hunter without a doubt. But he's rattling off wins now. I think he's one of the best P4P in the world.
However I think there are other world level fighters that Hunter would've had more success against.
I'd also say you don't have to be a World Champion to be world class, you can be nearly as good as those guys but just never quite capture the belt.

im also confused where you get the impression that hunters european defences were very tough, look at the records of the fellas that he fought, their best showing between them is a 6 round points win over a faded johnny armour !!!!
