Witter-Timothy Bradley May 10
Yes Cap'n Hook - Maussa, Lazcano, Urango, Collazo, Magee and a faded Castillo are SO superior to:
Bradley, Morua, Harris, Corley (would he have dropped/hurt Hatton like Magee/Collazo did, hmm?), Kotelnik, Bergman, Lynes, Ndou.
I actually like the comparison. Just look at the Euro level opposition. Lynes would win a EBU belt; Magee didn't, did he? At world class, Witter scraped by vs Kotelnik; Hatton appeared lucky in some quarters vs Collazo, etc
Hatton has overachieved, Witter has been allowed to wither. Yet still Witter looks the more cmfortably "world class" of the 2 fighters.
Of course, you can say "you can't compare the two" because Hatton fought Tszyu and Mayweather. However, if Hatton would fight Witter, then Witter would have a big name on his ledger, no?

I strongly disagree with some of the points made on opponents. Tszyu was arguably past his prime, but still a top 5 p4p fighter when he fought Ricky. Maussa was the third best LW when Hatton fought him. Maussa lost to Morua 2 years later at 147. And remember Maussa KTFO Harris in the same distance as Witter did two years later.
Corley was a gate keeper at 140 when Witter fought him. Castillo was past his best by about 2 years. Magee, when Hatton fought him, was about the same as when Kotelnik fought Witter (and the latter decision was closer).
I'm all for Hatton fighting Witter, and I'm disappointed at the fact that he hasn't and looks like he won't, but no way in a month of Sunday's has Junior fought better cumulative opposition, yet.

Dont give me any of that "nobody wants to fight him" bollocks and only Timothy 'who the fcuk is he' Bradley is the best willing....... "ooo but he's a yank and its in America"....... piss off, he's an unkown and Witter is 30 fcuking 5 years old fighting, at best, twice a year!
Instead of chasing Hatton, he should consider following his lead!
However, Jr has beaten Jan Bergman (Tszyu challenger), Kotelnik (debatable), Ndou (struggle, but JW scored knockdowns), Corley, Harris. Even Lynes is an opponent that looks better. Bradley looks like a decent opponent for a guy who can't get anyone to face him.
He's faced about the same # of good fighters as Hatton. When you think Hatton has always had the pick of everything, that reflects badly on Ricky IMO. When Hatton was relatively wasting his career on the WBU, Witter was being ducked despite holding Commonwealth & Euro belts.
It looks like agood night for boxing. Hennessy is putting on a great domestic card and a good fight in America.
Witter is being ducked blah blah blah, then he gets Bradley and that's ok?
Timothy fornicating Bradley?
And how can you compare?
Suddely Tszyu is over the hill and Castillo is a faded champ? Suddenly Morua, Lynes and Corley are world beaters? I like Lynes but give me a break, he's not world class.
When will Hatton get his props for beating Kostya Tszyu, rather than this constant stream of bile - "He was faded/over the hill/past it"
Bullshit.
What is your obsession with Magee? He was a strong fighter, Hatton beat him pretty convincingly after being knocked down in the first.
Mayweather on his bloody own is a class above all of Witter's last five opponents put together for goodness sake.
Hatton lost to him, but he did face him, so why is he getting slated - AGAIN
Too much Hatton bashing on here - AGAIN.
Just keep it to Witter and Bradley.....and Bradley is a B or C level opponent at best. You think Bradley is a "decent opponent" ??

Does Hatton have the drawing power to choose who he fights and when he fights them?Captain Hook wrote:PS Like Emerson says, a Hatton v Witter match-up would be great, but it's not happening now is it.
We'd all love to see it, of course we would.
But is Hatton going to get slated for fightin Lazcano while Witter fights Bradley, and then every opponent until he retires, unless it's Junior?
Ridiculous
Does Junior have to take what opportunities are afforded to him?
To be fair, Junior's hardly been innocent when it comes to the public. His Emmanuel Augustus impression against Zab Judah was his own fault and his public calling out of Hatton (whilst Junior was fighting domestic level opposition) didn't do him any favours.Chambers2 wrote:Does Hatton have the drawing power to choose who he fights and when he fights them?Captain Hook wrote:PS Like Emerson says, a Hatton v Witter match-up would be great, but it's not happening now is it.

Maybe that could be levelled at his Promoter(s) instead. Either way, it sure as sht ain't Ricky's fault bud.
To be a big fish, Junior needs another belt IMO to garner some real respect from the US. Frankly, Timothy Bradley isn't even in Junior's class, but a mandatory is a mandatory.
tbh I don't mind Hatton fighting Lazcano in his comeback fight (although PPV is taking the Michael), what grips my shit is the fact that he won't fight Junior Witter in his next 3 fightsEmerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:To be fair, Junior's hardly been innocent when it comes to the public. I have a feeling he might fight Junior after Malinaggi. Pacman v Marquez 3 will keep Manny busy now.Chambers2 wrote:tbh I don't mind Hatton fighting Lazcano in his comeback fight (although PPV is taking the Michael), what grips my shit is the fact that he won't fight Junior Witter in his next 3 fightsEmerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:To be fair, Junior's hardly been innocent when it comes to the public. Wait until the undercard is announced and you might change your mind about whether it's value for money.

Hatton was name-checking Tszyu and Judah in 2000-2001.
Witter had already fought one of them by then.
And it took Hatton 4-5 years to step up from Oliveria, Tackie and Phillips to that level.
Witter took it on short notice, its all about circumstances, Hatton has been well promoted.
Witter hasn't. He's been well managed in securing WBC belt but they've failed to make people interested in him.
And Junior has his role to play in that, he stank at just the wrong times.
Judah, the BelgianDutch fella, Lynes....

Actually Emerson, Morua beat Maussa 11months prior to Ricky Hatton fighting him at 140. Therefore Maussa was never top3 at the weight and Morua is clearly better than him. And Maussa is now a big scalp where as Morua is a bum? Thats the general concensus but its clearly wrong. maussa would lose his next 2 fights after Hatton to journeymen.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote: . Witter didnt choose him he has to fight him or lose his belt, simple as Witter cant avoid mandosCaptain Hook wrote:We can grasp the concept pal, we're not thick....Mandatory or not, nobody has heard of him.nickd wrote:Bradley is Witter's mandatory, some of you just can't seem to grasp that concept....
And this is what irks me about the whole thing. Junior is labelled as boring etc yet Hatton's hit and hold dross since fighting Tszyu seems to go relatively unpunished?Autobarn wrote:Hatton has stank a few times as well...
He was still calling himself 'Mr Excitement' after the joke that was the Urango fight.
Well done to whoever said that Hatton was an overachiever, he has done extremely well to beat Tyszu and Castillo and even better fooling everyone that he is a pound for pound figther.
No disrespect to Hatton as he is a nice fella and has done the sport well.
Absoulutely. And I wouldn't agree Harris got KTFO. It appeared to be exhaustion more than a brutal knockout which KTFO would imply.search wrote:maussa struck the lottery against Harris who weighted in at 134 pounds
If Harris would have destroyed Maussa I very much doubt Ricky would have unifed the titles with him.
Urango got a gift against Rabbah and was a relative novice, yet he was more than suitable for Ricky? What has he done since?
How many times must Ricky Win and vacate the IBF 140 belt?

to be fair Dave, promoters can only do so much. If it was all down to promoters, then Warren would have had countless Hamed's and Hatton's. Benn's and Eubanks on his books. Such fighters that capture the public imagination are rare, and Witter has never been one of them.DavidPayne wrote:Hatton was name-checking Tszyu and Judah in 2000-2001.

Apologies, I thought Maussa lost to Morua on the Mosley v Cotto undercard at 147.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:Actually Emerson, Morua beat Maussa 11months prior to Ricky Hatton fighting him at 140. No chance Maussa got lucky, if you watch the fight Harris floored Maussa with the first shot he threw and proceeded to punch himself out. Harris at his best has the potential to beat the best in the division and beat some good names Maussa does not and got lucky against a Harris who was at his worstEmerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:Apologies, I thought Maussa lost to Morua on the Mosley v Cotto undercard at 147.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:Actually Emerson, Morua beat Maussa 11months prior to Ricky Hatton fighting him at 140. Yes, Harris clearly punched himself out. Maussa was just a one hit wonder. Even so, he was able to land cleanly on Hatton enough to suggest that Ricky was making hard work of it.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:No chance Maussa got lucky, if you watch the fight Harris floored Maussa with the first shot he threw and proceeded to punch himself out. Here's the fight. Maussa was battering Harris in round 1, Andy, so he wasn't punched out. I still think Maussa should've been DQ'd though.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:No chance Maussa got lucky, if you watch the fight Harris floored Maussa with the first shot he threw and proceeded to punch himself out.
