Lockett has done enough to earn himself a 'world tile' shot.

Smith has at least attempt to step up in class, its not as if he's just startin out, he has had all his 'ring experience' fights. Like i said before he has talked about world title shots??? Needs to look domestic first.

IMO that is what is wrong with British Boxing, too many fighters & their promoters will stay away from their closest domestic rivals until they can fashion some sort of World Title fight out of it (in the case of Hatton v Witter titles mean nothin & Hatton simply will not fight his closest rival!!). Anyway there are great fights out there & the paying public should not be deprived of them fights.

Spud if as you say he would like to make money & get out, why not fight, Macklin, Barker, Ajetovic makin good money in the process cos the public would like to see them fights ............ & if he comes through them he will have earned the right to EARN some money.

Like look at Macklin, you have to give him credit for fighting Moore, great fight & the lad has only earned credit for his actions.

I don't think we will really know how good Smith is until he fights someone a bit special, so far I think he is similar to Anthony Farnell. Farnell didn't have that much natural talent, but he worked bloody hard once he was in the ring and would never back down.

I also wonder what Smith's lifestyle is like outside of the ring. I've seen him in between fights and he looked quite chubby and out of condition. But then again you can say the same about Hatton and he hasn't done too badly.

I would say our best prospect at middleweight is Darren Barker.

Smith will probably get a British shot and at best a Euro shot, but he's not good enough to be a champ.

Solid, but predictable.

He comes across as pretty arrogant seeing as he's done f*** all in the sport, bar the Contender sham.

When making such statements, its a REALLY good idea to clarify the meaning of "World" title...!

I could see Smith maybe getting one of the "nothing" belts or a European title - there seems something about him to me. I just can't see him making the final leap in a reasonably talented division.

Sure, I mean one of the main 4.

I think u all are being quite harsh he still is unbeaten,
he has beat guys with expierience(john reid), bangers(cello renda),prospects(john banks) etc has looked good (just i feel loves to get involved in a scrap which most of us do thats why we box) but i dont think has shown his capabalities yet,
i honestly do think he has plenty more to show but has already shown glimpses of handspeed, power, great combinations etc even getting the attention of expierienced coaches who see talent on a daily basis i feel soon he will begin to show his full potential.

Its a shame he didn't advance in the Contender, he would have faced Bika or Codrington.
So no one can say he isn't willing to step up, as he was eliminated by default on the lowest points

I think he will def win a British title at some point, maybe he's finding it hard to train well and get his self going when he's fighting a low level of fighter, he need's to step up now though.

thanks hook for the compliment makes me feel like i have impressed and
makes all the hard work worthwhile when being regarded so highley .
I honestly dont think i am in the same class, i do think he is a gifted fighter and will prove it.
I dont know the guy personally so not a biased opionion but have always enjoyed watching him box and see potential in the guy.

I haven't seen Alex fight, but Terry and Wales hold him in high regard. I wanted to grab a look at him. Think Terry came up with his nickname.

From what i've seen of Alex , he looks strong and fit, throws alot of punches, might like a tear up a bit to much. Maybe needs to settle down a bit and control the fight more.

At 29 i suppose he can't afford to hang around to long , and will be looking to step up the level of competition this year.

I do think paul will go places yes he also loves the odd tear up too but that is a fighters instinct, as we seen the other weekend it doesnt always work to an advantage like in cassamayor and kastidis when michael came out blazing and got caught but it makes a fight more exciting to watch for us fans

Alex Matvienko is a nice bloke - good fighter. Very realistic about his career and works hard. I've no doubt embarrassed him now as he is so down to earth!

Loves a good tear-up, in great shape and always good value for money.

Could certainly mix it with Smith from what I'v seen, and I've been lucky enough to be at ringside for a few of his fights, one against the impressive Marshall. That was a disputed draw. He won the rematch.

Smith is solid, would not embarrass himself at Euro level but is no great shakes IMO. Maybe McGirt can turn him into more of a stylist, a la Gatti.....then again as soon as he moved up in class he was exposed - every time
